  1. JONATA 2015 "LA SANGRE DE JONATA" SYRAH SANTA YNEZ VALLEY

    Item #: i_232280
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Jeb Dunnuck: 100 Points
Started by Charlie Banks and Stan Kroenke of Screaming Eagle, the Jonata wines epitomize what is possible when one truly has the dedication to producing only the best! The vineyards are located near other notable vineyards such as Larner and Stolpman in Ballard Canyon. This limestone rich valley runs north/south, bisecting the Santa Rita Hills AVA from the rest of the Santa Ynez Valley. Matt Dees has been the talented winemaker behind the wines since their debut vintage in 2004, teaming up these days with Sonoma County native Drew Pickering as his assistant winemaker. This is one of the most stunning Syrahs we have had in quite a while out of California! It is a bold Syrah that is packed with powder, yet still retains elegance and charm...but it won't last long!

JEB DUNNUCK 100 POINTS - "Even better than the crazy-good 2007, the 2015 La Sangre de Jonata is sheer perfection in a glass and up with the finest Syrahs ever made in California! Checking in as a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, aged in barrel, its saturated purple color is followed by out of this world aromatics black raspberries, smoked earth, graphite, game, violets and freshly crushed rock-like minerality. Possessing huge concentration, building tannin, and yet a seamless, ethereally pure texture, it needs 2-4 years of bottle age to become approachable. It is unquestionably the finest vintage for this cuvée today and hats off to the team at Jonata for this beauty!"

  2. K VINTNERS 2009 SYRAH "THE HUSTLER" WALLA WALLA VALLEY 750mL

    Item #: i_234330
    Bottle Size: 750ml
"The Hustler" is from the oldest Syrah vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley. I've only made this wine three times in the past tenyears. 35 months in barrel. Great depth and concentration, aromas of cool campfire ash, game and roasted herbs. Silky and plush with a lot of "WOW," seamless and complete, this is the last Hustler of the decade. - Charles Smith

Growing up just outside of Sacramento, California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Charles Smith began craving worldly travel at a young age due to his Welsh mother and French father. As soon as he had the chance, Charles decided to move to Denmark. While in Scandinavia, Charles spent the next nine years managing rock bands and concert tours throughout Europe, including the famed Danish duo, The Ravonettes. Wining and dining while on the road became a catalyst for his passion of wine, which ultimately triggered the career he has today.

A self-taught winemaker, Charles is a true artisan and a pioneer in the wine world. In 2008, K Vintners was recognized by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the "Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years," and as "Winery of the Year" in their annual buying guide. In 2009 Food & Wine magazine awarded Charles "Winemaker of the Year" and in 2010 Seattle Magazine recognized Charles as their "Winemaker of the Year."

JEB DUNNUCK 100 POINTS - "Another off the charts effort is the 2015 Syrah Cattle King Upland Vineyard, which is also saturated purple/black in color. Possessing a more backward, yet insanely pure bouquet of creme de cassis, black fruits, smoked earth, graphite, and violets, it's beautifully concentrated, has no hard edges, thrilling purity, and a gorgeous, layered, awesome, multi-dimensional style. It needs short-term cellaring but is a monumental wine from Washington."

  4. K VINTNERS 2015 SYRAH "MOTOR CITY KITTY" WASHINGTON STATE 750mL

    Item #: i_234230
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Advocate: 91
This Syrah is sourced from Boushy Vineyard. Dick Boushy is one of the premier vineyard owners in Washington State, and planted this vineyard with the help of Brennon Leighton. This is the highest elevation plot and has a southwestern slope and sandy volcanic soils. Three clones of Syrah are planted on this site: 383, 174 and Joseph Phelps. The 2015 harvest was the warmest vintage in recorded history, with fantastic viticulture and a great extended harvest. Because of this, K Vintners were able to make some of the most incredible wines to date. The vintage was dry and long with an early bud break and late harvest that had cool evenings to guarantee incredible quality. The 2015 wines have big complex flavors, good acidity and great balance.

With all the depth and richness you've come to expect from this single vineyard bottling - black cherry, earth, roasted meat, even charcoal abounds add dried herb. A thread of minerality and it all comes together in an exact and generous expression that speaks volumes as to why Washington Syrah is great!

    Item #: i_234340

    Jeb Dunnuck: 95 Points
Growing up just outside of Sacramento, California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Charles Smith began craving worldly travel at a young age due to his Welsh mother and French father. His wine journey began working in restaurants, spending winters in Palm Springs and summers in Lake Tahoe or Napa Valley from the ages of nineteen to twenty-nine. This period of his life became a catalyst for his passion for wine. In 1989 Charles decided to move to Denmark (for a lady friend he met in the states). While in Scandinavia, Charles spent the next nine years managing rock bands and concert tours throughout Europe, including the famed Danish duo, The Raveonettes. Wining, dining and hard partying while on the road ultimately triggered the career he has today.

Located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla (Washington State), Charles Smith opened his first winery, K Vintners, in December of 2001. The first release,1999 K Syrah from Walla Walla Valley, initiated the style of winemaking that Charles continues today: small lots of single vineyard Syrahs and field blends of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Viognier, all of which are hand-picked, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts and basket pressed.

In Walla Walla the unconventional Smith met a kindred iconoclast, a brash young Frenchman named Christophe Baron, whose vineyards, planted in 1997, were producing distinctive, personality-rich red wines under the Cayuse Vineyard label. He encouraged Smith to make wine in Walla Walla and even sold Smith grapes to help get K Vintners started. Syrah from Baron's Cailloux Vineyard made one of the 1999 wines that got Smith started.

Charles Smith remains as one of the biggest players in Washington wine. He is the only person to have received Winemaker of the Year distinctions by both Wine Enthusiast (2014) and Food & Wine (2009). In 2008, K Vintners was recognized by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the "Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years," and as "Winery of the Year" in their annual buying guide. His wines continue to receive broad recognition from leading wine publications such as Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Wine & Spirits with 98 scores of 95 points and above, and 386 scores of 90 points and above.

JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "All from the Sundance Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, the 2015 Syrah The Deal (100% Syrah, not destemmed and aged in 30% new puncheons) offers smoking notes of red and black fruits, black olive, smoked earth and a huge meatiness. Full-bodied, silky and seamless, with a rock, mineral, backward style."

It is where three-generations of the Yount Family live and play; where they raise their live-stock and grow their fruits and vegetables. It is their home. For this and so many other reasons they never use herbicides, chemical fertilizers or pesticides on the farm.

An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes fresh black and blue fruits, Moroccan spices, vanilla and smoky minerals, while a suave floral pastille accent builds in the glass. Deeply concentrated yet surprisingly lively on the palate, offering sweet black raspberry, boysenberry, spicecake and mocha flavors that unfold slowly, picking up licorice and vanilla notes on the back half. Shows outstanding clarity and thrust on a supple, strikingly long finish shaped by smooth, building tannins."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 93-95 POINTS - "One of the reference point estates in Paso Robles is unquestionably Stephan Asseo's l'Aventure."

"Leading off the reds from barrel, the full-bodied 2015 Cote a Cote (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah) has an elegant, cool climate feel (which can be common in the vintage) as well as pretty, elegant notes of violets, raspberries, peppery herbs and black cherries. The final blend will be a mix of roughly 60% barrels and 40% in concrete and amphora, and it should have a decade of longevity."

JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "Consistently thrilling wines come from l'Aventure, which is run with incredible talent and passion by St. Emilion native Stephan Asseo. His 2016s are incredible efforts, and the 2017 more Rhone blends are certainly in the same ballpark. Due to the heat spikes at harvest, Bordeaux varieties were much more difficult and hit or miss."

"Moving to the wines from bottle and starting with the 2016 Optimus, which is always a great introduction into the wines of this estate, it's a blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Petit Verdot that spent 14 months in 60% new barrels. This full-bodied, rich yet also elegant and lively red gives up a big, sweet nose of crème de cassis, toasted spice, licorice, and graphite. With good acidity and impressive finesse and elegance as well as richness, it’s a no-brainer purchase to drink over the coming 7-8 years." ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 93 POINTS - "Brilliant violet. Ripe dark berries, licorice, woodsmoke and candied violet on the deeply perfumed, spice-accented nose. Concentrated but lively as well, offering intense blackberry, cassis, cola and spicecake flavors that show impressive delineation and back-end lift. A very long, sappy finish features slow-building tannins, a hint of mocha and lingering smokiness." ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "A blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot that checks in at 15.4% alcohol, the 2016 Optimus reveals a lavish bouquet of crunchy berries, anise and creamy new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, spicy and richly tannic, with generous, oak-influenced flavors and a crunchy core of fruit. The finish is long and youthfully chewy. Bottled barely one month before I tasted it, this is already quite expressive and should begin to drink well after just a few years. The Optimus is Asseo's longest-running cuvee, realizing an ambition to blend Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon he nurtured in his native Bordeaux."

Located in the Paso Robles AVA, Law Family Vineyards sits at 1800 feet of elevation, higher than most vineyards in the area. This gives Law Estate distinct microclimates in an appellation already known to have a greater day-to-night temperature swing than any other in California. Calcareous soils with high lime content make these vineyards the best of the best. John Crossland at Vineyard Professional Services, with input from the Laws and winemaker Scott Hawley, designed and planted the thirty-two acres of Rhone varietals in 2008. Eighty percent of the vineyard is planted in multiple clones of Grenache and Syrah with smaller blocks of Mourvedre, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Carignane and Tempranillo. Sustainable farming with minimal applications results in premium fruit.

ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 94 POINTS - "Lurid ruby-red. A powerful, exotically perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, candied lavender and Asian spices, along with a smoky mineral overtone. Silky, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering juicy raspberry liqueur, cherry pie and floral pastille flavors that deepen and flesh out slowly as the wine opens up. Impressively concentrated yet vibrant in character, delivering superb finishing energy and supple tannins that add gentle grip to the floral-tinged finish."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "A Grenache-based cuvée that includes 15% Syrah, the 2015 Beguiling offers up notes of cherry preserve, raspberry liqueur and sweet new oak. A blend of 71% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre, and 14% Syrah, this showcases great aromatics typical of it's Grenache vineyard in the Adelaida District AVA in West Side Paso Robles. On the nose is spicy red fruits, fresh cherries and hints of chocolate. On the palate its combines a new world juiciness and some old world Chateauneuf-du-Pape like floral notes and firm tannins. The Syrah component from a hillside vineyard in the Willow Creek AVA complements, but still allows the Grenache to be in the driver seat of this blend. We think you'll enjoy its freshness and structure now as well as benefit from several years of cellaring to experience its progression.

    Item #: i_236650
    Bottle Size: 750ml
From the man who brought you Prisoner, Papillon, Abstract, and Mercury Head, Dave Phinney brings us a new project that offers immense value! If you blended Cabernet Sauvignon into a Rioja, or Nero d'Avola into Barolo, or Petite Sirah in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, you cannot call those wines by the region (meaning, it's no longer a Chateauneuf-du-Pape). Therefore, Dave has named these wines "Locations" so that you simply know from which country the grapes are sourced.

California is a country unto itself, and fittingly, an appropriate addition to the Locations family. A blend of Petite Sirah, Barbera, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Grenache aged for 10 months, the wine is veiled in dark ruby red, the wine bursts with a tempting perfume of red and black fruits, dried rose petals, and a peppery note which offers some lift. Dense and ripe upon first pass, it evolves into a savory compote of raspberry, kirsch, and bitter cherry balanced out with mineral and herbal notes. The finish is substantial with tangy acidity, yet buffered with polished tannins that please the palate.

The Pisoni Family wines are no stranger to our store, as their flamboyant personalities entice both novices and connoisseurs alike! The Family's Pinot Noirs and Syrahs (produced under several labels) typically garner most of the hype with high scores and this entry level priced Syrah is no exception! Upon tasting, a few of us Hi-Time staff members agreed that by way of Syrahs, this was our new favorite under $20!

JEB DUNNUCK 92 POINTS - "Another gem in the lineup is the 2016 Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands. It reveals textbook black fruits, white pepper, and a hint of bacon fat in a gorgeously pure, medium to full-bodied, elegant package. As with most of the wines here, it's a screaming value that has true varietal character."

"The Luli releases are a partnership between sommelier Sarah Floyd and the Pisoni Family. Year in, year out, they over-deliver and are well worth their going rate."

ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 91 POINTS - "Master Sommelier and wine-broker Sarah Floyd and the Pisoni family began this value-minded project focused exclusively on restaurants and on by-the-glass programs in particular. Today the range of wines has expended and they are available at retailers across the country with value still the mantra. The quality of the lineup is consistently high as is always the case with all things wine that are associated with the Pisoni name which makes these seriously good wines for the money."

"Bright purple. Smoke-tinged blackberry and boysenberry scents are complicated by suggestions of olive paste and peppery spices. Densely packed but lively dark berry flavors pick up licorice and succulent herb nuances with aeration along with a cracked pepper quality. This is very Syrah. Spreads out slowly and puts on weight with air finishing with bright mineral cut strong tenacity and sneaky tannins."
