    Item #: i_238820
    Bottle Size: 750ml
Lynmar's 2018 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir showcases the purity and vibrancy of the region with nuanced texture and bright aromatics. 2. MARTIN RAY 2018 PINOT NOIR SONOMA COUNTY 750mL

    Item #: i_239885
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    James Suckling: 94
The name Martin Ray resonates deeply in the history of California Winemaking. Martin Ray was a pioneer, dedicated to crafting single varietal, region specific wine from 1943 through 1972 in Saratoga, the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mentored by Paul Masson, he took a burgundian approach to his winemaking and developed what is now one of the most historical properties in California, known as Mount Eden.

Nearly twenty years later, Courtney Benham stumbled upon 1500 cases of Martin Ray wine in a San Jose warehouse. Recognizing his good fortune, and his intent and drive to produce terroir driven wines, Ray's historical significance and philosophy resonated with him. Courtney purchased the brand, and since 1990 has been committed to the production of artisanal wines worthy of the Martin Ray name.

Carefully chosen from various vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley and Carneros, this wine's largest components are grown only feet from the river itself, coming from Richioli, Cartan, and Tina Marie. The grapes were fermented separately in small open-top fermenters with gentle punch-downs. The fermentations were carefully maintained at moderate temperatures until dry, when the must was basket-pressed then pumped into barrels for completion of malolactic fermentation. Lots were aged for eleven months in new premium French oak barrels, along with more nuanced 1-2 year old barrels.

JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "This is really fresh and clean with sliced dried strawberries, flowers and citrus. Medium-bodied, very poised and refined with a long, crisp finish. California brightness with French sensitivity. Drink or hold."

    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Advocate: 93
    Vinous Media: 93+
    Jeb Dunnuck: 94
JEB DUNNUCK 94+ POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Anna's was two-thirds destemmed and has a brighter, crisp feel in its raspberry and wild strawberry fruits as well as spicy, herbal notes. Medium-bodied, fresh, and focused on the palate, with present acidity and tannins, it's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for over a decade as well. It's a beautiful wine."

ANTONIO GALLONI 93+ POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir Anna's Block is one of the more reserved wines in the range today. Bright acids and veins of tannin are going to need a bit of time in bottle to integrate fully. Wines from this block rich in loam are often more forthcoming, but the 2018 needs time, which is likely a good thing for its long-term prospects."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "Made with about 70% whole cluster, the 2018 Pinot Noir Anna's Block has a medium ruby color and delicate perfume of red and black berries with notes of dried flowers, nori and citrus peel. The palate has a singular contrast of broody character and bright, lifted freshness, finely grained and with a long, citrusy finish. 575 cases produced."

    Item #: i_241370
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Advocate: 94
    Jeb Dunnuck: 95
JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "Last of the Pinot Noirs, the 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Block M saw a bunch of stems (75% whole clusters) and aging all in neutral oak. Lots of stem influence as well as ripe red and black fruits, forest floor, and gamey, spicy notes emerge from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, it offers ripe, present tannins, good acidity, and all the right components. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir Block M has very pretty scents of blue and red berries with accents of dried violets, tar and dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is layered, broody, grainy and seamlessly fresh, with lovely floral perfume coming through on the long finish. 475 cases produced."

  6. MELVILLE 2018 PINOT NOIR "SANDY'S" SANTA RITA HILLS 750ml

    Item #: i_241060
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Advocate: 93
    Vinous Media: 93
    Jeb Dunnuck: 95
The Sandy's block is named in honor of Ron Melville's sister and was deliberately planted on the extremely sandy northwest section of their east vineyard. Sandy's has performed heroically over the years particularly when considering its extreme location combined with the poor, well drained soils of this section. This block also contains clonal material representative of their new era of plantings and includes selections from Merry Edwards, Calera (Clone 90), and clones 459 and 114. These four selections, when planted on sand, produce wildly intense and pretty aromatics with a very ethereal and harmonic palate impression.

JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "Seeing 50% stems, the 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Sandy's offers a more rounded, complex style as well as beautiful spiced cherry, incense, orange blossom, and foresty, almost pine tree-like nuances. It's medium to full-bodied, with a wonderful texture, present tannins, and a great finish. It's capable of evolving for over a decade."

ANTONIO GALLONI 93 POINTS - "Melville's 2018 Pinot Noir Sandy's Block is delicate and airy in the glass. Sweet red cherry, mint, dried rose petal and a good bit of whole cluster savoriness all give this silky, delicate Pinot so much character and stylishness. The Sandy's (named after Ron Melville's sister) also happens to be planted on pure sand, which, along with the whole clusters, really brings out the wine's aromatics."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir Sandy's has a medium ruby color and broody aromas of crushed blueberries, black cherries, dried violets and bergamot. The palate is medium-bodied with bright juiciness and Goldilocks ripeness, finishing long on a potpourri note. 675 cases produced."

JEB DUNNUCK 99 POINTS - "The flagship release, the 2018 Pinot Noir Katherine Lindsay Estate comes from the Russian River Valley and saw 14% stems and 15 months in 53% new French oak. Medium ruby, with notes of raspberries, spice box, dried cherries, and assorted flowery incense and tea notes, it's wonderfully complex and medium to full-bodied, with seamless tannins and a great finish. Despite coming from the Russian River, it almost has a Sonoma Coast-like style in its perfumed aromatics and beautiful elegance."

  8. PAUL LATO 2018 PINOT NOIR "SEABISCUIT" SANTA RITA HILLS 750mL

    Item #: i_244890
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Jeb Dunnuck: 95
If you do not yet know the name Paul Lato, and you haven't heard us talking about him in our store, then it's time to listen up! We are telling you right now that Paul Lato is producing some of the most exciting Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, and Syrahs coming out of California's Central Coast!

After working as a Sommelier in Toronto, Paul decided to change gears and work in winemaking. After working with Jim Clenden at Au Bon Climat, Paul started making his first wines. Before he even had a name, esteemed critic Robert Parker tasted the wines and suggested that Paul hurry up and come up with a label, because Paul had true talent. Paul only works with premier vineyards; he tastes wines from other producers who use fruit from a potential vineyard, and if that wine excites him, then he tries to get the best fruit from the property.

Paul makes several different wines, but he does not make a large amount of any one bottling. In fact, he often makes just a few hundred cases of a particular label, which means getting your hands on them is even harder. However, our buyer has known Paul for well over a decade, so we tend to get a rather generous allocation...thanks Paul!

The scores for Paul's wines have only been going up and up. In fact, one of his Syrahs received 100 points! We just received a few releases this week, and we felt the need to bring these incredible wines to your attention before they're all gone!

JEB DUNNUCK 95+ POINTS - "A great California success story, Polish immigrant Paul Lato started as a cellar hand in a Santa Maria co-op/custom crush and has worked his way up to being one of the leading producers of artisanal, world class wines in California today. Lato fashions a bevy of wines (I would normally say too many, yet given the quality he's able to achieve, the more the merrier) including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. These aren't lightweight wines, yet they never lose their sense of balance and elegance. I always describe the wines as having a slightly Old World style, but with one foot planted firmly in California. As I hope the reviews show, his 2018s are incredible wines across the board."

"The 2018 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard, from the Sta. Rita Hills, saw a similar elevage and was all destemmed and brought up in 69% new French oak. Ruby/plum-colored, with a spicy, woody style in its red and black fruits, it has lots of cedary spice, flowery incense, and violet notes, medium to full body, a pure, balanced character, and a great finish. It's still relatively tight and focused and will benefit from another year in bottle. It should drink nicely through 2030."

Lots of black raspberries, spiced cherries, salty sea breeze, flowers, orange blossom, and violet notes emerge from the glass, and it's beautifully textured, full-bodied, and incredibly sexy on the palate. Raen is a new project put out by Carlo and Dante Mondavi, grandsons of the famed Robert Mondavi. Carlo and Dante are fourth generation vintners born and raised in Napa Valley who "cut their teeth" working under Tim Mondavi at the Robert Mondavi Winery as well as Opus One. The two brothers credit their dad Tim for the passion they share for Pinot Noir, as Tim is a big Burgundy fan and was a pioneer for California Pinot Noir through the '70s. Raen's Sonoma Coast bottling has been named Royal St. Robert Cuvee, in the honor of Carlo and Dante Mondavi's grandfather (Robert Mondavi) who taught them to be committed to excellence.

ANTONIO GALLONI 94 POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir Bodega is the clear stand out in this range from Raen. Pliant and deep, with terrific presence, the Bodega is impeccably balanced from start to finish. I imagine it will be an even more compelling wine in another few years' time. Bright red cherry fruit, pomegranate, mint, spice and blood orange all infuse the 2018 with tons of character. This is such a pretty and expressive wine, but it needs time in bottle for some of its youthful austerity to soften."

ANTONIO GALLONI 93 POINTS - "Raen's 2018 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is a fabulous introduction to these wines. Airy, gracious and beautifully perfumed, the Royal St. Robert is especially lifted in this vintage. Intense floral, savory and spice notes give the 2018 striking aromatic presence. The 100% whole clusters are evident, but also nicely layered into the wine's fabric. This is an especially ethereal style. I would prefer to give the 2018 a year or two in bottle, as it is a bit clenched, especially on the finish."

It will be interesting to see if time in bottle helps things come together more fully, as the 2018 is pretty hard to read at this stage. In the hills of California's Monterey County lies an area that grows some of the very best Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah. This area is known as the Santa Lucia Highlands. Like many other famed grape growing regions of the state, what once was known for orchards and vegetables farms has become heralded for their grapes, and Roar's Franscioni family is regarded as having one of the top vineyards in the area. In fact, the Franscioni's Rosella's and Sierra Mar Vineyards are in such demand, due to the stellar quality of fruit pulled off the vines, that the finished wines command prices similar to what is found in the Russian River Valley!

A blend of clones 23, 667, 777, Calera, Pisoni, Pommard, and Swan, this wine displays scents of lifted caramel and cream drift seamlessly through a core of cherry, berry, and warm leather. Sourced mostly from their Domaine de la Cote estate (70%), the blend is buttressed by old vines fruit from Sanford and Benedict (20%) and a touch from the newcomer, the Patterson Vineyard (10%). The wine was fermented 30% whole bunches and raised in neutral barrels for 14 months.

This deeply colored wine is brimming with aromatic intensity and notes of focused, dark fruits like plum and berry compote with an undercurrent of nori. On the palate the wine possesses great density and a silky texture with resolved tannins.

ANTONIO GALLONI 93 POINTS - "The 2018 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a glorious wine. A burst of sweet red/purplish fruit makes a strong opening statement that reverberates off layers of savory and floral intensity. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2018 packs a serious punch. Readers who want to get a sense of the year would do well to start here. This striking appellation-level Pinot is one of the overachievers of the year. Then again, vineyard sites are Domaine de La Cote and Sanford and Benedict, which was not bottled separately, but used for wine. The 30% whole clusters are perfectly judged."

  21. SCHUG 2018 PINOT NOIR SONOMA COAST 750mL

    Item #: i_258470
    Bottle Size: 750ML
Founded in 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California's most celebrated winemakers. Walter Schug's reputation blossomed during his tenure as Founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the 1970s, where he made California's first proprietary Bordeaux-Style blend (Insignia) and legendary vineyard designated Cabernets (Backus and Eisele Vineyards).

Drawing on his long experience in the production of fine wines in both Europe and California, Walter set up his own winery with his wife Gertrud in the cool, marine climate of the Carneros Appellation. Here he could focus on the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals that had always been close to his heart.

The microclimates of the Sonoma Coast AVA include the western portion of Carneros and the Petaluma Gap. The cool climate and low yield of these vineyards allow Pinot Noir grapes to mature slowly while retaining their natural acidity, resulting in a balanced wine with ripe flavors, silky texture and crisp acidity. Bright ruby color with aromas of cherry skin, dried cranberries smoky undertones. The palate shows more cherry and dried fruit flavors with earthy notes. Clean with a nice solid backbone completed by a racy acidity. Balanced and tight, an ideal accompaniment to grilled fish and fowl or barbecued meats.

  25. THE FOUR GRACES 2018 PINOT NOIR WILLAMETTE VALLEY 750mL

    Item #: i_222180
    Bottle Size: 750ml
Oregon Pinot Noir is on a string of rock star vintages! 2015 was ripe, juicy, and hedonistic, while 2016 was fresh, lively, and aromatic. 2018 may turn out to be the "Goldilocks" of the trio, showing ripe fruit with good intensity, yet retaining freshness and verve. Oregon Pinot Noir has the potential to stand up to the best wines coming out of California, Burgundy, or New Zealand, and with a wine of this price...earning this score...Oregon may become the best area in the new world to find quality Pinot Noir for not a lot of money!

The Black Family purchased a vineyard in the warm Dundee Hills of Oregon's Willamette Valley as a family retreat. With family and longevity in mind, they immediately changed the farming techniques in the vineyard, and began to employ sustainable farming on the property. Two years later, the family purchased property in the neighboring Yamhill-Carlton District, employing the same sustainable farming practices, and even practicing biodynamic farming on half of the vineyard! This vineyard has been turned into one of the largest experiments of its kind, with 40 acres farmed sustainably through the L.I.V.E. (Low Impact Viticulture and Enology) program. Today, The Four Graces combines the fruit from these two properties to make one fantastic Pinot Noir! This wine was aged for nine months in French oak barrels (of which 15% were new).
