Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates from Canada's Okanagan Valley to Lebanon's Beqaa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. From France, the grape spread across Europe and to the New World where it found new homes in places like California's Santa Cruz Mountains, Napa Valley, New Zealand's Hawkes Bay, Australia's Margaret River and Coonawarra regions and Chile's Maipo Valley and Colchagua. The classic profile of Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be full-bodied wines with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to the wine's aging potential. In cooler climates, Cabernet Sauvignon tends to produce wines with blackcurrant notes that can be accompanied by green bell pepper notes, mint and cedar which will all become more pronounced as the wine ages. In more moderate climates the blackcurrant notes are often seen with black cherry and black olives notes while in very hot climates the current flavors can veer towards the over-ripe and "jammy" side.
- Item #: i_207100Bottle Size: 750MLIf you have enjoyed the prior "vintages" of Cain Cuvee, you will love the NV15. Those of you who have followed Cain Cuvee know that it is not your typical Napa red wine; no big, inky, oaky blockbuster here. Cain Cuvee is intended to sit lightly, refreshingly (dare we say, lovingly?) on your palate. There is all the fruit that you could want, but the Cain Cuvee is not fruit juice. It is, most assuredly, fine wine for serious wine-lovers who value complexity, balance and finish. The Cain Cuvee is for those who know that wine doesnet have to be big to be good.
- Item #: i_248130Bottle Size: 750mlLike many of the great Bordeaux houses, Opus One produces a second wine. This is not a wine made from the outside sourcing of grapes; rather it is produced from unused / leftover blending components from Opus One. The team at Opus farms their Oakville property meticulously and depending on the vintage, the different Bordeaux Varietals broken into blocks will thrive differently year to year. Mother Nature and the winemaker decide what the percentage of varietals shall comprise Opus each vintage so the blend is always changing a few percent each release. The team ages the left over Opus components and will blend 3 vintages worth of leftover components to craft a more “drink now” style of Opus. At a fraction of the cost, this is a beautiful way to experience such an awesome property so rich in history!
- Item #: i_273400Bottle Size: 750mlAbacus is ZD's ultimate Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a solera style multiple vintage blend of every ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ever produced. The term solera describes the fact that only a small portion of the wine is bottled each year. The remainder is returned to barrel to await a new infusion of youth with the next vintage. This means each bottling will grow by one vintage.
The 20th bottling includes 26 vintages of ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (1992-2017). Each bottling is desgnated by its sequence, with the first and last vintage depicted using the abacus on the attached medallion.
