Storm is an exciting new project by Hannes Storm, the former winemaker for Hamilton Russell. After 12 vintages crafting the brilliant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines for the iconic South African winery, Hannes was inspired to start his own label. We had the opportunity to taste this impressive effort and have to say we now have two favorite Pinot based wines from South Africa. Without a doubt, Hamilton Russell and Storm produce the best Pinot Noir we have ever tasted from South Africa! As you would expect from a winemaker of this pedigree, the wine is fantastic, pure and flat-out delicious.
Moya's vineyard is on a northern slope in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, cluttered with large pebbles in the topsoil, with decomposed granite in the subsoil. The cool maritime influence enables the grapes to retain nice acidity and achieve perfect balance. Only a tiny allotment is imported into the U.S. and we are thrilled to have it in the store!
Medium ruby in color, this wine is beautifully aromatic, showing thrilling purity to the fresh fruit with notes of dark cherry, plum fruit, rose petals and subtle oak spice. The pallet has rich structure with elegant, dark cherry and berry fruit, blue plum and baking spices with silky tannins and good acidity. This comes across as a well-balanced wine showing purity and elegance.
TIM ATKIN 94 POINTS - "It's remarkable to note that this 0.3 hectare vineyard was only planted in 2009, yielding its first crop in 2012. It's even better than the initial release: refined and stylish with well integrated oak, filigree tannins, Asian spices and supple, textured fruit flavours of cherry and wild strawberry. Drink: 2015-22"
