100% Sangiovese
This pure Sangiovese bottling comes from a warm part of Chianti Classico, in southern Gaiole. It's a distinctive area with moderately calcareous sandy soils, with vineyards planted on the slopes of relatively low hills. The resulting wines show a generosity in weight, soft texture, and darker tones to the fruit that are restrained rather than ebulient; the magic of this area is that the aromas and mouthfeel have finessed qualities.
Percarlo comes from San Giusto a Rentennano's best fruit (all organically farmed). Owned by the same family since 1914, this relatively small, benchmark estate puts a lot into the quality and character of their wine: they harvest vineyards twice to get ideal ripeness, and perform long fermentations that last over a month to develop complexity. The 2018 vintage was great for San Giusto, allowing the grapes a long ripening period from the consistent warmth of Summer to the cool finishing touches of Autumn. This will evolve beautifully in bottle, and we suggest trying it in 2028. Right now, give it some time in the glass or decanter.

In 2018, Percarlo is silky, gracious and super-refined. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and spice overtones that lend brightness. It shows remarkably well for a wine that was bottled only recently. The 2018 was aged in a combination of 30HL casks and 500-liter tonneaux."
