Nicholson Jones is the collaboration of Cal Nicholson and Julien Fayard; two unique men who share a common vision to produce delicious California-style wines with a delightful and traditional French accent.
Coming from a Carneros vineyard that is farmed by Tony Truchard, this is 100% stainless steel aged (no oak) Chardonnay, but does see the employment of batonnage. What this means is you still get a creamy, rich Chardonnay, but framed to be more fresh. Notes of apple, lemon pith, and tropical fruit swirl in the glass along with layers of cultured creme, floral aromatics, and hints of freshly baked bread. Lemon and apple on the palate show notable viscosity and texture, crisp acidity, and a mineral core that resolves in back palate freshness. This wine is a charming and versatile example of single vineyard terroir expression, as displayed through a focus enhancing usage of lees aging.
