JEB DUNNUCK 100 POINTS - "As with the 2017, the 2018 No 12 Cumulus Vineyard is as good as wine gets. Based on 47.7% Syrah, 23.4% Grenache, 21.3% Petite Sirah, 5.6% Mourvedre, and the remaining 2% a mix of white varieties, aged 32 months in 34% new barrels, its vivid purple hue gives way to a full-bodied blockbuster of a wine that's loaded with cassis and blue fruits as well as notes of gravelly earth, graphite, ground pepper, and spring flowers. Flawlessly balanced, deep, super-rich, and unctuous, yet with incredible purity, give bottles a year of two and enjoy over the following 15 years or more."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 99 POINTS - "This cuvee comes entirely from the Krankl's 'home' vineyard—the Cumulus vineyard in Oak View, just south and inland from Santa Barbara, on the road to Ojai. There are now just over 12.5 acres planted at Cumulus. The first plantings of Syrah, Grenache and Roussanne took place in 2004. A little more Grenache was planted in 2005. Then in 2008, small blocks of Petite Manseng, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah were added, including 3.5 acres on its own roots."

"The 2018 Cumulus Vineyard No 12 is composed of 47.7% Syrah, 23.4% Grenache, 21.3% Petite Sirah, 5.6% Mourvedre and 2% Petit Manseng, using 41% whole clusters. It spent around 32 months in French oak barrels, 66% new."

"Opaque purple-black in color, it slips seductively out of the glass with hints of baker's chocolate, kirsch, blackberry preserves, juicy black cherries and mulberries, leading to fragranced notions of lilacs, bouquet garni and clove oil, plus earthy/savory notes of crushed rocks and salami. Full-bodied, the palate delivers generous black and red fruit preserves flavors, wrapped in the most gorgeous velvety texture and lifted by just enough freshness, finishing long and beautifully poised."
