The wines from Luc and Jodie Morlet have gained a feverish following here at Hi-Time. While their Cabernets and Chardonnays have garnered the limelight and were featured on our “Top Wine” lists in the past, this year it is one of their Pinot Noirs that has us salivating! Coming from a small vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA on the Sonoma Coast, this property sits at 1,100 feet in elevation, and is on just the second ridge from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard is above the fog line and enjoys long, sunny days, yet temps remain cool throughout most of the growing season. This gives the vines time to produce perfectly mature and ripe grapes, and Luc Morlet sorts the fruit berry-by-berry when they reach the winery, ensuring that only the best make it into the finished wine.

JEB DUNNUCK 98 POINTS - "More black fruits, smoked earth, baking spices, and earthy, saddle leather notes emerge from the 2017 Pinot Noir En Famille, which comes from a warmer, south-facing vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview region. This ripe, powerful, full-bodied Pinot Noir has an incredible texture and a huge core of fruit, yet it stays balanced, pure, and elegant, with plenty of tannic structure. Give bottles a year or two."

ANTONIO GALLONI 96 POINTS - "Luc and Jodie Morlet do so many things well. I was particularly impressed with the Pinot Noirs this year. In fact, I have a slight preference for 2017 over 2016 in both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as I find the wines have a bit more focus."

"The Pinot Noir En Famille is fabulous in 2017. Aromatically lifted and powerful, the En Famille is super impressive. Sweet cherry, tobacco, leather and floral notes are beautifully layered throughout. The tannins need time to soften, but that is to be expected in a wine of this level. More than anything else, the balance and poise here are magnificent. This is such a gorgeous wine."

ROBERT PARKER 94 POINTS - "The En Famille Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard planted in 1990, right next door to the 'Coteaux Nobles' vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview vineyard. Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2017 Pinot Noir En Famille delivers quite serious scents of tobacco and new leather over a core of black raspberries, black cherries and kirsch with hints of dried herbs, tilled soil and red roses plus a waft of fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is fantastically fresh and delicately played, featuring grainy tannins to frame the energetic fruit, finishing long with a provocative ferrous note. 300 cases were made."
