The perfect Summer red has arrived at Hi-Time. In fact, Hi-Time's wine buyers were so impressed with Mont Gravet's delicious drinkability, that it was selected as our Wine of the Month-- a first ever for a wine made from 100% Carignan.

This is made from old vines (60 to 80 years old) grown high in the hills of the Hérault region of the Languedoc in Southwest France and is the ideal blockbuster summer red wine! To start, it's an amazing bargain at $9.95 per bottle. The alcohol level is relatively low when compared to other red wines at 12.5% (abv) so it won't drag you down during the warmer months or see you nodding off at the pool party or barbecue. And this wine will shine at just about any gathering with its crowd-pleasing mix of ripe fruits, structure and food pairability!

The nose is quite lush, filled with mixed red and black fruits in the foreground with backup support from hints of rose and a soupçon of vanilla. Ripe fruit balanced by more savory elements-- great start! The palate continues with the bright fruits as the mixed red and dark berries (particularly blackberry!) are supported by notes of garden loam, black tea and light background spice (but the fruit is the star of the show!). Soft tannins and acidity keep the fruits tempered and on an even keel-- this wine is a zen master with its balance! The finish is lengthy on the palate with blackberries and cassis running rampant across the tongue. The structure makes this a great food wine as the tannins and acidity help cut through the fatty deliciousness our favorite summer meals contain. Pair with burgers, brats, grilled veggies, ribs, tacos, pasta, cheeses, etc., and enjoy. This Mont Gravet 2020 Carignan is ideal for the aforementioned summer soirées, gatherings and celebrations of all kinds.

Although this wine is made with the old vines, the vinification was carried out in a modern style. The grapes are destemmed and crushed. The fermentation works at controlled temperature to keep the wine's fruity aromas. The ageing is carried out in tanks with a small amount of French oak to add more complexity and roundness to the blend.

Summer red checklist: great price, tastes amazing with forward fruits so the crowd will love it and will pair with summer foods; relatively low in alcohol so it won't slow you down. Boom! This one hits all the marks. Buy and enjoy with confidence!
