The 2019 Nierstein Hipping Riesling GG is pure and flinty on the elegant, slatey, flinty nose that is already pretty open, even though I am tasting this wine as a barrel sample. On the palate, it is creamy textured, salty-piquant and persistent, with fine tannins, lingering salinity and stimulating finesse. It is still quite reductive, though, but promising. Tasted in April 2020.

Hans Oliver, a.k.a. H.O. Spanier, has probably handcrafted the finest wines I have had from this domain in Oppenheim, which his wife, Carolin Kuhling-Gillot, brought into the marriage. The Rothenpfad GG Wurzelecht, from biblical, ungrafted vines, is one of the finest wines I have ever had from the red slope, and it blew me away earlier this year when I had a sample of it. I enjoyed the bottle over several days. It is a stellar Riesling of the vintage for me, and it is a potential 100-pointer; highly energetic, the wine delivers power without weight, finesse without charm and finishes without ending. The Rothenberg is very rare (720 bottles) because the old parcel is so small (only 1,800 square meters). I hope I will be able to catch a bottle. Many retailers sell only one bottle per client, though... However, the 2019 Pettenthal GG is glorious as well and the finest I have had from K-G. The wine is intense yet pure and tensioned, revealing a tight structure with lingering grip and salinity and a very long finish.
