Its aromas of apple, apricot and guava are ripe and richly fragrant, showing a subtle nuance and complexity that is sure to grow with further time in the cellar. While the fruit is generous and assertive, it's pinned down by prominent notes of chalk, feeling resonant, harmonious and complete on the finish. As with the Mousse "Special Club," this Godme "Les Romaines" is no mere novelty, but rather a wonderfully vinous effort that extends the boundaries of what constitutes greatness in Champagne. Hugues Godmé is the fifth generation of his family to tend vines in Verzenay and like Gilles Dumangin he is another star on the rise in the northern Montagne de Reims.
