This is the latest project from winemaker Greg La Follette, who has been part of the teams at BV, Flowers, DeLoach, and others. Lorenzo Vineyard, owned and farmed by John Bazzano and his family, is among the oldest Chardonnay plantings in the Russian River Valley. Greg has been working with Lorenzo fruit since 1993 and is delighted to continue the relationship through GLF. The GLF block of the vineyard was re-trellised to a quadrilateral system, spreading out the bud load and creating small, open clusters hosting tiny berries. The moderately vigorous loamy clay soil seems to demand a greater bud load on each vine, giving balance to the vineyard and resulting fruit. The fruit was from vines that were own-rooted rather than on rootstock, an absolute rarity in the Russian River.

With only 47 cases made, there is not a lot of this wine to go around. The 2019 is rich and textured with great intensity. The nose presents distinct notes of pears, stone fruit and brioche which are echoed in the palate with layers upon layers of complexity from start to finish.
