The Pinot Noir grape is one of Marlborough’s stars; the cool climate queen of red wine is a natural match for Marlborough’s reliable cool dry vintage climate. The grapes typically show ripe berry fruit flavours – raspberry and strawberry; that distinctive ‘Forest floor” earthen aroma and fresh acidity. Our Pinot Noir grape is a complex amalgam of four different “terroirs”:- classic Wairau river valley stoney soils, southern valleys, Brancott aged clays, Northbank young stone/ clay mix and Awatere Valley complex seabed soils. Each plot was hand harvested, fermented in 2-3 ton lots with hand plunging, skin contacted post fermentation, gently pressed and then aged in 20/80 blend of new/old French oak barriques for 10 months.

Tasting Notes - Our 2013 Pinot Noir has lovely aromas of red cherry, baked plum, nutmeg and that classic Marlborough autumn leaves character. The palate is mouthwatering, with sweet, soft spicy oak, dark plum together with a rich underlay of cherry pie with sweet shortbread pastry.

This Sauvignon Blanc was drawn from 4 vineyards located around Renwick in the Wairau River Valley. Whilst all have their own characteristics, they share in common a Wairau River gravelly, free draining and devigourating soil profile. This classical Marlborough terroir is critical in achieving the smaller berries and lower cropping levels needed to produce premium Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

Vibrant, punchy nose of Guava, lime, citrus, herbs with a hint of passionfruit and a complex amalgam of subtle yeast esters and white flower. The palate is full with excellent texture and flavors of Guava and boxwood; taut with a firm mineral backbone, finishing dry with crisp acidity. This wine has been created to flourish with time, peak drinkability 3 to 5 years.

New Zealand wine is largely produced in ten major wine growing regions spanning latitudes 36° to 45° South and extending 990 mi. The regions are from north to south; Northland, Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury/Waipara and Central Otago. New Zealand red wines are typically made from a blend of varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and much less often Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec), or Pinot Noir. Recently, in Hawkes Bay, there have been wines made from Syrah, either solely or blends, as well as Tempranillo, Montepulciano and Sangiovese. In white wines Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc predominate in plantings and production. Individual wine makers and the particular qualities of a vintage are more likely to determine factors such as malolactic fermentation or the use of oak for aging.
