This 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet was crafted by winemaker Laura Díaz Muñoz, and her sophisticated style and vibrant personality shine through the wine. Laura has worked with some of the best mountain-top and hillside vineyards in the Napa Valley as associate winemaker for Lokoya, Cardinale, Mt. Brave, and La Jota. As an aside, the Lokoya wines received the perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate a whopping five times while she was there!
Learning how to master this grape, Laura set forth on crafting a wine all her own. She was able to pull fruit from vineyards in Atlas Peak, Rutherford, Spring Mountain, and Oakville, and craft a Cabernet Sauvignon that balances both the rich, ripe, opulent fruit of the valley floor, along with the backbone and structure of mountain vineyards. This dazzling and complex wine was aged for 19 months in predominantly new French oak barrels, and shows layered components of cassis, currants and wild berries to follow with inviting aromas of tobacco, graphite, bay leaf and licorice. Full-bodied, forward, generous, yet silky and beautifully proportioned, this is a hedonistic wine that will drink well now, but should evolve easily for a decade in the cellar!
Well-respected wine critic Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine 96 points, and calls this "a joy to drink". On top of that, we searched his site, and it appears that this is the lowest priced 96-point Napa Cab from the highly praised 2016 vintage! If you're a Cabernet lover, and this doesn't catch your attention…check your pulse!
JEB DUNNUCK 96 POINTS - "Made by Laura Diaz (formerly at Lokoya) and coming mostly from valley floor fruit, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Pleinair is a sexy, flamboyant beauty that boasts a deep purple color, a huge nose of cassis and blueberry fruits, a complex floral character, full body, and a pure, elegant, yet pleasure-bent style that's already a joy to drink."
