We love the electric fruit purity of New Zealand wines, and we're particularly excited about the 2019 lineup from the Felton Road winery, which delivers that so beautifully! They are absolutely among the great Pinot Noir makers out there, and the price is well worth the unique expression that's born in the distant Central Otago valley of New Zealand's South Island. You can't help but feel the connection between these wines and the idyllic "purity" of the landscape. The Central Otago is a particularly cool climate for wine grapes, making for wines that carry a dense core of fruit while keeping the flavor profile fresh and aromatically complex. Perfect for the sensitive Pinot Noir grape!

The team at Felton Road is meticulous in their art, and dedicated to biodynamics, which not only avoids the use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyards, but involves the whole ecosystem of the sites (check out their engaging website to get a feel). Their Bannockburn bottling is named for the local town, taking a cue from the village labeling in Burgundy, and represents their best value in the 2019 lineup. For lovers of lithe, energetic, and flavor-intense wines that carry a unique signature of their origins, this is for you!

JAMES SUCKLING 96 POINTS - "A rich and rather decadent nose of ripe strawberry, smoke and grilled meat follows through to a full body with layers of ripe tannins and a juicy, succulent finish. Just a hint of grilled orange to the bacon."

WINE SPECTATOR INSIDER 94 POINTS - "Generous and juicy wild strawberry, cranberry and spiced cherry flavors start off flashy and mouthwatering, but then settle into a harmonious spicy mix of tobacco, clove and oolong tea, with details of chicory and forrest floor that linger on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2034."
