WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "Tasted from vat, the Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente is an elegant expression of Sangiovese with just a hint of the freewheeling wildness that characterizes the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. The wine delivers cherry, wild rose, forest fruit and blueberry. Beyond those primary tones are integrated notes of spice and mild tobacco. The wine is put together with careful precision, and all it needs now is more aging time in order to flesh out and build depth. Everything is set, just give it time."
Fattoria Le Pupille is an important estate for the Maremma that has always promoted higher quality winemaking for the little region they love. At the helm is Elisabetta Geppetti, who re-founded the estate in the 1980s, and served as leader of the regional association of wineries. She's currently joined by her eldest daughter (and future proprietor), Clara, along with enologist Luca D'Attoma who is behind Tuscan greats DueMani, Tua Rita, and previously, Le Macchiole.
DECANTER 95 POINTS (GOLD MEDAL) - " Complex, restrained, super clean, tobacco, leather, cinnamon, cassis, black and red currants and hints of smoke. Full body, balanced with sweet fruit and noble tannins."
