If you've ever had any of the Dagueneau Sauvignon Blancs from France's Loire Valley, then you know those wines are things of beauty. It was over a glass of Dagueneau that brothers Steve and John Dragonette and close friend Brandon Sparks-Gillis decided to leave their jobs at a Los Angeles wine shop and search throughout Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley to find vineyards that could best exemplify the enticing characteristics of this grape. They found those vineyards, and now their Sauvignon Blancs have become some of our favorites in the entire store!

Happy Canyon, with its unique soils and climate - warm to hot summer days and cool to cold evenings - is ideal for promoting full phenolic ripeness while still retaining critical acidity. The organically-farmed Vogelzang is situated on a gently sloping bed of well drained, gravelly loam soil with serpentinite, and Dragonette controls all farming practice, from pruning to canopy management to yield control. Dragonette always does what's needed to help produce the best wines. Only 260 cases were produced, and it's often one of the highest scoring Sauvignon Blancs produced in California!

This wine shows classic Vogelzang character of powerful stone fruit, mango and pineapple aromas, with some floral and herb notes, followed by dramatic fruit flavors of great concentration and texture leading to a whiplash of citrus dominated acidity and effusive minerality, which gives a tremendous finish.

ANTONIO GALLONI 92 POINTS - "I was blown away by the wines I tasted with the team at Dragonette. This is a seriously impressive range. Some of the wines are perhaps a bit pushed in style, which I personally enjoy less, but all the wines are distinctive and full of character, from the four Sauvignon Blancs all the way through to the Pinot Noirs and Syrahs. In Santa Barbara, I am looking for an expression of place, and these wines deliver that in spades. Stylistically, the wines lean into the richer end of the spectrum."

"The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Vogelzang Vineyard is dense, textured and inviting. Here too, the intensity of the year has pushed the wine into the more tropical realm, but there is good energy too, plus a translucent feel that keeps the wine from feeling too heavy. Butter, apple tart and dried flowers linger on the close."
