"It's the finest wine I've tasted from this Château" - Jeb Dunnuck

"Les Grandes Murailles is one of the Sleepers of 2018. Don't miss it." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

"A hidden gem as well as an incredible wine that readers should snatch up" - Jeb Dunnuck

We are thrilled to have the 2018 Chateau Les Grandes Murailles in stock. We have been anxiously awaiting this wine for two years as it is unquestionably one of the best wines of the 2018 Vintage. This richly layered Bordeaux boasts generous, perfectly ripened fruit and silky-smooth tannins. Noted critic Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine a 97 Point score and called it, "the finest wine I've tasted from this Château."

This tiny Bordeaux estate located on the northern edge of the ancient city of St. Emilion takes its name from the single remaining great wall or Grandes Murailles of a 12th century Dominican monastery. While lesser known than some of its neighbors, that is quickly changing. The Cuvelier family, owners of the highly-regarded neighboring estate of Clos Fourtet purchased the property in 2013. Their focus, expertise and attention to detail has resulted in Grandes Murailles making its finest wines ever.

The small 2 hectare vineyard of Chateau Les Grandes Murailles is planted on terroir of sandy-clay over limestone soil. The small size of the vineyard allows the fruit to be picked in a single day at the optimum level of ripeness. The wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels from eight different coopers. Renowned oenologist Michel Rolland consults for the Cuvelier family in its efforts.

This wine is remarkably drinkable now and will only get better with time for those who wish to stash some away in the cellar. The Quality to Price Ratio for this one is off the charts as we are able to offer it at the best price in the nation. Enjoy!

JEB DUNNUCK 97 POINTS - "Coming from a great (although tiny) terroir on the upper plateau just next to Clos Fourtet, the 2018 Château Grandes Murailles checks in as 100% Merlot that was brought up in 60% new barrels with the balance in once-used oak and amphora. It's the finest wine I've tasted from this Château and its dense purple color is followed by a monster bouquet of blueberries, black raspberries, spring flowers, cured meats, candied orange, and spring flowers. With full-bodied richness, a voluptuous, layered textured, gorgeous tannins, and the purity and elegance that's the hallmark of the vintage, it's a hidden gem as well as an incredible wine that readers should snatch up. Hats off to the Cuvelier family for a thrilling wine."
