"Fills the mouth with decadent red and black fruit preserves, structured by velvety tannins and finishing with fantastic length" - Wine Advocate

"It has ripe fruit character, pleasant richness and a firm structure" - Wine Enthusiast

"Long and regal. Every bit as good as the 2015, but more lively in 2016" - James Suckling

We are excited to offer one of the greatest values from Saint Emilion. Chateau Fombrauge has become one of our best-selling wines from the right bank in Bordeaux and it’s easy to understand why. It's hard not to like this rich, full-bodied wine filled with lushly textured dark fruits and a touch of toasty cocoa. We have carried many vintages of this wine and the 2016 may be the best yet. The critics have also spoken loudly with James Suckling and the Wine Enthusiast giving this wine a score of 94 Points. The Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate are not far behind with each awarding this delicious wine 92 Points.

We love Grand Cru Bordeaux and we especially love these wines when they are produced in epic vintages. This is one of those cases when the stars are perfectly aligned and we were able to purchase the 2016 Chateau Fombrauge from Saint Emilion for a great price. This well-regarded Chateau is owned by Bernard Magrez who also owns the famous left bank property, Chateau Pape Clement and La Tour Carnet among others.

Chateau Fombrauge harvested its first grapes in 1599 and has long been known as having terroir perfect for winemaking. Bernard Magrez purchased the property in 1999 and has only enhanced the legacy of this Grand Cru property by investing in the vineyards and cellar.

One of the secrets to the success of this estate is the winemaker's ability to source grapes from many parcels on the property. This art of blending creates a whole which is greater than the sum of its parts. By taking advantage of the diversity of soils and the vineyard's wide range of exposures, the wine is able to display its full potential and complexity.

The result is a sublime wine and a textbook example of the quality which can be found in Grand Cru Classe from St. Emilion. If you are a fan of full-bodied Bordeaux bursting with plentiful fruit and a long finish, this is for you.

This is an excellent value on a delicious, ready to drink wine at the lowest price in the nation!

JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "There’s a very rich and powerful core of red-plum and mulberry aromas and flavors here, delivering an assertive and very shimmery, polished palate. Great tannin texture. Long and regal. Every bit as good as the 2015, but more lively in 2016. Try from 2023."

WINE ENTHUSIAST 94 POINTS - "This is a perfumed wine, likely thanks to a dollop (7%) of Cabernet Franc. It has ripe fruit character, pleasant richness and a firm structure."

WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Fombrauge sings of lively kirsch, baked black cherries and warm plums notes plus touches of potpourri, cigar box and garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with decadent red and black fruit preserves, structured by velvety tannins and finishing with fantastic length."

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Big and broad in feel, with a cocoa lacing from start to finish that weaves around dark fig and blackberry preserve flavors. Roasted apple wood and tobacco notes score the finish, leaving a touch of woodsy grip echoing. Best from 2022 through 2032."
