This terrific Cru Beaujolais received 94 Points from James Suckling who praised the, "brightness and perfume along with excellent concentration and wonderful freshness."
It's easy to take Chanrion's consistent quality for granted, but a recent tasting grabbed our attention anew. At a wine bar event featuring eight high-quality Beaujolais, this one stole the show. The Hi-Time staff absolutely loved it and this is the wine most customers took home at the end of the night.
This is a cuvée we carry every vintage as it is a standard bearer for Cote de Brouilly. This Cru is noted for its quality and sits on the hillside of Mont Brouilly, a prehistoric volcano with blue schist stones and volcanic rock along its slopes. Using time honored traditional winemaking techniques of Beaujolais, the Gamay grapes are hand harvested, vinified using whole cluster fermentation and aged in large oak foudres for at least nine months. The resulting wine is stunning with loads of pure fruit character and floral aromas.
With six generations of family tradition preceding her, Nicole Chanrion grew up helping her father in both the vineyards and the cellar. Though she is mild-mannered and slight of build, her determination and conviction have consistently defied all doubts. She performs all tasks related to the farming and vinification of the wine. She is so well respected by her peers that she became president of the Côte-de-Brouilly appellation.
The popularity of Gamay from Beaujolais increases every year. What's not to like with beautiful, juicy fruit framed by silky tannins? Beaujolais is a fantastic medium-bodied culinary partner and is often served with turkey, chicken and traditional fare served during the holidays. It is also deeply satisfying to enjoy on its own.
This is among the best you will find in Beaujolais and the quality to price ratio is hard to beat. We are happy to offer this eminently drinkable, refreshing Beaujolais at a great price.
JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "Great forest-berry aromas pour from the glass, bridging effortlessly the gap between the traditional brightness and perfume of this appellation and the ripeness that the new climatic situation brings to Beaujolais. Excellent concentration and wonderfully mineral freshness that gives this so much energy at the long finish. Drink or hold."
