Wine Spectator reviews over 15,000 wines each year in blind tastings, using stringent standards; they rely on their proven ability and experience as tasters and critics. Each review has detailed tasting notes and drinking recommendations.

We have been touting this Chardonnay for years, but when we tasted the newly-released 2021 vintage, we thought this might be the best one yet...and it seems the critics agree!

Founded nearly four decades ago, Chalk Hill Estate has consistently released award-winning wines that capture the casual luxury of Sonoma County. Located at the convergence of several naturally defined winegrowing regions, this unique Sonoma County estate features a range of microclimates, soils and exposures that require well-reasoned, site-specific farming protocols. Bill Foley purchased the property in 2010, and has since continued the meticulous farming practices to ensure that the resulting grapes have the potential for world class wine. With the help of his vineyard manager and his winemaker, Bill Foley is keeping Chalk Hill in the lime light, producing wines that deliver vivid aromatics, commanding flavors, great character and regional accuracy.

Starting with the 2011 vintage, in addition to their estate Chardonnay, Chalk Hill started producing their first Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. This Chardonnay features fruit from some of the best sites in Carneros, Chalk Hill, and of course, the Sonoma Coast. The fruit coming from the Chalk Hill AVA provides richness, concentration, viscosity and nuttiness, while the Carneros delivers structure and notes of apple and pear.

This wine was aged in 25% new French oak for 9 months, so no corners were cut in making this wine, and the scores reflect this. Wine Spectator just scored this wine at 92 points, and designated it their "Value Pick of the Week"! When you couple that with the low price of just $16.95, then you may have just found your new "go-to" Chardonnay for weekday meals, parties, or early fall afternoons on the porch!

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Presents pear drop, Fuji apple, ripe Bartlett pear and lemon blossom details that are elegant and restrained, but they weave in and out on a light, fresh frame that's quite impressive. Gains a savory element, thanks to a touch of toasted sesame seed."
