Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, 107 Proof
This wonderful bourbon is bottled as close to barrel proof as possible. We add just a splash of our Kentucky limestone well-water when we empty the barrels for bottling. Thus, this whiskey is as smooth as any you will find. The more water you add to whiskey from its natural barrel proof to its bottle proof, the harsher it becomes. This 107 barrel proof seems to be just right.

ANTONIO GALLONI; VINOUS -"The 2018 Sout van die Aarde is pure Palomino fermented in 500-liter barrels for 11 months. It has a light, neutral bouquet with discreet gravelly and sea spray scents, less oxidative in style than other Palominos found in the Capelands. The clean, fresh, lightly spiced palate offers a fine bead of acidity and a tang of lemongrass and dessicated orange peel on the finish. Very fine."
Have you ever heard something described as a little drop of heaven? If not, that just means you’ve never been properly introduced to the bourbon ball. Although we can’t take credit for the brilliant idea to combine bourbon and chocolate, we can say we’ve taken it upon ourselves to perfect that magical combination. And darn if we think we haven’t done just that.

There is nothing better than a crisp, cold beverage at the end of a long day. Conversely, there is nothing worse than that same beverage getting warm before you can enjoy it. Keep your favorite nectar cool with our Old Rip Van Winkle hugger. It comes in the universally flattering color of tan and branded with the Old Rip Van Winkle logo.
Bourbon barrels have a thankless job. Charring, years of expansion and compression, sitting in the dark nurturing their precious nectar. After performing such a heroic service, it seems a shame that the bourbon barrel’s usefulness comes to an end when the distillation begins.
We decided to do something about that. Louisville artist Jason Cohen has transformed these noble Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrel staves into cutting boards, each bearing the distinctive Van Winkle crest. The next time you cut the perfect lemon wedge, do it with artistry, dedication and good taste. The way Pappy would have wanted.
Dimensions: 8.5 x 9 inches
As the natural wood of the bourbon barrel stave used to create this cutting board will dry out over time and use, we suggest periodically applying food safe mineral oil with a dry cloth, towel or sponge to maintain the care and luster. Rinse with mild soap and warm water and dry immediately. Never soak the cutting board in water and minimize overall exposure to water.
JAMES SUCKLING 100 POINTS: "Stunning aromas of blackberries, black olives, brown sugar and dried flowers. Tar. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Superfine tannins, yet this is muscular and long. An amazing wine reminiscent of the great L’Evangiles of the 1950s. Straight track. Goes on and on. Truly great wine. Try in 2024. Just a baby."
JEB DUNNUCK 99 POINTS: "In the running for the most opulent, sensationally textured, massive wine in the vintage is the 2015 L'Evangile and if tasting this beauty doesn’t make your heart rate increase, I don’t know what will. Made from 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc brought up in plenty of new oak, its ruby/plum color is followed by an awesome bouquet of blackberry jam, smoked meats, licorice, truffle, and hints of chocolate. Thick, opulent, super ripe, and decadent, with a full-bodied mouthfeel that needs to be tasted to be believed, it still stays balanced and fresh on the palate and is already impossible to resist. It’s going to keep for 3+ decades. This is one of those wines I wish every reader could taste!"
DECANTER 97 POINTS: "Full of class and distinction, high in alcohol but barely perceptible because it is so packed out with layers of fruit. This has a lovely density and power, very ripe but not excessively so. It is closed right now, but this is going to grow into one of the great vintages at L'Evangile. 100% new oak, but already melted into the overall structure of the wine."
WINE ADVOCATE 97 POINTS: "The 2015 L'Evangile is composed of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc and was matured for 18 months in new oak barrels from Tonnellerie des Domaines (their own cooperage). Deep garnet-purple in color, it absolutely leaps from the glass with complex, gregarious notes of blackberry pie, plum preserves, smoked meats/charcuterie, mocha and licorice plus suggestions of cloves, black soil and unsmoked cigars. Full-bodied, rich, opulent and jaw-droppingly sexy, it has beautifully plush yet firm tannins with a lively backbone and a very long, spicy finish."
It doesn’t take an athlete to agree that Lavantureux’s fullest-bodied grand cru, both youthful and rich, is easy to savor, no matter the effort that preceded its arrival at table.
"With a sharp eye, natural instinct, and solid, Burgundian pragmatism, Roland Lavantureux is making no-nonsense Chablis that has come to be one of the most reliable of the old reliables here at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant."
