In 1993, Alfredo Buglioni bought the old farmhouse of his dreams, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico. With the property came a 4 hectares vineyard planted to the local red varieties Corvina, Corvinone, Molinara and Rondinella.
Then with the 2000 vintage, Alfredo and son Mariano undertook their first serious effort at winemaking. They relied on a consultant to set up their cellars below their farmhouse and to produce the first vintage of 12000 bottles. As an outsider, Buglioni knew he had to do something different to get his wines to the public. So in January 2005, he converted a family boutique at a prime location in downtown Verona into a wine bar.
Osteria del Bugiardo quickly became a hit with wine-loving locals and visitors. With holdings expanded to 54 hectares, Buglioni makes a line of nine wines-including an IGT white from Garganega and rose and white sparklers-plus a grappa. But reds are the stars: In the 2007 to 2011 vintages, Buglioni released six wines scoring 90-plus points in Wine Spectator tastings.
"(I'm) Perfetto" is a bit of wordplay suggesting imperfection while also stating "I am perfect!" We would lean toward the latter half of that statement as this wine is easy to love and showcases the quality Buglioni and his team have attained-- seriously good juice here!
The nose leads with red and black cherries, raspberries and mixed berries, rose petal, balsa wood and a touch of earth/minerality. Upon tasting, cherries and dried cherries are primary flavors as secondary notes of cola nut, garrique and dried orange peel are garnished with a hint of grated nutmeg. Appropriate acidity keeps the wine lively on the tongue and balanced, ready for food. We'll go with the winery's suggestions to pair: "Tasty pasta and rice dishes, with truffle and porcini mushrooms. Char-grilled and roasted beef, lamb and medium/mature cheeses."
