Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a winery located in the area covered by the Campo de Borja Denominación de Origen (DO, wine quality standard). It was founded in 2002 with the aim of turning it into a world reference for Garnacha wines of the highest quality, prepared from native vine clones.

‘Veraton’ is the third wine we produce from the Garnacha grape, from vines between 30 and 50 years old, and aged in barrels for 16 months. It is a wine with an attractive collection of balsamic notes, of chocolate and black fruits, very warm in the mouth and an extremely pleasant finish.

ROBERT PARKER 91 POINTS - "Most of the Moncayo wines tend to sell for higher prices, but the 2014 Alto Moncayo Veraton is their least expensive cuvée, overseen by famous Barossa Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. Made from 100% Grenache, it was aged in 60% new French oak and 40% American oak barrels for 16 months prior to bottling without filtration. This is a 1,500-case cuvée that is pedal-to-the-metal material, as one might expect from Ringland. With an opaque ruby/purple color, beautiful blackberry, charcoal and oaky notes are followed by a modern-style wine with huge fruit, big body, sweet tannin and a long finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."

The Martin Ray Winery and it's sister brand Angeline has long drawn from a wide array of coastal Pinot Noir vineyards to provide a balanced and beautiful red wine. This vintage, they selected blocks from these same vineyards to be trained and harvested for their very first vintage of Pinot Noir Rose. The combination of these selections, which are picked and pressed early in the season to provide bright, vibrant acidity, in addition to the full, fruity saignee, from their North Coast vineyards, has produced a seamless, mouth-watering Rose, that is balanced in both outstanding fruit and refreshing acidity.

This wine is produced by both whole-cluster pressing as well as saignee method. The latter, they pick ripe, flavorful fruit, crush it to a stainless steel tank, and allow 6-8 hours of contact with the skins to achieve optimal color and flavor before draining the juice to ferment as a Rose. The former is picked early in the season to maintain bright fruit and acids, then sent directly to the bladder press at light pressures. Both styles are inoculated with a specialized Rhone yeast to enhance the natural color and fruit character throughout fermentation. Fermentation is halted immediately upon reaching dry sugar levels to preserve the fruit and aroma.

This mouth-watering Rose will be certain to exceed expectations. With delicious aromas of watermelon, nectarine, and ruby red grapefruit, complemented by floral notes of lilies and orange blossoms, we challenge you not to be delighted. A fruity front palate of candied strawberries, leads into a crisp, citrus mid, and closes beautifully with a clean, concise acidity on the end. This is destined to be a versatile crowd pleaser.

Nestled high upon Atlas Peak, in the eastern mountains of the Napa Valley lies a majestic property, owned by one of the "royal families" of winemaking; this property is Antica. The name Antica is a combination of the last name Antinori and California, and represents the Antinori family's longstanding desire to craft exceptional estate wines that are a true expression of Napa Valley terroir.

The Antinori family's winemaking history has been synonymous with the famed wine growing regions of Tuscany and Umbria since its inception more than 600 years ago. The Antinori think beyond a single vintage, and instead, think long term when making decisions that will impact the finished wines. Marchese Piero Antinori first visited and fell in love with Napa Valley in 1966, after which he dreamt of producing an Antinori Napa Valley wine. In the mid-1980s, the opportunity presented itself; a 1,200-acre estate on a high plain, in the eastern mountains of Napa Valley. Antinori knew that the property's Atlas Peak location had great potential for growing quality wine grapes, so the family took part in developing the property.

Situated above the fog line, the Antica estate offers a mix of steep, rocky soils in its higher elevations and loamy, well-drained soils in the lower ones. There are more than 50 blocks within the estate, a true patchwork quilt that takes advantage of the variations in soil, elevation, and exposure to best match varietal, rootstock, and clone to attain the ideal expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. The high altitude (1,800 feet) means cooler daytime temperatures, which provides a long growing season, and gives the grapes complexity, enhanced textures, and dark colors. The steep, rocky and well-drained soils result into low yields (three pounds) per vine, but the fully ripened grapes show great structure with concentrated fruit, and focused and persistent flavors. Tannins are ripe, balanced, and integrated.

ROBERT PARKER 94 POINTS - "A beautifully elegant, stylish Cabernet Sauvignon from the Antinori outpost in Napa Valley, their 2013 has a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful, sweet kiss of pure blackcurrant fruit, licorice and forest floor. Full-bodied, but with creamy texture, sweet, beautifully integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, this is an impressively well-crafted wine that’s drinkable now, but should evolve nicely for another 15-20 years."

Auspicion is a proprietary label crafted by Opici Wines honoring the history of California winemaking. Fresh and fruit-forward selections are produced using grapes sourced from the finest varietals across northern California (this Cab is sourced from Napa, Lodi and Paso Robles). Brought to you by the Opici family, this collection embodies their tradition of delivering top quality wines at an excellent value.

Opici Wines (founded in 2013) is an importer and producer of fine wines, artisanal spirits and craft beers from around the globe. They were named "Importer of the Year" in 2014 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in their annual Wine Star Awards-- so they know a thing or two about great wines. That they were able to make a California Cab that's as good as this wine is, for the price we are able to sell it for, is simply amazing! We sampled a few different bottles to make sure it's the real deal and are happy to report that in no uncertain terms, it is!

Tasting Notes - In the nose, sweet notes of strawberry, cherry and red plum are tempered with light wood spice and fruit leather. The palate has a soft entry filled with sweet fruits echoing the nose, balanced with silky tannins and light acidity. Red berries and cherry kirsch are topped with a touch of cocoa nibs and vanilla; the fruit flavors are the star of the show as the finish lingers nicely. This is a balanced, beautiful Cab that pairs with not only summer foods (barbecued meats, charcuterie, picnic foods), but also warm weather.

Owners John and Michelle (JaM) Truchard have created quite a following in a relatively short amount of time. With the name of their wine label being called JaM, they employed the help of winemaker Rob Lloyd to produce a rich, jammy style of Cabernet. Well, that wine was a huge hit, and since Rob knew a thing or two about making Chardonnays, it only made sense that this white wine should be called "Butter". As the name implies, this is a rich, buttery style of Chardonnay laced with aromas of baked lemons and mandarin oranges mingle with a hint of spice and smoke. The palate begins with crisp pineapple, bright citrus and ripe melon while a soft creaminess rounds out the finish. This Chardonnay is ready for immediate enjoyment and is suited to a wide variety of foods including white fish, smoked salmon and creamy pasta dishes.

JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "Wow. I love the texture and beauty of this young Brunello. Medium to full body with a dense and tightly compacted palate. Dried cherry light cedar and chocolate. It goes on for minutes. Gorgeous now. Excellent acid fruit balance, but will improve with age."

WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautifully finessed and elegant wine. It offers a very pleasing sense of balance in which no one characteristic overpowers the next. A dark ruby appearance gives the wine an open and inviting personality. The bouquet produces a subtle medley of wild berry, blueberry, underbrush and toasted almond aromas. The mouthfeel is lean, but it also shows polished and silky persistence. If you don't have the patience to wait, it tastes great even at this early stage."

If Cetamura by Badia a Coltibuono is any indication, the hype of the great 2015 vintage in Tuscany is justified. Here is our first look into how well Sangiovese performed in what is being described as ideal growing conditions. Coltibuono's entry-level Chianti displays a wonderful bright fruit character while maintaining freshness. Cetamura is a perfect wine to keep on hand and is fantastic with food, especially Italian cuisine such as pasta, pizza, risotto and cheeses, but is also very enjoyable on its own.

Coltibuono produced Cetamura with the intention of creating a young wine for every day consumption. This traditional blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes does not see any oak, preserving the fresh fruit character of the grapes. Cetamura is medium-bodied with moderate alcohol (13% ABV) and a refreshing fresh fruit quality resulting in a wine that is harmonious and balanced.

The name Badia a Coltibuono translates to Abbey of the Good Harvest and the estate dates back to the middle of the eleventh century. The historic knowledge and winemaking skills have been passed down through the years and reveal themselves in every glass of wine. We have become huge fans of the wines from Badia a Coltibuono. In fact, we enjoy them so much we usually have three different tiers from this estate available at the store at any given time.

One would be hard pressed to find a better “everyday drinker” from Tuscany. Cetamura is an “off the charts” Chianti value and the affordable price only enhances our pleasure. Salute!

Medium ruby in color. On the nose, this wine has aromas of red cherry, dried plum, black tea and subtle notes of leafy underbrush. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium-bodied with well-balanced acidity and soft, easygoing tannins. Flavors of cherry, wild berries and licorice linger on the persistent finish. The wine is fresh, very pleasing and ready to drink.

JAMES SUCKLING 90 POINTS - "A fine and silky red with plum and chocolate character, medium body and a fresh finish. Real Chianti."

Domaines Ott is back in stock! Every year, our customers anxiously await the release of this highly sought after rose. This world class wine is always the latest rose to be released, but was exceptionally tardy this year. As a result, we have fielded hundreds of phone calls and in person inquiries asking when "Ott" will arrive. The wait is finally over and we now have plenty in stock, including a supply in our refrigerated "cold box" near the front registers making it easy to grab a bottle and go!

Domaines Ott has built a reputation as a must-have dry rose known for its great depth of flavor and thirst-quenching deliciousness. The attractive hourglass shaped bottle contains a wine which has captured our hearts and our palates. This versatile quaffer is a must have for barbecues or to enjoy when lounging around the pool. It is also famously food friendly and pairs well with almost any dish.

This is a great rose to stock up on and enjoy throughout the year!

Pale orange in color with peach highlights. Expressive aromatics with notes of white orchard flowers, citrus and red berries leading the charge. On the palate, this wine is dry, medium-bodied, silky and refreshing. The flavors draw you in with strawberry, raspberry, citrus fruits, white peach and wonderful minerality that culminate in an impressive long-lasting finish. Grenache with Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre.

We always look forward to any new release from any of the Gil Family Estate wineries-- their group of small family wineries, scattered throughout the Spanish geography, have an excellent track record with our staff, customers and palates. If anything, the 2014 "Clio" exceeded our expectations in its depth, character and quality. Clio is a blend of 70% Monastrell from very old vines and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are harvested in small baskets to prevent bruising. The juice spends 24 months aging in new American and French Oak barrels.

Inky purple/black in color, Clio seemingly shines in the glass. The nose is filled with spice, mineral earth, cassis and black cherry fruit, charcuterie, dark florals, mesquite, vanilla, chocolate and a melange of mixed, concentrated dark fruits and berries: lots going on! Upon tasting, the lush mouthfeel is enwrapped with the dark fruits found in the nose: cassis, blackberries, black cherry. The tannins are smooth and the acidity is excellent and uplifting-- great structure in this wine. This is such a zen wine-- it's a paragon of balance and so comfortable in its skin. The flavors, textures, scents, tannins and acidity work together, lifting the totality of the wine to a pinnacle they wouldn't be able to hit on their own. This is why we look forward to releases from the Juan Gil family of wines-- they tend to be, like this one, stunning.

Garage wine company was born out of an independent spirit, as Derek Mossman, his wife Pilar and friend Dr. Alvaro Pena embarked on their winemaking endeavor back in 2001 in the garage. Derek Mossman had grown tired of making wine for his corporate outfit by formula and wanted to craft something unique and small-scale that represented its place.

Since their inception every bit of the winemaking has been done naturally—organic or sustainable fruit sources that are often dry-farmed and always hand-harvested, while in the winery only using native yeasts and neutral barrels—and even the bottling was from recycled glass. Their efforts spilled over and encouraged other winemakers to follow suit—Garage Wine Company was the founding member of the MOVI (Movement of Independent Vintners), which pioneered a new set of more conscientious winemakers that prize quality over quantity. Something exceedingly rare in Chile.

From a hobby that yielded only a hundred cases (in small lots) in the beginning, Garage Wine Company has now gone on to garner praise from international critics for its ability to make compelling wines from well-maintained sites in the Maule, Maipo and Itata Valleys. (91-95 Points across the line from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate)

That is why it is particularly exciting to offer one of their latest wines: The 2016 First Salvo Ferment País.

País holds a special significance for Chile where it's known as the Mission grape or Pipeño, first coming over from Spain in the 1600's for the purposes of making wine for the Catholic Mass. It has now taken on a Beaujolais-like fervor for Chilean wine drinkers. Fresh, fruity and easy that could be best served with a little chill.

Garage Wine Company’s País is no exception; there is no carbonic maceration, but plenty of primary red fruits like raspberry and red cherry with slight leaf and spice notes and tremendous acidity to deliver a clean, fresh and persistent finish. But don’t just take our word for it, as it was also given 91 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "I also tasted the second version of the single ferment País, the 2016 País. There is more freshness here, and it's not only the year. In this second ferment they increased the amount of fruit from Triquilemu. There is a note of pencil lead, unusual acidity for País and very good freshness."

Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made using barley sourced from Crisp Maltings, Portgordon (Portgordon is a village in Moray, Scotland). After the barley has been malted and mashed, it is fermented in wooden washbacks for approximately two days. The wooden washbacks used by Glenlivet are more difficult and expensive to maintain as compared to the stainless steel washbacks used by most Scottish distilleries, but impart a distinctive, floral quality to the whisky.

After the barley has been fermented, it is distilled twice - first through Glenlivet’s wash still, and then again through Glenlivet’s spirits still. Originally designed by George Smith, the copper-pot stills have a unique, lantern-like shape, which encourages contact between the whisky and the copper. The copper strips the whisky of any impurities it may have, and provides for a lighter and more pure flavor profile.

Following distillation, The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky - part of Glenlivet’s Classic Range - is matured in a mixture of cask types, including American Oak and European Oak. In particular, the American Oak lends the whisky its vanilla character and distinct smoothness, while the 12 years spent inside both barrels gives the whisky aromas of honeysuckle and summertimes fruits, along with notes of fresh pineapple and bitter cocoa on the palate. The whisky has a rich, creamy finish filled with lasting touches of hazelnuts and marzipan.

Hot off the press, we just received the 2013 Hacienda Monasterio which garnered a huge 95 Point score from the Wine Advocate. The publication singled out Monasterio as, "clearly among the best wines of the vintage." This Spanish blend is comprised of 80% Tempranillo rounded out with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is always terrific, but they outdid themselves this vintage with very strict sorting of their grapes. As mentioned in the lengthy review, Monasterio did not bottle a Reserva or Reserva Especial, so all of their very best grapes made it into this wine. The depth and purity of fruit flavors are evident in every sip you take.

Hacienda Monasterio is a 150-hectare estate located between Pesquera and Valbeuna de Duero in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. At the end of the 19th century, this property was owned by the Lecanda family, who were the first owners of Vega Sicilia. The estate was purchased by Carlos del Rios in the early 1990s. His wine background is rooted in Jerez, as his family has been in the sherry business for decades with Tio Pepe and now the Gonzalez-Byass.

Carlos built the current winery in 1991 with French architect Philippe Mazieres who designed the spectacular cellars for Chateau Margaux and Chateau d'Yquem. Peter Sissick (of Pingus fame) has served as consulting winemaker since the estate's beginning with local winemaker Carlos de la Fuente. Vineyards are planted primarily to Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and specifically to three types that are based on very old selections. The vineyards are ideally situated on limestone soils with a south facing exposure.

Hacienda Monasterio is a delicious wine that possesses power and intensity while maintaining finesse and complexity. It can be enjoyed now or over the next 10 years or so. Salud!

WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "The wonderful 2013 Crianza from Hacienda Monasterio is one of the great successes from a challenging vintage that resulted in a heterogeneous collection of wines, where you can find the best and the worst. 2013 was a shorter vintage and they didn't do a Reserva or Reserva Especial that year, so the very best grapes from their estate vineyards went into this Crianza. In fact, they sold 40% of their production in bulk. The final blend was 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and they didn't use any Merlot this year. It's a very precise vintage, with symmetry and a chiseled mouthfeel coupled with very good acidity, a little higher than in 2014 and with half a degree less of alcohol. The Monasterio vineyards are south-facing, the warmer exposure in the northern hemisphere, so they have an advantage in cooler years such as this 2013. Since 2012, the vineyards are organically certified, even if they have always been worked that way; the only difference is that they are now officially certified. The fruit is red rather than black and the tannins are super fine and elegant, providing for that laser-cut precision. This is clearly among the best wines from the vintage. In a way it reminded me of the 1996. The severe selection resulted into 134,560 bottles, way below the average, and it really paid off. Bravo!"

The Hahn Family has been farming in the Santa Lucia Highlands area since the late ‘70s with land purchased to graze livestock. It didn’t take long for Nicky Hahn to see a much greater potential for his acreage and by 1980 had produced his first wine. The region’s climate was unique from surrounding areas and over the next 8 years it gained its status as an AVA thanks to Nicky Hahn leading the charge. Over the years the family has acquired additional Vineyards in the region totaling 650 acres all sustainably farmed and family operated.

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "The 2015 Pinot Noir Hahn SLH has a medium ruby-purple color and pronounced nose of baked black cherries, warm plums and raspberry preserves plus suggestions of spice box, violets and dried Provence herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it gives a great concentration of red and black fruit preserves with a firm backbone of chewy tannins and an herbal lift to the finish."

What a way to start the year! Hartford finished 2016 with style nailing down Wine Spectator # 10 wine of the year award with their 2014 Old Vine Russian River Valley Zinfandel. Here we are still in the first quarter of 2017 and the top critics including both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker have already begun issuing phenomenal scores on the new releases which are due to land starting spring. The wines are consistently delicious year to year and with California coming off of multiple quality vintages in a row there is little wonder why we love this producer so much!

Hartford Family Winery began back in 1994 by Don and Jennifer Hartford. Since their inaugural release in 1996, Hartford has continued to produce wines with lots of personality and charisma. The single vineyard wines they produce range from as little as 90 to 800 cases and receive high accolades from the top wine critics. The Old Vine Zinfandel is produced from true old vines planted 80-100 years ago from some of California’s oldest Zinfandel vineyards.

WINE SPECTATOR 94 POINTS - "This is what Russian River Zinfandel is all about. Rich, dynamic and layered, with complex fruit, offering notes of jammy black raspberry, stony mineral, herbes de Provence and licorice. The finish unfurls at length. Drink now through 2026."

Jamieson Ranch Vineyards is the southernmost winery in the Napa Valley. The property's rolling hillsides and vineyards were formerly Part of General Mariano Vallejo's Rancho Suscol in the mid-1800's. Today, the ranching tradition continues with cattle grazing the hillsides, an apiary, and of course, prime vineyards. The soils are clay loam, which means the grapes will help give rich fruit profiles to the finished wine. Also, the excellent water drainage in the ground means smaller berries which helps to intensify color, aromas, and flavors. Combine this with the owners being good stewards of the land, along with the help of a fantastic winemaking, and you have some of the ingredients for producing amazing wine!

Most of the southern portion of the Napa Valley tends to be on the cool side, and prime location for grapes such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. But there are some warm pockets here-and-there where Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot thrive just as well as the rest of the valley. Jamieson Ranch sits in one of those pockets, and boy have they hit a home run with their Double Lariat Cabernet!

ROBERT PARKER 91 POINTS - "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Double Lariat displays plenty of sweet black cherry and cassis fruit, velvety, light tannins, medium to full body and an up-front, consumer-friendly style that begs for consumption over the next 7-10 years. This is no wimpy offering at 14.7% natural alcohol and may actually last far past a decade. It's a sleeper of the vintage and a reasonably good value from Napa."

Jean Marc Lafage who is unquestionably one of the best value producers in France, if not the world. You may recall his Syrah/Grenache blend Bastide Miraflors which was a customer favorite and one of our top wines of the year.

They have beautiful purity of fruit, impeccable balance and each release has their own unique character. At the prices, these are no-brainers."

The 2015 Narassa is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah sourced from old vines and combines the generosity of Grenache with the savory complexity inherent to Syrah. Narassa received a Wine Advocate score of 91-93 points and is a wine that definitely over delivers for the price-point.

WINE ADVOCATE 91-93 POINTS - "Notes of cassis, toasted spice, chocolate and licorice all emerge from the 2015 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lieu Dit La Narassa, which is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah brought up in demi-muids. This hedonistic, downright sexy, ripe and layered beauty will drink nicely right out of the gate. It’s packaged in an ungodly heavy bottle that could substitute for a baseball bat."

With a nose of dried fruits (cherries, raisins, currants and darker tree fruit) with ginger, vanilla and toasty oak The Macallan 18 invites you to imbibe. JOHN GILMAN 92+ POINTS-"The new release of Moutard Grande Cuvée is made from one hundred percent pinot noir and does not undergo malolactic fermentation, prior to being aged on its lees for three years prior to disgorgement. If my math is correct, the new bottling is based primarily on the 2010 vintage, and the wine offers up a simply superb bouquet of apple, a touch of quince, fresh-baked bread, incipient notes of almond skin, marvelously complex soil tones and a gently floral topnote. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, focused and still quite youthful, with a superb core of fruit, very refined mousse, excellent balance and fine grip on the very long and youthfully complex finish. This does not quite have the same early mid-palate generosity of last year’s version (based on 2009 fruit), and I would opt for giving it a year in the cellar to start to really hit on all cylinders. A stellar bottle of non-vintage Brut."

WINE ADVOCATE 90 P0INTS - "I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Moutard this year. The NV Brut Grande Cuvee (Pinot Noir) emerges from the glass with high-toned notes of Mirabelle plums, kirsch, crushed flowers and sweet herbs. There is an exotic quality to the Grande Cuvee that is totally beguiling. Intensely aromatic and layered through to the finish, the Grande Cuvee impresses for its delicate, feminine personality and overall balance. This release is based on the 2009 vintage with the addition of 30% reserve wines. Dosage was 10 grams per liter. Disgorged July 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015."

Moutard is a small, family-run estate located in Buxeuil, in the heart of the Cote des Bar (Department of the Aube) about sixty-five miles south of Epernay. The families of Champagne Moutard have been living in Buxeuil since the mid 17th Century, and have a long tradition of grape farming and Champagne production. The Cote des Bar's mix of clay and limestone soils is particularly well suited to Pinot Noir production and this Grand Cuvee makes perfect poster child for the area. It is a 100% Pint Noir blend that was vinified in stainless steel without malolactic in order to preserve its fruit character and cut.

The wines from Sicily have erupted with a focus on native varietals stealing the show. Grown in volcanic soils from the slopes of Mount Etna, there are few places on earth that so directly impart and communicate the essence of terroir. The 2014 Passopisciaro Passorosso is a perfect illustration of this and one of the greatest examples of Nerello Mascalese we have ever tasted. This is a wine of character, purity and remarkable texture, possessing layers upon layers of flavors which evolve in the glass. Vinous Media wine critic Ian D'Agata calls this wine "a knockout" with a "three dimensional mouthfeel."

D'Agata continues with the praise, "Owner Andrea Franchetti and his team turned in Sicily's (and one of Italy's) best wine performances of the year. Simply put, it's nearly impossible this year to pick a favorite red wine from Passopisciaro's many offerings, with one gorgeous, ageworthy wine after another made from the single contrada and a truly memorable Passorosso blend that strikes me as the best of them all. The 2014 vintage will long be remembered as one of Etna’s best ever, and Passopisciaro has created what look like truly epic wines."

Franchetti arrived on Mt. Etna in 2000 as one of the first of the modern wave of producers arriving on the volcano. He found seventy to one hundred year-old, bush-trained vines across the northern side of the volcano across a variety of optimal sites between 1,800 to 3,300 feet above sea level. The grapes are selected from several vineyards including Malpasso, Guardiola, Santo Spirito, Favazza and Arcuria. Generally, the higher crus are on a more gravelly soil with the lower ones in a deeper powder made with more oxidized, older lavas.

The expressive aromatics of this wine are impressive with purple flowers, deep red fruit, spice and unmistakable minerality derived from the volcanic soils. The wines are aged in large, neutral oak barrels and are unfiltered presenting an unadulterated interpretation of Nerello Mascalese. With age, Passorosso will gain exotic aromas of camphor, sandalwood, and spice.

Passorosso is a "can't miss" wine that is unique, wonderful and utterly delicious. Enjoy!

VINOUS MEDIA 97 POINTS - "Bright red-ruby. The captivating nose combines strawberry, raspberry, minerals, violet and flint aromas. Creamy-sweet but amazingly light on its feet, offering palate-staining, perfumed flavors of soft red berries, ripe red cherry, vanilla, aromatic herbs and crushed rock. Rich, ripe and suave, but displays a penetrating, saline and energetic quality that gives this beauty a three-dimensional mouthfeel and a light-on-its-feet quality. Finishes with great length and wonderfully polished tannins. Absolute knockout wine: from a memorable vintage on Etna, this is most likely the best Passorosso ever (in earlier vintages, it used to be called simply Passopisciaro). Mainly Nerello Mascalese."
