Dona Paula 2015 Malbec, Argentina

In a land which often offers excellent value, this Malbec stands out. Doña Paula's Estate Malbec offers tremendous value in a textbook Malbec with enticing aromatics and luscious dark fruit flavors in a wine that is smooth as silk. This beauty from Argentina garnered a 90 Point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, which noted it is "floral and aromatic" with "great freshness and poise." We agree wholeheartedly; this is a great everyday drinker.

We have previously featured Doña Paula as our Wine of the Month and you responded with great enthusiasm, grabbing cases of the little beauty. The quality-to-price ratio of this 2015 Estate Malbec is undeniable. The grapes are sourced from high altitude vineyards (3600-4400 feet above sea level) in the Uco Valley. Soils are a combination of sandy loam and stony gravel with high calcareous content. The grapes are farmed sustainably, hand-harvested and aged in a combination of new and used French Oak for 12 months.

This wine is very approachable and made in a terrific, crowd-pleasing style. This exceptional value would be enjoyable for your guests at get-togethers and a makes a great everyday house wine. Enjoy!

Intense violet color. On the nose, the aromas of black fruits, violets and spices are enticing. On the palate, blueberries, blackberries and notions of vanilla and baking spices abound. Great balance and freshness in the mouth, with good concentration and very soft tannins. This wine will pair well with red meat or drink deliciously on its own.

WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS - "The 2015 Malbec Estate is floral and aromatic, all about violets and blueberries, very much in line with the 2013, which offered great freshness and poise. It's not terribly complex, but it's extremely pleasant and balanced." Item #382492

Chaume-Arnaud 2014 Cotes Du Rhone Le Petit Coquest, France

Vinsobres was included in the Cotes-du-Rhone Villages appellation in 1957, but it was not until 2006 that it finally gained its own status as a standalone appellation. Situated northeast of Chateauneuf- du-Pape by some 45 km, Vinsobres is the northernmost appellation in the southern Cotes du Rhone. Nestled in the foothills on the northern flank of the giant Mount Ventoux, it is off the valley floor with vineyards as high as 400 meters above sea level. The hillside vineyards of Vinsobres are planted with Grenache and Mourvedre primarily where they like the more direct sun and protection from the Mistral winds, while Syrah is largely planted on the plateau above where higher elevation and the cool northern winds keep the freshness and spice that the grape can offer. The soils here are a mixture of sand and clay with limestone rocks on the hillsides while the plateau sees the vines rooted in very shallow soils over limestone.

Once inside the winery at Chaume-Arnaud, one thing visitors will notice is the absence of any wood barrels or vats. Here, all the wines are vinified in tanks. The results are wines that are pure, clean, and without makeup allowing their terroir and varietal to express themselves entirely.

There is a range of wines produced here, but the majority of the production is the Vinsobres rouge which is typically a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, and 10% Mourvedre. In addition, there are two wines under the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, “Petit Coquet”, which is 80% Grenache and 20% Cinsault from younger vines found below the hillside, and a wine simply labeled Côtes-du-Rhône that has 20% Cinsault and 20% Syrah along with Grenache from younger vines in the Vinsobres appellation. The two top wines of the estate are the “La Cadène” cuvées. The La Cadène rouge is equal parts Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah from the oldest and best plots of the estate. Production here varies depending on the vintage from a mere 3,000 bottles to as much as 9,000 in really extraordinary vintages. The La Cadène blanc is made from 50% Marsanne and 50% Viognier planted on the plateau. Item#345872

Patricius 2014 Dry Furmint, Hungary

The Patricius 2014 Dry Furmint is a racy dry white from Hungary's famous Tokaj (Tokay) region. On the nose there are aromas of apples, stone fruits and guava. The stone fruit flavors on the palate are nicely balanced by the crisp, dry finish. For centuries, Hungary has been home to some of the most sought after wines on earth. The luscious, late harvest, botrytized wines from the Tokaj area in north-eastern Hungary have been described as "the king of wines and wine of kings". The unique qualities of the dessert wines from Tokaj warranted the world's first appellation system - over 100 years before Bordeaux. The Patricius winery also makes dessert wines but their Dry Furmint (a distant relative of Chardonnay) gives you delicious fruit flavors without sweetness. Serve with fish, seafood, chicken, mild curries or sushi. Item #372345

Tua Rita is located in the small medieval town of Suvereto in Tuscany, on the coast south of Bolgheri. Grapes from this property made their way into iconic Sassicaia until Tua Rita commenced estate bottling and quickly captured the world’s attention with their Redigaffi and Giusti di Notri blends. Tua Rita has not looked back and continues to produce compelling wines.

Perlato del Bosco is delicious and compelling at the regular price, but at a savings of $7.00 per bottle, this one is a steal. When it’s gone, it’s gone!

This is a lovely wine with a savory and sophisticated take on Tuscany's most important red grape variety. You get an immediate sense of the depth and the generosity inherent to Sangiovese. The mouthfeel exhibits soft tannins, snappy acidity and a full palate of bright red berry flavors. The cherry and cassis definition is especially evident in this warm vintage expression."

Marques de Murrieta Finca Ygay 2012 Reserva, Spain

JAMES SUCKLING 95 POINTS - "Terrific aromas of currants, berries, cinnamon and perfume. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a dense palate. Superb length and refinement. Compact. Super length. Superb quality considering the price. More delicate and refined than the 2010. Precise. Drink or hold."

Zotovich 2014 Chardonnay “Zoto”, California

Winemaker NotesBecause of the different growing styles of the 3 clones used in our Estate Chardonnay, the picks were scattered from mid-August to mid-September. High in both minerality and acidity, this chardonnay is bright upfront, with a touch of lemon butter and brine, with a surprising weight to the mid-palate and an infinite finish. This wine spent 16 months in barrel before bottling. It was aged in 100% French oak barrels, 30% of which were new, predominately from the DAMY cooperage. Item #295760

Benoit Lehaya Blanc de Noris, Champagne, France

CHAMPAGNE GUIDE 95 POINTS - "Lahaye's aspiration here is richness and minerality and the wine delivers on both fronts empahatically. The power of the red fruits here is monumental, oozing with red cherries, red berry compote and fruit cake, accented with nutmeg and hints of cocoa. Such fleshy exhuberence commands structural support, which it offers abundantly in textured minerality, vibrant acid line and excellent lenght. This is a distinctive, characterful and beautifully crafted blanc de noirs that proclaims the exuberence of Bouzy without the heaviness that this village can sometimes exude." Item #352565
