Special Pricing
on the 97-100 Point 2007 “Insignia”!!!
The Insignia
bottling by Joseph Phelps has always been at
the top of the critic’s list since day one.
Moreover, it is a staple of any fine
restaurant or resort. It routinely receives
lofty scores, and the 2002 was even given
the honor of becoming Wine Spectator’s Top
Wine of the Year!
With the winery moving more
and more towards
sustainable farming,
the grapes become healthier, and the wine
goes from strength to strength! For 2007,
grapes came from estate vineyards up and
down the Napa Valley, and were fermented in
stainless steel tanks, then aged for 24
months in 100% new French oak barrels. This
is a very age worthy wine that seems to
always show well right out
of the gate. Robert
Parker scored this year’s release at 97-100
points, and stated, “I have the
Joseph Phelps regular Cabernets from the
mid-seventies as well as the Insignias in my
cellar, and those wines are still drinking
beautifully at 30+ years of age. Today’s
wines are better made.”

JOSEPH
PHELPS 2007 “INSIGNIA” NAPA VALLEY
PROPRIETARY RED
ROBERT PARKER 97-100 POINTS!
- “The 2007 Insignia (a
13,500-case blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon,
8% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot) offers a
seamless introduction to this flagship
cuvee. Its inky/purple color is followed by
aromas of creme de cassis, incense, crushed
rocks, lead pencil shavings, cedar, and
spice box. It possesses a massive, opulent
mouthfeel, serious tannins, and no hard
edges. This stunning effort should hit its
peak in 5-8 years, and last 40 years. I
would not be surprised to see it become the
greatest Insignia to date and close in on a
perfect score”

An Outstanding Red for Under Ten!!!
If you’re reading this newsletter, there’s a
good chance you’ve heard the buzz about
Argentina and the luscious Malbecs of
Mendoza. We’ve fallen hard for these wines,
but the with explosion of Argentine wines
we’ve tasted so many good ones, our
standards have grown higher and higher.
Forgive us, but sometimes we find ourselves
saying, “Meh, another tasty Malbec for ten
bucks, but where are we going to put it...?"
ANDELUNA MALBEC 2009 MENDOZA, ARGENTINA
This Andeluna Malbec is a real stand-out in
a category crowded with good wines and it
made our decision easy. Andeluna definitely
has that core of sumptuous and silky fruit
that is essential in a Malbec—long, richly
textured, yet enlivened by bright acidity
and lavish baking-spices. The flavor profile
is a pitch perfect balance between black
fruit and red fruit (for “black fruit” think
flavors like blackberry, mulberry and
currant; for “red fruit” think soft and
pretty Pinot-like flavors of raspberry,
strawberry and pomegranate). The Andeluna
Malbec is bold and beautiful enough to make
us fall in love again. Your teeth may be
black after enjoying a bottle, but we’re
sure you’ll be smiling.

Simply Superb!!!
Valdicava needs
little or no introduction so we’ll get right
to the point. Owner Vincenzo Abruzzese has
one again made one of the top Brunellos of
the vintage and his 2005 is packed with
Sangiovese goodness. It’s also at a
better-than-usual price, which makes it all
the more appealing. We were picky when
selecting our 2005s as only a few really hit
the mark and this is without doubt one of
them. As our customers who tasted the wine
at a pre-release tasting in April can
attest, this one is not to be missed. Simply
superb!
VALDICAVA
2005 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS
- "The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is a
brooding wine that flows with the essence of
smoke, tar, earthiness, wild cherries and
iron. This is one of most rich, concentrated
Brunellos of the vintage. Dark and
enveloping on the palate, this powerful,
virile Brunello closes with substantial
heft. It should age beautifully on the depth
of its fruit, but readers will enjoy a far
more complete drinking experience if the
wine is given at least few years in bottle
to shed some of its baby fat. Anticipated
maturity: 2012-2022."
