A long-term favorite of absinthe lovers, La Clandestine is hand-crafted in Couvet, Switzerland: the village where absinthe was born in the 1790s. Based on a 1935 recipe when absinthe was produced "underground" in Switzerland, La Clandestine is distilled by Claude-Alain Bugnon, the only distiller to win four Golden Spoons at the French Absinthiades, sometimes known as the "Absinthe Oscars." The terroir is very important for Claude-Alain: most of the plants used in La Clandestine grow locally in meadows in the foothills of the Alps. With a recipe made up of more than 10 plants, it has, at first nosing, a wonderful richness of aromas, followed by a lingering light bitterness. Its distiller prefers to drink it without adding sugar.

Corsair Red takes a traditional absinthe recipe and elaborates it further, macerating the botanicals for 24 hours, distilling and then steeping red Hibiscus for 24 hours to add lovely floral tones and sexy color. The smells are clean, creamy, bright, fresh and layered. Aromas of hyssop, (very) mild anise, dreamy flowers and plump fennel are so beautiful that I am afraid to be disappointed by the taste—but I am not. The flavors follow the nose elegantly and show more tarragon on the palate. The mouth feel is sylphlike and the finish lingers finely to a soft finale. This is utterly marvelous; try it with water or in a fun cocktail.

Introduced in 1605, Chartreuse is a full, complex and exquisitely unique treasure; it is sweet, herbal, spicy, earthy, deliciously sapid— all at same time. This naturally green liqueur derives its color and flavor from the 132 various plants that are used to make it. The aromas are so plentiful it would be unimaginable to capture all of them, but darn fun to try. The flavors are equally complex/elusive, but you can pick out basil, fennel, evergreen, verbena, cinnamon and hyssop; alas, those descriptions do not even begin to reveal the magic inside of the bottle. You just ‘must try’ this to believe it.

La Valote is the name for a community of Absinthe distillers in Val-de-Travers. The absinthe produced in the small town Môtiers, using traditional Swiss methods. Two former clandestine producers do now, what they did for years – only one thing has changed – they do it legally. Each one of them have their own, secret receipt, so each is distinctly different, but represents what others formerly described as the “holy grail” of Absinthe. La Valote still after many years, continues to stay focused on quality excellence in their production of fine absinthe rather than cheap imitation quantity.

Willy Bovets / Francis Martin's La Valote Absinthe has a nice fennel aroma in the beginning which is surrounded by the wormwood bouquet in the background. Anise is present but not dominant to create a pleasant balance of flavor. The entire absinthe louches evenly into a wonderful milky display.

Absinthe was the trademark drink during the heady days of 19th century Paris artists. Famous artists, writers and poets like Picasso, Baudelaire, Hemingway, Degas, Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec and Oscar Wilde all heavily indulged in it. Maybe it was the allure of "The Green Fairy", or maybe it helped inspire their creativy.

Absinthe has been banned in the United States since 1915 because of reports of strong hallucinations, however, has recently made its way back into the market. This Absente, or Absinthe Refined, is a modern version of the original Absinthe recipe. It still exhibits the same aromatic, dazzling emerald green liquer made from a combination of exotic botanicals. The difference comes in the Wormwood, the botanical that caused the initial ban, instead being replaced with a cousin called Southern Wormwood. The Absente is now a blend of Angelica, Anise, Peppermint, Southern Wormwood, and Star Anise, creating a wonderfully aromatic, flavourful liquer.

If you really want to capture the flavor, the color, and the very essence of a fresh, mountain grown blackberry, look no further than our Rocky Mountain Blackberry Liqueur. As with all of our liqueurs, Leopold Bros. uses only natural fruit for its liqueurs; no artificial flavors, colors, or additives. In fact, over four pounds of blackberries harvested from throughout the Rocky Mountains go into every bottle of our Rocky Mountain Blackberry liqueur.

We start by crushing, macerating, and straining those four pounds of blackberries. We then mix the resultant blackberry juice with our eau-de-vie. Finally, we take the extra step of resting the liqueur in small glass carboys to round the berry notes, and soften the finish. The result is a liqueur that jumps out of the glass, and explodes with unmatched flavor.

Amaretto Di Saronno is created from a recipe that is more than 500 years old. It is made using a combination of burnt sugar, alcohol, apricot kernel oil, and 17 herbs and spices. The result is a sweet, almond and apricot flavoured liquer perfect for mixing or drinking on the rocks.

Amaro Nonino is a digestif made by the Nonino company in Fruili, Italy. It is made from grappa infused with herbs, plus grain alcohol, and ingredients that include caramelized sugar, bitter orange, cinchona, galenga, gentian, liquorice, quassia wood, rhubarb, saffron, sweet orange and tamarind.Amaro Nonino is a reddish-amber colour and has a herby fragrance, with a mildly bitter spicy taste, with a touch of liquorice and sweet, burnt orange. The taste lasts in the mouth. It is aged in oak barrels for 5 years. Amaro Nonino is 35% alcohol. Amaro Nonino is a bit less syrupy than some other Italian bitters. It is best served straight up, slightly chilled, around 53 to 59 F (12 to 15 C.)

This amber nectar is a smooth blending of macerated, ripe Williams pears and cognac ("La poire Williams au Cognac") that makes it a perfect after-dinner liqueur either over ice or unadorned. Both the essences of the spirit and the fruit maintain their own characteristics despite the good marriage.

With much anticipation and great expectation Crème Yvette has finally arrived at Hi-Time! This liqueur was a vital and important component to many great recipes and with much coercing Rob Cooper (of St Germain notoriety) went into the family recipe and resurrected this wonderfully sexy and delicate libation; we have it— it is awesome, but it is limited.

In the glass it is the unbelievably beautiful color of Parma Violet. On the nose the first thing you notice is the Parma violets with intricate inviting aromas of spice and Herbes de Provence. The flavors show wild black, blue and red berries, supple spice, creamy vanilla and honey. This liqueur is elegantly structured and exceptionally executed with impeccable balance. The finish slips away with vanilla rich berry nuance and silky, clean flowers—unbelievably good.

Qi spirits is a new company based out of San Francisco. It is unusual for a new company to come out with such a bold and cutting edge spirit. Qi tea liqueur is made with cedar-smoked tea, spices, orange blossom honey, fruits and barrel-aged brandy added. The company has ties to St. George distillery which, if you’re not familiar with them, is the producer of Hangar One vodkas and numerous other spirits. The spirit is made in small handcrafted batches with only natural ingredients. This spirit has a sweet nose with loads of orange zest, allspice and huge smoke for a liqueur. The mouth feel and texture is close to Cognac and taste on the palate is dry and full of sweet tea, ginger and clove. The finish has huge cinnamon oil and green tea tones and just keeps going. A fun and different product for the coming holidays. Not to mention it is 80 proof.
