Watch out! Aberlour is on the move with the introduction of their latest concoction: the 16-year-old double wood. This whisky was aged in American Oak and also sherry barrels. This is not your typical Aberlour; this whisky is very rich in color but the nose and body are incredibly delicate compared to the rest Aberlour's lineup. As we're big fans of Aberlour already, something new and different from them is always welcome . The nose has delicate malted barley and cane sugar. On the palate there are notes of cereal, brown maple sugar, some dates and just a hint of peat. The finish is delicate with sherry, peat and pine. If you like delicate whiskies check this one out.

Produced at the legendary Knockdhu distillery... anCnoc is a knock out of a single malt and goes for a delightful price. It leads with vibrant aromas of citrus fruit, sweet grass, casaba melon, toasty oak and delicate implications of vanilla. The flavors follow suit and evolve to include honey, nutty barley, clean spices and sumptuous treacle. The finish is spectacular with a lingering demonstration of soft lively spice and elegant grains that flawlessly set you up for another tasty sip. Try this neat or with a splash of water.

Nose Astoundingly smoky, yet delicate with subtle tarry notes behind. With water the smoke dies a little and raisin and caramelised apple notes emerge. Palate An immediate waft of peat smoke. Full, robustly flavoured with turf and lapsang souchong tea. Finish Salty, long and filled with fragrant peat reek. Comment A punch in the chops from a stroppy Islay middleweight. There is a dark place on Islay, high above the Ardbeg Distillery, called Airigh Nam Beist (pronounced 'arry-nam-bayst') which in Gaelic means 'shelter of the beast'. No more fitting name could have been bestowed on such an eerie place; this is where - legend has it - something other-worldly lurks, lying in wait. So what measures can be taken to protect local and visitor alike? If you find yourself straying this way, then pray equip yourself with that traditionally reliable antidote to sheer terror - the stiff drink. A travelling man could ask for no better protection than a hip flask full of the strong stuff, namely Ardbeg's Airigh Nam Beist. For it's truly a wee beastie of a dram. It is made up entirely of stock from 1990 distillate and is a limited expression. Due to its greater age, it has a softer, more rounded flavor than the Ardbeg 10 year old . It shows a creamy, smoky flavor with hints of fennel and pine nuts. Aged in ex-bourbon oak barrels. 46% ABV and non chill-filtered.

Balblair only bottles vintage whiskies; they are hand selected after they have reached the exact point of ‘optimum maturation’ to represent the absolute best whisky the distillery has to offer. The nose is luscious— filled with strawberries, vanilla ice cream, orange sherbert, lemon candy and glazed donuts. The taste is a total surprise. Tastes of orange, grapefruit, tight malt and complex well integrated spices are woven together in a tapestry of wonderful flavors. The fresh, clean finish is pleasant and interlaced. This unique and distinguished malt introduces smoke to Speyside using aging casks. The Distillery bought heavily peated barley in 2001 and made it into spirit. David Stewart mixed this spirit with traditionally aged 17 year old Balvenie and finished it in new American Oak casks. The two finished liquors were then mixed in traditional oak. On the palate the peat appears in the mouth as toasted bread, not smokey and iodine like, but what you would expect from a Big Islay Malt.

Nose: Very aromatic and balanced sherry fruits. Raisins. Hints of water-melon, white pepper. Honey and oak.
Palate: Great depth and balance, again. Quite full-bodied, slightly oily and a great many flavours unfolding.

A cask strength (47.3%) 30 year old Balvenie. A Gold Medal Winner at the 2004 Int'l Spirits Challenge too. Arthur and Neil have both tried this and were very impressed. Nose: Dry and ash-like: cedar, cigar ash, charred. Softens, showing honeycomb, candied peel, acacia, honey, kumquat, orange pekoe tea, powdered ginger. Palate: Soft, unctuous feel. Cream, orange peel, that cigar box note again, hint of nut. Fine grained tannin. great balance with depth and texture. Finish: Soft and gentle, fades discreetly. Comment: Fantastic length. A truly three-dimensional malt.

BENRIACH 10YR CURIOSITAS 92PF PEATED MALT
Curiositas uses a heavily peated malted barley as the cereal varietal to produce a unique, fresh, peated expression. This rare peated single malt, from the Heartland of Speyside, has wonderful overtones of peat reek, combined cleverly with a background of fruity, floral, heathery notes and an appealing presence of oak wood in the finish. Traditionalists believe that peated malts achieve optimum balance of peat-bittersweet and oak infusion, after 10 years of maturation. In fact peated BenRiach is a return to the original Speyside character and flavour of malts typical of the nineteenth century. Curiositas is a distinctive and welcome addition to the Speyside scene – this is a dram to be savoured with a dash of water.
