From one on Dönnhoff’s newest vineyard acquisitions, this wine turned some heads with its juxtaposition of rocks, chalk and lime with sundry red fruits and berries. This wine can only get better as Dönnhoff gets to better know and understand this terroir. A terrific first effort.

WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "Donnhoff’s 2006 Kreuznacher Krotenpfuhl Riesling Spatlese smells of pear, yellow cherry and honeysuckle. With luscious, honeyed richness and textural plushness, yet bright fresh fruit, invigorating salinity and mineral pungency, and terrific penetration, this kaleidoscopically dynamic wine could keep you occupied for a long time. I would anticipate up to two decades cellaring."

WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "The 2006 Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spatlese delivers luscious, juicy ripe poached peach and red raspberries dusted with brown spices and pepper. Intense and faintly sweet-tart in character at this youthful stage, it lacks the clarity or levity of the Kirschheck, but certainly not the sheer length, which is saltier, smokier, sappier, spicier, and altogether more insistent. Not that this needs to try too hard to convince me either to take the next sip, or to revisit another bottle in a few years. It should have a good 15 years in it....."

From one of Dönnhoff’s most beloved terroirs, this wine has to be tasted to be believed. The wine’s gorgeous assemblage of mixed red fruits is offset by wonderfully rendered layers of mixed tropical and orchard stone fruits. Simply delicious! (Tanzer 93)

From the legendary producer whom many consider to be the Nahe's best, comes this Estate Riesling from the outstanding 2007 vintage. When we were offered this last small quantity by the importer, we knew we had to jump on it, because, as you should be aware, the 'Estate Riesling' from a top-notch producer in a great vintage is often one of the best value propositions Germany has to offer. This one offers bittersweet herbal, citrus zest, and berry flavors in a surprisingly creamy yet refreshing medium. Almost needless to say about this cuvee, the balance of sweetness is impeccable and the residual sugar barely noticeable. A great effort from the legendary Helmut Dönnhoff.

Karthauserhof 2009 Schieferkristall Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer

This "medium-dry" (halbtrocken or feinherb) Riesling from the excellent 2009 vintage has a perfumed nose featuring citrus and pear notes. On the palate there are wonderful spiced apple, kumquat and pear flavors balanced by crisp minerality on the finish. Perfect on a hot afternoon with appetizers or serve with chicken, fish, seafood and pasta with white sauce. Located in Eitelsbach in the Ruwer valley, wine has been made at Karthauserhof since Roman times. The Carthusian monks made wine at the estate from 1335 to 1803. Christopher Tyrell runs the winery today. He was selected Producer of the Year in 2005 by Gault Millau. His ancestors purchased the estate from Napoleon in 1811. Only two cases available.
