but at this stage I might have to give a slight edge to the 2007. It is a little lower in alcohol 14.1% and is a little more red fruited (think cherries rather than berries) with the usual bright acidity and long finish. A sophisticated zinfandel rather than a jam-in-a-jar brute. Plenty of flavor, plenty of structure, plenty of pleasure. It should have a long life ahead of it. 657 cases bottled."

This is owner/winemaker Larry Schaffer's third release of this ‘dryish’ Gewurztraminer using fruit from a vineyard up in Los Alamos, about 15 miles north of Los Olivos. The vineyard Read More...
sits in an area that gets cool nights and warm days. The cool nights allow the grapes to retain their natural acidity better, and the warm days allow the grapes to ripen nicely.
The 2010 vintage was marked by decent rains in the spring but a very long, cool summer. Ripening happened much slower than usual, and the clusters of Gewurztraminer were quite tiny, leading to truly concentrated flavors. The wine was aged in both stainless steel and a neutral oak barrel. This wine actually has about 1% residual sugar (about 10 grams per liter), making it ‘dry’ in most circles. It also has about 7 grams of acid per liter, which balances the sweetness and gives the wine the ability to be consumed on its own without being cloying.
Only 125 cases were produced, and this is a wine that pairs perfectly with spicy foods (Thai, Indian, sushi, Chinese . . . even a Buffalo Chicken Salad!) but is versatile enough to pair with lavendar Creme Brulee as well.

is bottled. The grapes are harvested then each varietal is separately fermented and barrel aged for 18 months. Doing this develops more complexity in each varietal and also allows for the very best blend to be assembled. The blend for this vintage is 53% Zinfandel, 35% Carignane, 6% Alicante Bouschet, 5% Petite Sirah, and 1% Black Malvasia.
The Zinfandel and Carignane come from the Johnson’s vineyard in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County. The fruit ripens at lower brix giving the blend red fruit high tones, bright acidity, and structure. The remaining fruit is grown by Dan Gonsalves in Oakley, Contra Costa County. This fruit gives the wine its dark fruit aromatics and much of its silky mouth feel and body.

What?? A Cabernet from Turley? Yup, come and get it while you can! The story is that Larry Turley once told Robert Parker (Maybe 20 years ago), he would NEVER put the name Cabernet Read More...
on one of his labels, even though some of the winery’s vineyards lie on Howell Mountain. About 5 years ago Larry acquired a vineyard that use to supply Frog’s Leap with Cabernet. His initial intention was to graft it over to Zinfandel, but after spending some money and time cleaning up the vineyard he realized it just might make some pretty solid wine. Yeah…and Picasso was a decent artist! So, we’re proud to offer Turley’s first venture into Cabernet called “The Label”, an homage to what was once said to Mr. Parker. This is a very dark, opaque-colored wine with a nose of black currant, black cherry and vanilla-laced oak. On the palate, the flavors turn from black to red fruits, such as raspberries, cherries, red currants. Hedonistic, juicy, fleshy and with fine-grained tannins, this is a great Cabernet for fans of Turley’s Zinfandels!
