May Taster's Advantage Gold Selection 1

Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon “The Expedition” Horse Heaven Hills, Washington - Although Canoe Ridge’s winery is located in Walla Walla, the grapes for their Expedition Cab. are sourced from an estate vineyard planted in 1989 in the Horse Heaven Hills region along Washington's southern border. This area’s latitude and the south and north-facing orientation of the vineyards help the vines soak up more than 17 hours of sunshine per day at the peak of summer. The sunshine and the vineyard’s well-drained soils, cool nights and low rainfall (about 6-8" annually) translate to excellent concentration in the grapes resulting in rich, fully mature flavors and supple tannins. This Cabernet has a dark garnet color and an enticing nose of currants, raspberries, vanilla, sweet oak, and violets. In the mouth you find fresh red berries, cherries, and smoky plum flavors. This is a very easy drinking Cabernet with polished tannins on the velvety finish. Item # 209910.

Viña Real 2009 Crianza, Rioja, Spain - The Viña Real Winery (a project of the Compañía Vincola del Norte de España or CVNE) is located on a hill top in the Rioja Alavesa appellation. Viña Real combines more than 125 years of tradition and expertise with the most innovative winemaking methods and modern facility. The Viña Real style is one that showcases the forward fruit of Alavesa while simultaneously possessing the structure to age gracefully. This 2009 Crianza (aged one year in French and American oak) is composed of 90% Tempranillo with the remaining 10% a mixture of Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo. Robert Parker gave this wine 91 points in his Wine Advocate: “Exceptionally ripe with a dark ruby/purple color, excellent texture, and outstanding concentration, length and equilibrium, this is one of the finest value-priced Riojas in the marketplace. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years." This elegant red is drinking well now; enjoy it this summer with lamb or beef dishes. Item # 381222.

Bishop’s Peak 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, Talley Vineyards, Edna Valley - The Talley family started farming vegetables in southern San Luis Obispo County in 1948. In the 1970s they began planting grape vines on the steep hillsides above Talley Farms. They produce award-winning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir under the Talley Vineyard label. Their Bishop’s Peak wines are handcrafted by Talley to capture the unique diversity of the greater Central Coast region (although all the grapes for this Sauvignon Blacn were grown by the Talley family in the Edna Valley). The 2012 vintage was ideal with slightly below average rainfall, moderate canopy growth and very little mildew or botrytis. This Sauvignon Blanc has vibrant aromas of lime and grapefruit zest, casaba melon and hints of fresh herbs. The mid-palate has bright citrus flavors of lemon, lime, and grapefruit,  with a distinct, underlying minerality. It finishes dry and is a perfect complement to raw oysters and other light seafood fare. Item # 202690.

May Taster's Advantage Platinum Selection 1

Siduri 2011 Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands - Siduri is named for the Babylonian Goddess of wine, who, in Babylonian mythology, held the wine of eternal life. Siduri produces single vineyard Pinot Noir from 27 different vineyards stretching from Santa Barbara north to Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Antonio Galloni, when he was with the Wine Advocate, tasted the final blend of the Santa Lucia Highlands wine from barrel. Here is his description: “The 2011 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) comes across as fleshy, open and accessible. It is an undeniably attractive entry-level wine to drink over the next few years. Dark red cherries, flowers and menthol wrap around the finish. In 2011, the blend is 27% Sierra Mar, 25% Rosella’s, 18% Pisoni, 18% Soberanes and 12% Garys’. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.” Enjoy this Pinot with poached or grilled salmon, roast chicken and vegetarian dishes. Item # 261300.

Neal 2010 Zinfandel, Rutherford, Napa Valley - Mark Neal is well known for his Cabernet Sauvignon but he also makes a little Zinfandel blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah (Durif). The grapes for this Zinfandel come from Mark’s Rutherford Dust Vineyard. This vineyard is 100% certified organic by CCOF and USDA. The brambly fruit – raspberry and cherry – along with the dusty texture are apparent from the first aromas. This vintage shows that Rutherford Dust character: mild tannins and a mouthfeel suggesting cocoa powder. The flavors echo the fruit aromas along with slightly spicy tea-like nuances. This Zin is rich and structured in the mouth with a hint of spice on the finish. It is unmistakably Zinfandel from the Rutherford area of Napa Valley. Enjoy this red with barbecued beef, grilled sausages or a pot of chili. Item #246870.

Walter Hansel 2010 Chardonnay, The Meadows Vineyard, Russian River Valley - The Wine Advocate gave this lovely Chardonnay 92 points: “Bright floral aromatics lead to white and yellow orchard fruit, spices and crushed rocks in the 2010 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard. In 2010, The Meadows speaks to class and elegance. There is a pointed, focused quality to the finish that is particularly attractive. The Meadows is a fabulous value in Russian River Chardonnay. In 2010 Hansel bottled the Meadows separately for the first time. Previously, this fruit had gone into the Estate Chardonnay. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Stylistically, the Hansel Chardonnays show the richness from stirring of the lees and the use of 40-60% new oak.” Serve this elegant white with fish, seafood and chicken dishes. Item #228350.

Neal 2010 Zinfandel, Rutherford, Napa Valley - Mark Neal is well known for his Cabernet Sauvignon but he also makes a little Zinfandel blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah (Durif). Champagne Selection No More Than $44.95

1 Bottle of Champagne
(tax & shipping not included)

The Champagne Selection is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We will showcase artisinal discoveries in French Champagne.

May Taster's Advantage Champagne Selection

Daniel Etienne Brut NV Rosé 1er Cru - One of the big pluses of summer is the pleasure of outdoor dining. Of course, there are many types of wine that work well out on the patio. For us, however, nothing quite matches the magic of well-crafted rosé Champagne. A case in point is this stunning discovery from Daniel Etienne. The Etienne family has been tilling the soil above the tiny Premier Cru hamlet of Cumières for many generations. Cumières is situated on the Marne River a few miles northeast of Épernay. Its gentle slopes, which are overlooked by the Bois de St.-Marc and the ridge of Hautvillers to the north, enjoy a beneficial southern and southeasterly exposure. Today Daniel and Brigitte farm some 18 acres of vines practicing “culture raisonnée”- using chemical treatments only as last resort. Their brut rosé is a blend of estate grown fruit from the 2007 and 2006 harvests. It was bottled in early 2008 and was disgorged in August 2012 with a light dosage of six grams per liter. This pale salmon bubbly commences with pleasing scents of summer berries joined with hints of rose petals and watermelon. While predominately composed of Pinot Noir, the Chardonnay component (25%) keeps this rosé light-footed and lively as it proffers zingy cherry and cranberry flavors modulated by yeast and toast notes and haunting mineral tones. A charmer from start to finish that is definitely priced right. Item #376331.
