Bodegas Atteca 2013 Atteca, Spain

ANTONIO GALLONI 91 POINTS - "Dark purple. Ripe cherry and blueberry aromas are energized by a spicy note, picking up suggestions of candied flowers and vanilla with aeration. Round and pliant in the mouth, offering ripe red and dark berry liqueur flavors with a hint of spicecake. A seamless, clinging finish features harmonious tannins, building sweetness and repeating spicy and floral flourishes. All of the fruit that would normally go into the estate's top-end Aromas bottling was blended into this this wine, which received 25% new French oak aging." Item #381943

Zuccardi “Q” 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Argentina

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS - "Dark yet silky, this ripe, floral red matches a core of dark cassis and creamy cherry puree notes to nuances of spice box, dark tobacco and mesquite. Drink now through 2018. 7,500 cases made."

Sebastian Zuccardi grew up in a family of strong visionaries filled with innovative spirit. Since 1963, when his grandfather, Alberto Zuccardi, an engineer, planted the first acre of vines in Maipu, Mendoza, Argentina, Familia Zuccardi has continued growing and developing-- positioning itself as an important benchmark for Argentina's winemaking industry. From his father, José Alberto Zuccardi, Sebastian inherited the determination and desire for lifelong pursuit of excellence. Nowadays Sebastian, third generation of the family, is working in front of a young agricultural and winemaking team, responsible for producing wines with the highest standards of quality in the Uco Valley.

And they are doing excellent work-- this Cab from Uco Valley is a prime example of how good and reasonably priced the wines can be from great Argentinian vineyards and terroir. The nose is full of fruits and spices with cherries and red plum in the foreground, bolstered by spicy wood and incense, sandalwood, leading to cherry cola and an enchanting mix of vanilla bean and floral perfume.

The palate continues with the fresh, sweet fruits: more ripe cherry and red plum, uplifted by both lush tannins and a good level of acidity, lead to a layer of earthiness and minerality, sweet spicebox and cedar wood. With a regular price of about $17, drinking more like a $20+ bottle, at just under $12-- this is a steal. Whether you have a prime cut of beef looking for a dance partner or it's a backyard barbecue and poolside soiree, this wine will fit the bill and please the palate. Item #380538

Valerie’s Vineyard 2013 Pinot Noir, California

6th STRAIGHT YEAR OF SCORING 90 POINTS OR ABOVE PINOT REPORT 91 POINTS - "Medium ruby color; deep nose of black cherry and raspberry with floral and spice notes; full flavor of black cherry with spicy oak notes; seamless tannins; good structure and balance; long finish. Velvety, dark Pinot with some deep flavors."

TASTING PANEL 90 POINTS - "Smooth and juicy with ripe cherry and raspberry fruit; silky and bright with lively acidity and clean, long flavors."

The 11th vintage, the 2013 Valerie's Vineyard Pinot Noir may be the best ever! Valerie's terroir driven one-acre Carneros vineyard has come of age and we think that vintage to vintage this one is another winner, very Burgundian. The California drought has somewhat spared us, we were able to keep the right amount of water on the vines and the added stress has created a complex wine. The winemaking attention to detail in the vineyard has never been better. We had solid success with the 2012 in New York and locally and we received some great press including 90 scores in some top publications. Like every vintage, the 2012 is now sold out.

The 2013 extols a rich velvety mouth-feel and well balanced fruit, oak and tannins. The cherry/plum flavors blend with traditional Burgundian nuisances such as cola and tea. The French oak program of new and two-year old French oak from numerous makers has created a unique flavor profile and aging regimen. The wine lives no less than 18 months in the oak. Winemaker Jeff McBride and the bio-dynamic practices of Valerie's new winemaking home at Benzinger Family Winery fit our farming practices and style perfectly.

There were 93 cases produced of 2013. Get this while you can from fine restaurants in Sonoma Valley including Della Santina, Saddles, The Wine Shack, Carneros Bistro plus Broadway Market. Plumpjack Squaw Valley and the Hobbit Restaurant in Orange California carry it as well. Ice Bucket Selections in New York is doing great work and has placed the wine at Astor Wine Shop, Bar Bouud, Print and P.D. o'Hurley's West End. Visit us at www.valeriesvineyard.com Item #200014

Jean David 2013 Cotes Du Rhone, France

"The problem with Jean David's wines is that they are far more sophisticated than their price would lead on. What one expects out of the typical Côtes du Rhône appellation wine is a wine that tries to be a little more than it is, in terms of extraction and ripeness -this wine couldn't be further from that style. The secret to this wine's ethereal complexity is that it is all Seguret fruit from Jean's vineyards that are less than 50-years-old. So, what the heck does Seguret taste and smell like?

Like many great wines, this wine needs a ten minute warmup, but after that it starts to surround your nose with kisses of sweet red flowers, cranberries, red currants, pastry spices and fresh mission figs. The palate takes on the seriousness of this wine showing that it is not a mere Côtes du Rhône, but a wine finely-tuned with fresh acidity and polished but refreshing tannins.

Terroir: The combination of sandy-loam and limestone soils gives this wine tremendous lift and great structure without gifting it too much in body. Sand always seems to impart high and spirited aromas in wine. The aromatic and structured grapes, Grenache (55%) and Carignan (20%, one of my favorite underrated grapes) lead the charge, supported by Syrah (10%), Counoise (10%) and Mourvedre (5%).

All of Jean David's wines are vinified and raised in concrete tanks with a miminum of Sulfur added. He has been organically farming since 1979." TheSourceimports.com Item #345389

Marguet Extra Brut 10 Elements Grand Cru, Champagne, France

PETER LEIM 1 1/2 STARS - "This is the inaugural release of Marguet’s new non-vintage cuvée, composed of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. It’s based on the 2010 vintage (which is what the ’10’ in the name refers to), with about a third of the blend made up of reserve wines from 2004 to 2009. This was before Marguet converted his production entirely to organics, yet it still shows a remarkable liveliness and energy, its ripe fruit flavors feeling sculpted and sleek. At 3 g/l of dosage, its balance is ideal, allowing the aromas to persist with fine fragrance and length.” Item #378504
