April Taster's Advantage

Gold Selection Plan 1 $24.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 1 is for red wine lovers: two tasty selections from California or Around the World.

SAN FELICE 2011 CONTRADA TOSCANA, TUSCANY, ITALY - This wine is created for Palio di Siena, a horse race that takes place twice a year as part of a huge summer festival in the Piazza del Campo, in Siena, Tuscany, one of Europe's greatest midevil squares. A thick layer of dirt is laid, covering the cobblestones in the center of the piazza, the riders are bareback, circling the crowd that form the inner ring of the track, and the winning rider and horse both are invited to the Vatican, and blessed by the pope. (If a rider is thrown off during the race, the horse may continue, and would be declared winner if it were to finish first!) The wine is of "Super Tuscan" varieties, merlot/sangiovese/cab, created by renouned Tuscan producer San Felice, it is served at banquets throughout the festival. Item # 301040

CASAS DEL BOSQUE 2012 PINOT NOIR RESERVE - Casas del Bosque is located 70 km from Santiago, the capital of Chile, and 30 km from one of the principal ports of Chile, Valparaiso. It was established in 1993 to be a family boutique winery exclusively oriented to the production of high quality wines. Casas del Bosque has its own vineyards in the Casablanca Valley, the preferred place for premium wine production. Their philosophy is about excellence, in terms of the wine they make, the care they take with their terroir and environment around them and the people they bring aboard the team-- and the proof is in the bottle. This reserva has a nose full of bright red fruits, baking spices, a touch of earth and cola berry. The palate leads with sweet cherry fruit, mixed earthy and savory spices and minerality, cedar wood, vanilla cola. There is ample acidity throughout this very balanced, almost Burgundian, drinks-way-beyond-its-price-point wine. Item # 383010

Gold Selection Plan 2 $24.95

1 Bottle of red wine and 1 bottle of white wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 2 is for those who like it red.... and white! A solid two-pack selection.

BISHOP'S PEAK 2012 PINOT NOIR SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY - For three generations the Talley family has farmed in the Southern San Luis Obispo County. The tradition began in 1948 when Oliver Talley founded Talley Farms and started growing specialty vegetables in the Arroyo Grande Valley. During the 1970s extensive planting of wine grapes began in the neighboring Edna Valley and Santa Barbara County areas. After observation and extensive analysis, Oliver's son, Don Talley, was convinced of the potential to grow high quality chardonnay and pinot noir on the steep hillsides above Talley Farms. In the fall of 1991, a state-of-the-art winery was completed at the foot of the Rincon Vineyard. A 12,000 square foot barrel and case goods storage building was added in 2000, followed by a new tasting room in 2002.

The 2012 vintage was one of those rare years where both quality and yield were exceptional, probably the best overall since 2005. Despite its modest price, it is still hand sorted and spends time in French oak for 10 months. It is a lovely crystalline ruby color, and offers heady aromas of cherry, strawberry shortcake, raspberry, vanilla, and cola. It finishes with good texture and a bit of earth, this is a big yet not overpowering wine. Enjoy this with pork tenderloin. Item #202640

VERMENTINO 2012 MANCINI, VERMENTINO DI GALLURA - A Peninisula just off the east coast of the beautiful island of Sardegna lies the Gallura a region known to grow the best Vermentino in all of Italy. The vineyards of Mancini are exposed to the cool air of the coast and produces a delicious, peachy, nectarine and citrus driven delicate wine that is all too easy to enjoy on a warm sunny day...much like they do all year long in Gallura. This is a very fresh and forward, with no oak or malolactic fermentation. Done in stainless steel for the aromas…Pale yellow with hints of peach, tangerine and herbs. Very clean nice bright acidy leaving you with good length. Item #303157

Platinum Selection Plan 1 $49.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 1 features two bold reds which will surely satisfy any wine lover. We include top wines from prestigious wine growing regions.

BON ANNO 2011 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY - The 2011 BonAnno Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was sourced from several prime valley floor vineyards from within the Rutherford bench, Oakville, St. Helena, and Oak Knoll districts. Owner/Winemaker Matt Bonanno works closely with several vineyard managers throughout the Napa Valley to ensure the quality of his fruit and maximize the potential for each vintage.

A deep ruby red, this seductive Cab shows classic Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of spice and sage followed by a mix of blueberries and blackberries with fresh raspberry notes. With a nice balance of acid and well integrated tannins, this wine is smooth, supple and sleek in the mouth: it is well balanced across the palate showcasing flavors of dark fruit, currants and hints of mineral and anise. Item #204590

ARGENTIERA 2011 POGGIO AI GINEPRI BOLGHERI, ITALY - The Tenuta’s owners have always paid special attention to this fascinating place by exalting, in every possible way, the nature of a land that is strongly dedicated to the production of excellent red wines. 75 of the estate’s 500 hectares are planted with specialized vineyards, all falling into the DOC Bolgheri [Registered Designation of Origin] Bolgheri and IGT Toscana appellation with a total production of about 500.000 bottles. Within the DOC Bolgheri area, Tenuta Argentiera is the closest estate to the sea and the one that reaches the highest altitude, spreading from the plains to the hills. Its vineyards are completely surrounded by luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation, and the countryside where the Tenuta is situated is circumscribed by avenues of secular maritime pines and olive groves, in a charming and richly-scented landscape. This varied land is cultivated with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, which are extremely typical, superb quality vines of the Bolgheri area.

JAMES SUCKLING 91 POINTS - "Blend: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Intense and deep red color. On the nose intense and fresh with flowery aromas of violets and balsamic hints combined to red fruit like cherries, plums and blackberries. The palate is round, complex with ripe and sweet tannins. Nice fruity aftertaste with good acidity, which offers a long, lingering and fresh finish." Item #303963

Platinum Selection Plan 2 $49.95

1 Bottle of red wine and 1 bottle of white wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 2 is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We showcase two outstanding bottles, one white and one red from world-class vintners.

BUIL & GINE 2009 " BABOIX" MONTSANT-FALSET, SPAIN - WINE & SPIRITS 95 POINTS - "This youthful Montsant has the intensity of a wild teenager. The fruit is powerfully red even as aggressive tannins seize the palate, needing at least five years in the bottle before it all might settle down. The payoff will be to bask in its vibrant fruit and complexity. A blend based on old vine garnacha and cariñena, alon with merlot, tempranillo and cabernet, Baboix comes from a vineyard on decomposed granite in Falset."

In the holy pantheon of Spanish red wines, the big, full-bodied wines of Priorat can contend only with Rioja and Ribera del Duero for excellence and prestige. A historical appellation dating back to the 12th Century, Priorat, or “priory,” takes its name from the Carthusian Monastery of Scala Dei founded in 1194 to commemorate the spot where, legend has it, a shepherd had a beatific vision of angels ascending a stairway to heaven. Buil & Gine, a family domaine founded in 1996, has quickly risen to preeminence in the appellation, and is widely considered one of the best young producers in Priorat. ITEM #382900

CASA SILVA 2012 SAUVIGNON BLANC "COOL COAST" COLCHAGUA VALLEY, CHILE - Viña Casa Silva began in 1997 in pursuit of a long-held dream of sharing the family’s love and affection for its land in the Colchagua Valley in a bottle of wine. Emilio Bouchon was the first to arrive in Chile from St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France, in 1892, and his family has been making wine there ever since. They were pioneers in the Colchagua Valley, although it was not until 1997 that Mario Pablo Silva, the oldest son of the fifth generation, and his father, Mario Silva, shared the dream of making wines under their own label. He dedicated much of his life to recovering the old vineyards and wine cellar and had acquired a unique understanding of the terroir in the Colchagua Valley. His other sons Francisco, Gonzalo, and Raimundo joined soon thereafter and contributed to the development of Viña Casa Silva. And so began the new family winery and the process of modernizing all of the activities that took place within it. Today Viña Casa Silva is the most award-winning Chilean winery in the 21st century.

WINE & SPIRITS 90 POINTS - "The warmth of the '12 harvest emphasized structure over aroma in sauvignon from Chile's far coast. This latest release of Cool Coast is a broad white, full of concentrated, ripe citrus flavors." All you need now is a nice grilled fish! ITEM #382450

Champagne Selection No More Than $44.95

1 Bottle of Champagne
(tax & shipping not included)

The Champagne Selection is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We will showcase artisinal discoveries in French Champagne.

ANDRE CLOUET BRUT ROSE GRAND CRU - The Clouet family has a history of accomplishment in the region of Champagne. The family owns 8 hectares of vines in preferred mid-slope vineyards in grand Crus Bouzy and Ambonnay, and has excelled as a pinot noir specialist even within Bouzy, an appellation specifically celebrated for the quality of its pinot noir. The wines are cellared under the family's 17th century village house – built by an ancestor who acted as printer to Louis XV's royal court at Versailles! Respect for terroir is evident in these traditionally-crafted wines, offering an expansive, historically-reflective expression of the appellation. The labels are attractively old-fashioned in design but visually vibrant, appropriate for the descendants of a notable printer. Clouet Champagnes are rich, concentrated expressions of pinot noir that manage to retain elegance and finesse... every Champagne lover needs to try these outstanding wines.

THE CHAMPAGNE GUIDE 95 POINTS -"'I say 10% of the blend is from my blood!' declares Jean-Francois Clouet, who has changed the style of his family's rose to a fresher and more direct mood, not so soft, aiming for the lively impression of malic acidity, even though it goes through full malolactic fermentation. The result is arose that epitomises elegance and focus, in the midst of generous red fruits that characterise Bouzy and Ambonnay. This cuvee encapsulates the wonderful talent of Pinot Noir to build and rise on the finish, opening to wonderful characters of perfumed rosehip, pink pepper and pomegrate. An undercurrent of fine, chalk mineral texture, accurate line and persevering length define a pristine and enticingly priced rose.
