Gold Selection Plan 1 $24.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 1 is for red wine lovers: two tasty selections from California or Around the World.

ATALAYA 2013 LAYA, SPAIN - Bodegas Atalaya was founded in 2007 by the Gil Family of Jumilla. The prominent grape variety in Almansa is Garnacha Tintorera –Alicante Bouschet- along with Monastrell. The La Atalaya is 85% Garnacha Tintorera and 15% Monastrell planted around 1000 metres -3280 feet- above sea level and aged for 12 months in French oak. It sports a glass coated with glycerin as well as a super-fragrant nose of exotic spices, lavender, incense, and black raspberry. Succulent, layered, and totally pleasure-bent, this plush offering has a smooth-as-silk finish totally unexpected from a wine of this humble price. It is an amazing value in unrestrained hedonism. Pairs nicely with rice, pasta, (noodles, spaghetti, macaroni), vegetables, mushroom, stewed meat, sausage, pork, roast meat, red and/or white meat with sauces, grilled meat, short or medium cheeses. GUERRIERI GONZAGA TENUTA SAN LEONARDO 2009 "TERRE DI SAN LEONARDO" - TRENTINO, ITALY - The history of the San Leonardo estate weaves across the centuries with tales of courtly marriages, knights and noble lords, medieval warfare, monastic seclusion, trade in exotic silks and more. In AD 588 the Principessa Teodolinda, daughter of the King of Bavaria married Autari, King of the Lombards within the walls of the property-- one of many such stories. Winemaking has always been part of San Leonardo from the beginning, but Bordeaux-style wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon have been the obsession of owner Marchese Carlo Geurrieri Gonzaga for the last fifty years. Is there such a thing as an “old-school” Bordeaux-blend from the Italian Alps? The estate’s flagship, simply called San Leonardo, has made a legendary name for itself in Italy, winning the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award 15 times, nearly every year it has been produced. The lovely 2009 Terre di San Leonardo that we are offering here is a mirror image of that great wine, made in the tradition of Bordeaux’s second wines. Look for blueberry and black cherry fruit blending smoothly with notes of cedar, forest floor, wild herbs and dried violet. This is not a wine based on extract or power; the fruit retains a savory quality and never turns jammy or liqueur-like. Fans of this great Italian estate will be excited to know that all of the best fruit from 2009 is blended into the 2009 Terre di San Leonardo—there is no flagship 2009 San Leonardo, only a better-than-ever 2nd wine.  Brilliant ruby red, with attractive depth and decent length. The aromas are alcohol and fruit-rich when the wine is young, later mellowing with bottle age into ripe plum fruit layered over a faintly grassy background note. Dry, soft and well-balanced on the palate, it reveals a pleasing bitterish twist in the finish. Good aromatic length. Item # 303611

Gold Selection Plan 2 $24.95

1 Bottle of red wine and 1 bottle of white wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 2 is for those who like it red.... and white! A solid two-pack selection.

DOWNES FAMILY SANTUARY PEAK 2012 SAUVIGNON BLANC, SOUTH AFRICA - Downes Family Vineyards is situated in the Elgin Valley within the Kogelberg Biosphere with mountains on their western boundary and the Palmiet River forming the eastern boundary. The Elgin Valley which has long been regarded as the apple and pear center of South Africa, now has some of the country's most highly regarded winemakers establishing vineyards in the area, testament to its obvious winemaking potential.

The focus of this wine is based on a vineyard component arising from low yielding Table Mountain Sandstone soils. Using neutral yeasts, Shannon Sauvignon Blanc expresses very distinctive and concentrated primary fruit aromas of asparagus, citrus, and some capsicum in a minerally and flinty style. The clay/shale soils however, provide the Sauvignon with flavors on the riper side of the fruit spectrum and with more structure for a broader palate. The blending in of naturally fermented Semillon, matured on the lees, provides a fuller mouth feel and adds to the complexity of the wine. This wine was vinified in a style that enhances the aging potential of Sauvignon Blanc. Item #382036

Platinum Selection Plan 1 $49.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 1 features two bold reds which will surely satisfy any wine lover. We include top wines from prestigious wine growing regions.

TENUTA DELLE MACCHIE ALBERAIA 2011 TOSCANA ROSSO, ITALY - Our Wine of the Month 2 for June is a fantastic, 100% Sangiovese from the Casole d'Elsa commune in Siena, southwest of Florence in Italy. ‘Alberaia’ refers to a small group of trees typical of the landscape surrounding Casole d’Elsa. The wine is a harmonious blend of elegance and strength, finesse and power. The nose presents a mélange of fruits and spice with cherry licorice, blueberries, red plum, black pepper and mixed baking spices-- a touch of balsa wood is in the background. The palate showcases sweet cherry fruit, red fruit leather, more spice and wood while forward acidity and ample tannins keep it clean and balanced. Alberaia drinks well on its own while snacking and cooking in the kitchen. Red and white meats (roasted chicken and lighter game like pheasant, quail and the like) are good companions as well as are grilled vegetables, salads, pasta dishes and tomato-based sauces. Item # 301628

LANGTRY 2010 CABERNET SAUVIGNON TEPHRA RIDGE - The high elevation Tephra Ridge Vineyard is the winery’s premier vineyard. Perched on a mountainside above the Guenoc Valley, the 35-acre Tephra Ridge Vineyard has thin, gravelly loam volcanic soils that typify the finest Bordeaux variety sites. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the best of the best Cabernet from the 2010 vintage. Distinctively hill side Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has aromas and flavors of black cherry, licorice, spiced pipe tobacco and rounds out with notes of cedar. The well drained soils of Tephra Ridge produce concentrated dark fruit flavors and tannins that envelope the mouth and dissolve revealing a long multi-layered spice finish. #237010

McPRICE MYERS 2011 PROPRIETARY WHITE "TERRE BLANCHE" PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA - ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! The 2011 McPrice Myers Terre Blanche is an outstanding blend of 80% Roussanne and 20% Viognier. It shows superb aromas of ripe pear, mineral, hazelnut and citrus rind to go with a medium-bodied, silky, yet energetic palate. While there’s lots of fruit here, the overall impression is of purity and class. Enjoy it over the coming 2-3 years. Drink now-2016." Item # 241310

Champagne Selection No More Than $44.95

1 Bottle of Champagne
(tax & shipping not included)

The Champagne Selection is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We will showcase artisinal discoveries in French Champagne.

LELARGE-PUGEOT BRUT TRADITION, FRANCE - Settled in the Champagne Region since the 18th Century, the LELARGE Family acquired its first vineyards, thanks to Pierre Henri Lelarge, married to Madeleine Dravigny, from a family of winegrowers in Vrigny. Throughout the generations, Pierre Henri's descendants have perpetuated this attachment to the local soil and to the beautiful work of growing grapes. That's how the LELARGE estate has been developing for the past seven generations. As of 1987, Dominique Lelarge took over the family-estate alongside his wife, Dominique Pugeot, the winery then became: CHAMPAGNE LELARGE-PUGEOT. With the birth of their three children (Clemence, Valentin and Clotilde), the story of the Lelarge, winegrowers in Champagne is continuing. In 2012, the 8th generation joined the team, and Clemence began as the Global Brand Ambassador.

A blend of 65% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir, and 15% Chardonnay from the 2009 vintage with an additional dollop of reserve wine from 2008. This cuvee was given three full years aging on the yeast which is about twice the time most other “entry-level” Champagnes get. The following notes from Wine Enthusiast are right on the mark, “…The family’s non-vintage Champagne is soft, rounded and creamy. It has fresh citrus and tangy orange zest fruits that are tight, crisp and with a direct line of acidity. It’s totally ready to drink. 89 Points.” Here then, is very savvy choice for“drop in” entertaining scenarios.
