September Taster's Advantage

Gold Selection Plan 1 $24.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 1 is for red wine lovers: two tasty selections from California or Around the World.

Las Rocas 2012 Spanish Red Blend D.O. Calatayud Spain - Founded in 1962 as a growers’ co-operative, Bodegas San Alejandro (BSA) is located in the tiny town of Miedes, about 55 miles north of Madrid in the province of Zaragoza. Today, over 350 local growers farm nearly 3,000 acres of vineyard in the Calatayud winegrowing region to supply the grapes they use for Las Rocas. Primarily Garnacha (Grenache), with Tempranillo and Syrah, this red blend is a powerful reminder of how well these grapes can thrive in northeastern Spain and how good the wines made from them can be when in the right hands. This is the exact type of wine we constantly look for when it comes to our wine of the month program: the quality and value are both very high, the cost is quite reasonable. That’s pretty much it, in a nutshell.

The nose is rich and multilayered, with lots of dark fruit scents, blackberries, dark plums, meshed with Dutch licorice, graphite, earth, exotic florals, cigar box and peppercorn. Black fruits dominate on the palate but are balanced with good acidity. The mouth-feel is lush but not over-the-top, as the fruits play with baking spices, earthy minerality and a soupçon of black pepper. The mid-length finish reverberated with the dark fruit theme, receding gently. Perfect late summer, early fall wine-- get away one more weekend, or keep the grill handy for that last barbecue as this wine will help the sun shine just a bit longer. Item # 381403

Gott 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon #815 - Sourced from Napa Valley, Mendocino, Paso Robles, and Lake County, Joel makes the wine with the guiding eye of his wife, Sarah (who has worked at Gloria Ferrer, Joseph Phelps, and Quintessa). The dark garnet colored wine starts off with a big nose of cherry, currant, and vanilla, leading to similar flavors on the palate, with spicy oak joining the mix. This Cab balances ripe, rich fruit with good tannin, and is able to be drank on its own, or paired with a variety of foods. Simply put, it’s quite a value for Cabernet! Item #226230

Platinum Selection Plan 1 $49.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 1 features two bold reds which will surely satisfy any wine lover. We include top wines from prestigious wine growing regions.

The Ned 2011 Southern Valley Pinot Noir - The Ned Pinot Noir vines are planted in the deep clay loams of the Southern Valley’s, universally regarded as the finest Pinot Noir terror in Marlborough. The vines are cane pruned and meticulously tended to achieve a naturally balanced crop of intensely flavored fruit. Sourced from the renowned Benmorven and Slopes vineyards, the 2011 vintage was naturally low yielding, with a long ripening period that has ensured optimal fruit expression and tannin ripeness.

A complex amalgam of red currant and dark cherry are lifted by nutmeg and juniper spices with high notes of star anise. Signature Pinot aromas of warm, dried leaf mulch contrast these primary fruit and spice aromas, adding further depth and complexity. Detailed flavors of dark berry fruits are lifted by the added punch of crushed pink peppercorns whilst being anchored by savory, gamey undertones. The palate is focused yet rich with firm, silky tannins that provide both structure and length. Whilst delicious on release this wine will become deeper and more complex with careful cellaring over the next 5 -7 years. Item #381029

Mt. Difficulty Roaring Meg 2012 Central Otago Pinot Noir - It all began in the early 1990s, when the owners of five newly-planted vineyards in Bannockburn, Central Otago, shook hands and decided to work together to produce wine under one label, Mt. Difficulty. The handshake bound the owners of Molyneux, Mansons Farm, Verboeket Estate and Full Circle until 2004 when Mt. Difficulty Wines Ltd was formed, and the majority of the individual vineyards passed into the ownership of the company. As a result, Mt. Difficulty Wines Ltd now owns some of the oldest vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago in New Zealand's rugged South Island. The vine age gives these wines, particularly the Pinot Noirs, extra complexity and concentration. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognized as one of the few places in the world outside Burgundy where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home. Parts of New Zealand and cooler areas on the western seaboard of the United States are the only other regions where Pinot Noir seems to truly flourish. The nose is filled with bright fruit, sweet cherries and mixed red fruits, light spice, leather and a background floral perfume. The bright red cherry fruits are tempered nicely on the palate with excellent acidity and richer flavors: pomegranate, cherry tobacco, black tea, dark spices and plums. Very drinkable, enjoyable Pinot. Item #377999

Platinum Selection Plan 2 $49.95

1 Bottle of red wine and 1 bottle of white wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 2 is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We showcase two outstanding bottles, one white and one red from world-class vintners.

Podere Sapaio 2010 Volpolo Bolgheri, Italy - WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Offers a well of black cherry, black currant and plum fruit, suffused with accents of sandalwood and baking spices. Balanced and light-footed, with a long aftertaste of fruit and spice. A modern, harmonious style. Drink now through 2020.—B.S." Podere Sapaio was founded in 1999, after Massimo Piccin convinced his father to invest in purchase of land and creation of wine-making estate in prospective Bolgheri DOC area. Being originally from North-Italian region of Veneto Massimo always felt passion for wine and wanted to embody it in his own project.

The estate comprising of up-to-date winery and 40 hectares of land has been created practically from zero. The Sapaio vineyards are divided between the municipalities of Castagneto Carducci and Bibbona. The lands are located on quaternary deposits and range from loose coarse-grained sandy sediments to flood-land deposits with free-draining calcareous soil. Grapevines from Bordeaux that have been cultivated here over the past fifty years have established themselves in the area very well.

The philosophy of Sapaio is based on experimentation and innovation: their research is directed towards new expressions of Bordeaux grapes in the Bolgheri region, with the objective of creating wines that combine power, elegance and longevity. Item #302437

Loveblock 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, New Zeland - Loveblock is the project of Kim Crawford who helped transform the New Zealand wine industry and make Sauvignon Blanc a household name around the world. Kim Crawford's Sauvignon Blanc continues to be a huge hit with our customers. For his new Loveblock wine,Kim Crawford purschased land and planted vineyards on the hilltops overlooking Marlborough's Awatere Valley. His aim is to create the best wine to express this extraordinary place. New Zealand's signature varietal tends to be bold and big with pugent aromatics. The Loveblock wine focuses more on texture and finesse, while retaining nice acidy. It has beautiful aromatics of white peach, melon and subtle herbaceous notes. On the palate, the mouth feel is generous with nice lift, refinement and minerality. Hints of stone fruit and citrus linger on the long finish. This wine is complex and subtle. Think of it as Kim Crawford dressed up for a night out on the town. Item #383090

Champagne Selection No More Than $44.95

1 Bottle of Champagne
(tax & shipping not included)

The Champagne Selection is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We will showcase artisinal discoveries in French Champagne.

Collet Brut Champagne, France - Collet Champagne was founded in 1921 by small growers who wanted to make their own wine rather than sell their grapes to the large corporate Champagne houses.  Today they have 2.5 square miles of vineyards in Ay, considered the best wine growing district in the appellation.  All their vineyards are ranked Grand Cru.

This is a very approachable Champagne with considerable depth and fruit, combined with an unusual complexity.  A blend of 40 separate ‘crus’, the cuvée aged for over three years in bottle prior to shipment. It is a blend of 10 % Chardonnay, 25 % Pinot Noir and 65 % Pinot Meunier and has a warm, golden-green color, a toasty fruit-driven nose and good intensity on the palate. While modestly priced, this is a Champagne of considerable body and substance. It displays a warm golden color with an intense, almost amber, hue and delivers flavors of spices, fresh butter and wheat. On the palate, it is vinous and suave and with a long, crowd- pleasing finish.  This would be delicious served with duck breast.  Item #377004.
