November Taster's Advantage

Gold Selection Plan 1 $24.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Gold Selection Plan 1 is for red wine lovers: two tasty selections from California or Around the World.

Rock Garden 2013 Syrah Santa Ynez - Picture this…our California wine buyer is tasting with Mac Myers, the winemaker at Barrel 27 and McPrice Myers, up in Paso Robles. Mac has barrels of Syrah that are destined for specific bottlings (like Les Galets, Beautiful Earth and Right Hand Man), but he also has a few barrels of Syrah that are absolutely delicious, but just don’t quite fit into any of these existing wines. At that point in time, the light goes off in our buyer’s head. ”Hey Mac, why don’t we work on a blend with these barrels for Hi-Time’s limited run of Rock Garden wines?” Mac totally agreed. They worked on blending specific amounts from certain barrels and came up with a few more-than-worthy candidates. But Mac, whose heart is as big as they come, pulled a barrel away from one of his premium wines because he wanted to be sure that our Rock Garden wine was a hit. We tasted this new blend…BOOM! Rock Garden Syrah is here to rock your world!

The wine is a blend of fruit comprised of 80% from Camp 4 Vineyard and 20% Kymsi Vineyard, two properties in the Santa Ynez Valley. Camp Four is in the eastern part of the valley, where it is very warm to downright hot, and brings rich, dense fruit to the wine. Kymsi is in Ballard Canyon, the middle of Santa Ynez Valley, and brings black fruit, structure and spice. In addition to the Syrah, 5% Viognier was co-fermented with the Syrah. This helps to create darker color, lifted aromatics and a more approachable wine. Dark garnet in color with a purple hue, the nose is chocked full of plums, boysenberry, blackberry, baking spice, white pepper, and grilled meat. On the palate the wine is juicy, but not overpowering, possessing good freshness and lift, with fresh fruit compote, soy, a mélange of blue and black fruit, with a hint of raspberry, bacon, and graphite. Velvety, fleshy, and with a long lasting finish, this is a steal of a wine! Item #252520

Bishops Peak 2013 Pinot Noir San Luis Obispo, California - The 2013 vintage marked the second abundant harvest in a row at Talley Vineyards and the second year of the California drought. At 6 inches, total rainfall was less than 30% of the average for Southern San Luis Obispo County. Dry conditions in the spring at bloom time afforded excellent fruit set and these ideal growing conditions continued throughout the summer and fall with no rain during harvest and very little mildew or botrytis pressure. Yields were about 25% above average and the resulting wines are elegant and balanced.

Brilliant garnet in color, the 2013 vintage of Bishop’s Peak Pinot Noir bursts with aromas of strawberry and raspberry complimented with subtle notes of earth and soil. This medium bodied wine has elegant flavors consistent with its aromas, soft tannins and refreshing acidity. Enjoy a glass with a wedge of Fontina cheese or garlic and herb roasted pork tenderloin. Porto Carras 2013 Athiri Halkidiki, Greece - Domaine Porto Carras is located on the western coast of the Sithonia peninsula in Halkidiki, Greece, about 60 or 70 miles from Thessalonika.  One of the largest wine estates in Greece, the spectacularly terraced and organically farmed vineyards are planted on the slopes of Mount Meliton above the Gulf of Torone. In recent years Porto Carras has been emphasizing grape varieties native to Greece such as this dry white made from 100% organically grown Athiri grapes. This wine has a light gold color; on the nose you find aromas of white peaches and nectarines.  There is a good balance of fruit and crispness leading to a long finish. Serve this quaffer with appetizers, light seafood or chicken dishes.  Item # 302557.

Platinum Selection Plan 1 $49.95

2 Bottles of red wine
(tax & shipping not included)

The Platinum Selection 1 features two bold reds which will surely satisfy any wine lover. We include top wines from prestigious wine growing regions.

Delaire Graff 2012 Botsmaskop, South Africa - This wine is a beautiful Bordeaux style blend from the premiere winegrowing region of Stellenbosch on the western cape of South Africa. When the buyer and other Hi Time staff tried it, we were blown away by this delicious wine! In a blind tasting, one would be hard pressed to guess where this wine hails from. The balance, complexity and length of this delicious wine represent an astounding value, which competes very favorably with other red wines from around the world.

This wine begins to draw you in with its deep ruby color and stained tears on the stemware give a preview of the nicely extracted wine. On the nose, dark fruit, red fruit and cassis are framed by well-integrated French oak, which is complementary rather than obtrusive. Baking spices, sweet pipe tobacco, and a dusting of cocoa are evident. A floral element and freshly tilled earth add to the complex bouquet. On the palate, a perfect union of fruit and tannin lay the groundwork for a marriage of flavors with enough acidity to provide lift and definition. The silky tannins envelop the Kirsch and dark berry flavors and caress the tongue, leading to a long finish. This is a wine with structure, but also elegance and finesse which can be enjoyed now or over the next five to eight years. Item #380604

Chiappini 2010 Felciano Bolgheri, Italy - The poet Robert Frost once talked about woods that were "...lovely, dark and deep." The scents and flavors of this wine somehow brought that poem to mind. Dark fruits start upon nosing the glass with notes of cedar and black cherry, roasted nuts, dark spice and high-cacao chocolate. Purple fruits and midnight florals waft by, as well. The palate is rife with more black cherry and chocolate, black licorice, loamy earth and spice, all enveloped by overseeing dark fruits. Great finish, fantastic wine.

Azienda Agricola Giovanni Chiappini is situated in the famous zone of Tuscany called Bolgheri. The farm of the Chiappini Family is stretching on the green hills of Bolgheri, offering a unique view of the surrounding area. The sun rises behind the green, and the wonderful wild hills of Bolgheri, that are dominated by the fortress of Castiglioncello, which almost touches the tops of the famous cypresses, drawing on the sea.

This is where many extraordinary wines are produced, and this estate is situated right amongst the most famous, such as Ornellaia and Le Macchiole. A part of the production of olive oil in which the family runs a small Agriturismo named "Tra gli Ulivi" (Among olive trees), and produces wine such as Le Grottine, Ferruggini, Felciaino, Guado de' Gemoli and the line Lienà. (tax & shipping not included)

Espirt de Pavie 2009 Bordeaux, France - Already the owner of the renowned Pavie, Pavie-Decesse, Monbousquet and Bellevue-Mondotte estates, Gérard Perse has now created "Esprit de Pavie", bearing the Bordeaux appellation. Esprit de Pavie comes from a great diversity of terroirs situated on the southfacing slopes of the Dordogne valley and enjoys the same care and attention in winemaking as its illustrious siblings to ensure each bottle's high level quality The heady, per fumed nos e seamlessly blends violets and night florals with assorted blue and purple fruits and cocoa. Primarily Merlot (65%, with 20% Cab Franc, 15% Cab Sauv), this wine definitely bats fourth in the lineup: it's a powerhouse! Lush in the mouth, with notes of cherry kirsch, toasted earth, red licorice, a touch of dark savory spice and dried meat, both the acidity and tannins are king-sized. Red meats, aged cheeses will beg for this one. Big, brash, bold, beautiful wine. Item #333819

Casa Silva 2012 Sauvignon Blanc “Cool Coast”, Chile - WINE & SPIRITS 90 POINTS - "The warmth of the '12 harvest emphasized structure over aroma in sauvignon from Chile's far coast. This latest release of Cool Coast is a broad white, full of concentrated, ripe citrus flavors."

Expressive nose with intense pineapple and lime citrus aromas complemented with mineral notes. The palate is round and firm, dominated by citrus notes with refreshing acidity and a salty background. Serve it alongside cheese with a touch of sweetness or with any number of fish, especially halibut. Item #382450

Champagne Selection No More Than $44.95

1 Bottle of Champagne
(tax & shipping not included)

The Champagne Selection is a special gift for the discriminating connoisseur. We will showcase artisinal discoveries in French Champagne.

Doyard Mache 2088 Extra Brut “E.B.” Blanc de Blanc Champagne, France - From the outstanding 2008 Champagne harvest, this E.B. was and was aged sur latte for four years in the cellars prior to a manual riddling just prior to disgorgement. Dosage is a minimal 4 g/l which works well to rein in this Champagne’s copious Chardonnay fruit. It sports a burnished straw hue that serves as a brilliant backdrop for its numerous strands of bubbles which releases delicate aromas of lemon blossoms, pears and dried apricots. The kinetic palate tingles with stone and citrus fruit flavors that are surprisingly generous for such a low dosage bottling. The memorable finish reverberates long and pleasingly with notions of limes, lemon drops and wet chalk. Here then, is a lively, but balanced Champagne that showcases the brilliance of the 2008 vintage at a very affordable tariff.

Philippe Doyard is understandably proud of his grandfather Maurice Doyard who founded in 1941 the CIVC (Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne). Today Doyard farms 15 acres of vineyards (90% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir) in the southern Côte des Blancs village of Vertus. The soil and climate of Vertus produces fruitier Champagnes than those of its northern neighbors a factor that dovetails with the Doyard Mahe house style. For twenty years the family’s has been guided by a keen respect for the environment--i.e. viticulture raisonnée. Philippe strives to make accessible, fruit-forward Champagnes that reflect all his hard work in the field. To this end he employs stainless fermenting vats with temperature control, malolactic fermentation and extended aging on the yeast. Item #378662
