were added to create a fruit-forward profile and enhanced mouth feel. The wine was aged for 12 months in a combination of American and French oak barrels to build structure and complexity in the blend. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, juicy red that features aromas of dark cherry, black currants, coffee, and subtle hints of spice. These flavors are complemented by a touch of spicy oak and emphasized by refined tannins.

have everything; texture, richness, balance and structure. Chris continues to think 2007 is his best vintage (we tasted his 2007 Sorrella during the visit and it’s an incredible wine) to date, and he describes 2012 as a “bigger 2008.” Nevertheless, I think these 2012s will rival the 2007s in another 4-5 years. In addition, they have a new vineyard near Two Blondes called Pollard Vineyard that’s planted to Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. I visited earlier this year and the 2013s had not been put together, so I’ll review those (possibly from barrel) next year. These are great wines."

"One of the more backwards, structured efforts, the 2012 Champoux Vineyard is a blend of 64% Cabernet Franc, 22% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon that was raised in 35% new French oak. Full-bodied, serious and loaded with tannin, it offers impressive currant and darker fruits, tobacco leaf and crushed rock like aromas and flavors that continue to gain depth and richness with time in the glass. It should hit full maturity at around age 10, and nicely for a decade or more after that."

and low rainfall (about 6-8" annually) translates to excellent flavor concentration. The vineyard's latitude and south- and north-facing orientations help vines soak up more than 17 hours of sunshine per day at the peak of summer, resulting in rich, fully mature flavors and supple tannins.

Canoe Ridge's "The Expedition" lineup of wines was inspired by explorers Lewis & Clark. The mindset here was to explore the possibilities of blending some of the extra wine after crafting their flagship wines. Now, while we taste hundreds of "value" wines during the course of the year, there are very few that standout as having high quality to price rations. When we tasted these Expedition wines, we had to do a double take with the vendor; these wines absolutely rocked! The Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon were the stars of the show, and we had to immediately bring them in and share this find with our customers!

Light gold / butterscotch in color, this wine has a rich nose of lemon cream, butter, and philo dough. Flavors of roasted nuts, citrus, lemon curd, butter, and a tough of oak greet you upon entry. Rich and expressive on the palate, this wine has weight, yet still retains mouth-watering acidity to keep things fresh and lively. This really taste like it should cost more…but don't tell the winery!

This year, their red blend “Les Chevaux” (French for ‘the horses’) hit the home stretch well ahead of the dozen other worthy wines to take the purse.

Chevaux is a blend comprised of 80% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Syrah. Winemaker Juan Muñoz Oca was raised in Mendoza, Argentina and worked with his grandfather, cellar master at Bodegas Toso winery, at a young age. Juan joined Columbia Crest in 2003 and was named head winemaker in 2011. Prior to 2011 he was dedicated to the winery’s red wine program where he worked alongside Ray Einberger whose 2005 Reserve Cab became the first Washington wine to be named ‘Wine of the Year’ by Wine Spectator in 2009. Why Columbia Crest? Oca states: “The perfect grape-growing climate, the best viticultural practices, and a people committed to crafting the best bottle of wine vintage after vintage is what Columbia Crest’s winemaking is all about.”

The nose starts with Christmas spices, vanilla and cardamom, then adds a layer of cherry/plum/pomegranate reduction; a very attractive, inviting nose. The palate leads off with sweet cherry fruit and forward tannins as baking spices, Kriek lambic flavors and dark cocoa notes add depth and balance. The finish is lengthy and tasty as the big tannins slowly recede, leaving reverberations of red fruits, spice and a mineral earthiness to meander around the mouth for a few minutes more.

- "Supple and spicy, with a plush-textured, dark-hued, blackberry-rich mouthful lingering against creamy oak notes on the long and polished finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2018."

is composed of shallow Scoon silt loam soil, formed in loess, underlain by basalt. The fruit has a Meyer lemon highlight. The upper vines grow on a steep (15%-30%) side hill facing northwest at 1280 feet elevation, with two soil types. The shallow Scoon silt loam soil predominates. But there is an area of Burke silt loam soil, moderately deep and well drained on a 12% slope. These grapes have a pineapple, tropical fruit note that is very distinctive.

The resulting wine is an interplay between the two sites, showing an enticing array of ripe pear, lemon crème, orange blossom, marzipan, and butterscotch are accompanied by rich creamy texture and vibrant acidity. Only 225 cases were produced!

There is an excellent balance of acid with supple tannins and a long finish that broadens the range of flavors for even more complexity.

Figgins is one of the most highly-respected winemakers in Washington (most notably with Leonetti, Corliss and now Doubleback). Right off we’ll tell you that this isn’t one of those instances where some celebrity wants their name attached to some wine for vanity’s sake… this is legit! Drew and Chris go way back, as they grew up just 400 yards away from each other. When Drew decided to get seriously into the wine business, Chris helped him with vineyard design, vineyard planting and he consults on all winemaking decisions.

71% New French Oak 29% Neutral 20 months in barrel. Aromatic notes~ Kirsch, cherry raspberry liqueur up front followed with brown baking spices, hint of anise & cedar. Upon entry, you are graced with supple, chewy tannins that persist through the nice long finish. Richly nuanced, there are hints of mixed berries, cedar with some savory notes shining through. While the dense chewy tannins dominate initially, this racy core of acidity shines forth after some heavy decanting / air time. This wine begs for fat either in the form of a nice marbled rib eye or cheese. Delicious! While patience and another year or 2 in the bottle is recommended, if you want to drink now, as mentioned, enjoy it with dinner!

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 94-96 POINTS - "Chris Figgins and Drew Bledsoe continue to release a blockbuster Cabernet under their Doubleback label."

"Tasted out of barrel, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon should be a significant step up over the 2011. Full-bodied, beautifully textured, concentrated and rich, with high, yet sweet tannin, it offers up notions of cassis, cedar, cherry blossom and lead pencil shavings in its pure, sexy personality. Given the texture and concentration, it should drink reasonably well on release, yet evolve for two decades."

aromas of cool campfire ash, game and roasted herbs. Silky and plush with a lot of “WOW,” seamless and complete, this is the last Hustler of the decade. — Charles Smith

Growing up just outside of Sacramento, California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Charles Smith began craving worldly travel at a young age due to his Welsh mother and French father. As soon as he had the chance, Charles decided to move to Denmark. While in Scandinavia, Charles spent the next nine years managing rock bands and concert tours throughout Europe, including the famed Danish duo, The Ravonettes. Wining and dining while on the road became a catalyst for his passion of wine, which ultimately triggered the career he has today.

A self-taught winemaker, Charles is a true artisan and a pioneer in the wine world. In 2008, K Vintners was recognized by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the “Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years,” and as “Winery of the Year” in their annual buying guide. In 2009 Food & Wine magazine awarded Charles “Winemaker of the Year” and in 2010 Seattle Magazine recognized Charles as their “Winemaker of the Year.”

All of the Rhone varieties see 100% whole cluster, native fermentations and aging in mostly neutral French oak. I think the 2012s are slightly superior to the '13s, but both of these vintages are strong here."

"A classic, structured effort, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Stoneridge Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) gives up lots of graphite, leafy herbs and dried violet nuances to go with ample kirsch and black cherry fruit.
