and citrus where the latter can also be found on the textured and borderline massive flavors that display absolutely no sense of heaviness on the exceptionally rich finish that drenches and stains the palate. This is a big wine yet there is a firm acid backbone that keeps everything in ideal balance and overall, it's an extremely impressive effort. While the abundant dry extract enables this, like many '05s, to drink with pleasure now, in magnum format I personally would allow for at least another 4 to 5 years of bottle age."

lemon rind suffused nose. There is excellent richness and outstanding size, weight and power to the overtly muscular flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract on the explosively long and palate staining finish. Like the Criots, this is bone dry with genuinely impeccable balance that should allow this to successfully age and improve for 10 to 12 years."

It begins with terroir. A large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs Au Pied Du Mont” (or “the fields at the foot of the mountain”) is located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. Chardonnay is planted on the upper part of the slope with chalky soil. The nose starts with a base of light oak quickly covered in river water; the chalk where it grows upon lends it this mineral characteristic and unique personality. Warm wood spice, golden apple and Chinese white pear flavors act as décolletage to the beautifully dominant minerality; think glacial, granitic runoff ensconced with a touch of sea salt. The palate weight is lush but kept lean as ápropos acidity courses throughout. The finish brings an echo of lemon curd that reverberates on and on for minutes. Beautiful wine.

a small producer located in Vosne-Romanée, and made by Vincent Mongeard. The Mongeard family has produced wine in Vosne-Romanée since the eighteenth century, and makes “old school” styled, delicately proportioned, graceful Burgundies. Their 2010 Bourgogne (Pinot Noir) is no exception. In fact, this is a great entry-level bottle of Burgundy that would please even the most seasoned wine drinker. Also noteworthy, we are loving wines from the 2010 Burgundy vintage, as they are unbelievably pure and pristine wines that can be enjoyed at first sip.
Mongeard-Mugneret 2010 Bourgogne is garnet hued, and unravels in the glass with a nose of cherry, wild raspberry, a hint of clove and earth. On the palate, its texture is feminine, elegant and feather-light, but still persistent with woodland berry fruit, mineral, and has a silky finish. This wine shines with medium acidity, balance, and has 12.5% alcohol. It is seamless, integrated, full of vigor and cut, and just beautiful wine at an amazing price.

s great assets, besides his immense talent as a winemaker, are his long relationships with growers and modest production volumes, which allow him to focus on older vines from the best possible locations. Grapes for Val de Mer come from 18 hectares of estate fruit and miniscule parcels of purchased fruit in and around Chablis. Apart from the Vaudesir Grand Cru, all the Val de Mer Chablis hail from the left bank of the Serein River, where the wines tend to show more fruit yet maintain a distinctly Kimmeridgien minerality that can only be Chablis. The nose on this Bourgogne Blanc blends sea salt, lemon grass and a touch of cream. In the mouth, great acidity showcases lemon citrus fruit, apple flesh, mixed florals and lean minerality. Bring on the oysters! Drinks way above its price niveau.
