and background hints of citrus zest. There is excellent richness and power to the big-bodied, concentrated and energetic flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract, all wrapped in a balanced, deep and highly persistent finish. This is not quite as intense as the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet but offers greater depth."

The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation. It is tightly coiled toward the finish and just fades a little when you want it to step on the accelerator. Drink 2014-2025."

BURGHOUND 92-95 POINTS: "A ripe and highly expressive nose of acacia blossom, white peach and a pretty array of citrus aromas trimmed in enough wood toast to notice gives way to solidly rich and imposingly full-bodied flavors brimming with dry extract that confers a wonderfully textured, indeed almost chewy mouth feel onto the palate coating yet markedly dry finish. This is extraordinary in its ability to deliver such impressive size and weight while retaining such fine precision. This is very Bâtard but an elegant version."

at this early stage than its peers, offering peach skin and nectarine fruit, fine mineralite and tension. The palate is powerful like the Criots-Batard-Montrachet, packed with pithy fruit and touches of granite on the finish. Very fine – but just five barrels this year. The reds were all in barrel when we met."

pear and white peach scents. The delicious, muscular and pure broad-shouldered and powerful flavors are bigger than those of the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet while possessing an almost painfully intense palate impression that continues onto the concentrated and impressively persistent if compact finish. This is somewhat youthfully awkward and rather hard to read yet the underlying material is so good that it seems reasonably clear that this should be very good to excellent in time."

eROBERT PARKER 90-92 POINTS: "The 2012 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a richer, more tropical-scented bouquet compared to the Bienvenue. The palate is smooth and rounded, rich and mellifluous in the mouth with a long, seductive finish that needs just a little more tension and poise. To be honest, this is out-classed by the Bienvenue."

There is excellent richness and power to the notably concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that really coats the palate on the serious and almost painfully intense finish. This is not a particularly big Bâtard, in fact it's not even the biggest wine in the range yet it is potentially the most complete as it has everything it needs to be excellent in time."

eROBERT PARKER 91-93 POINTS: "There are just three and a half barrels of the 2012 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, the smallest ever. This has a precise, saline bouquet with limestone and chalky scents, but it is very tight at the moment. The palate is tightly wound with a crisp line of acidity, hints of dried peach and pithy fruit informing the weighty finish, although I probably prefer the tension exuded by the Caillerets at the moment. There are four red wines from Gagnard."

aromas of pear, white peach, apricot, acacia blossom and discreet menthol nuances. As is usually the case there is more size, weight and muscle to the medium weight plus flavors that possess a hint of bitter lemon on the massively long finish. What I find interesting about the 2013 Bâtard is not only that it is more elegant then usual but also that it manages to deliver so much volume and power without any appreciable weight. In a word, brilliant."

of mint developing with time in the glass. The palate is taut and quite saline, precise with touches of brioche developing in the glass. It is the steady crescendo of flavors that really marks out this Grand Cru, a sense of effortlessness unmatched by the Chassagne premier crus. This just oozes class and should drink beautifully over the next couple of decades."

stone notes that can also be found on the textured and soundly concentrated middle weight flavors that terminate in a tension-filled, precise and well-balanced finish. Lovely and fashioned in an understated style that should allow for 6 to 8 years of upside development potential."

It begins with terroir. A large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs Au Pied Du Mont” (or “the fields at the foot of the mountain”) is located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. Chardonnay is planted on the upper part of the slope with chalky soil. The nose starts with a base of light oak quickly covered in river water; the chalk where it grows upon lends it this mineral characteristic and unique personality. Warm wood spice, golden apple and Chinese white pear flavors act as décolletage to the beautifully dominant minerality; think glacial, granitic runoff ensconced with a touch of sea salt. The palate weight is lush but kept lean as ápropos acidity courses throughout. The finish brings an echo of lemon curd that reverberates on and on for minutes. Beautiful wine.

re tempted to try a bottle young. There is excellent richness, volume and mid-palate concentration to the opulently textured middle weight flavors that despite the impressive richness manage to retain reasonably good delineation on the balanced and lingering finish. This is less elegant than it usually is but given the serious hail damage suffered in 2013, this is a more than respectable performance."

eROBERT PARKER 93 POINTS: "The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches was picked October 1-10, whole-cluster fruit and matured for 11 months in oak, bottled in September 2015 (incidentally, it be will packed in threes because of the small crop.) The nose is well defined, but it takes a little while to find its voice, eventually revealing white peach, wax resin and hints of white pepper. The palate is well balanced, understated at first, but then fanning out beautifully on the mid-palate with white pepper and shaved ginger rendering the finish lively and long in the mouth. It is remarkable that such a great white Burgundy has been produced in such a devastated vineyard. Victory clutched from the hands of defeat."

richer but not finer with excellent volume and intensity to the middle weight flavors that also conclude in a wonderfully well-balanced finish that delivers terrific persistence. Fruity and full of life. This is a classical white Burgundy and a good entry level wine for Burgundy in general. The colour is golden yellow, with a greenish glint. The aromas are reminiscent of fresh grape and green almond. Elegant texture.

with different seasonal processes in the vineyard (pruning, trellising on wires/tying-in, thinning fruit-bunches). The vines are 50 years old.

•Winemaking : the grapes are harvested by hand and sorted when picking the grapes. They are then lightly pressed in a pneumatic press at a low pressure to get a slow extraction. After a gentle racking of the must, the wine is put in French oak casks of 500 liters (no new oak) for both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, with wild yeasts, ageing for 10 months. During this time, we did no stirring of the lees in the barrels. A month before the bottling, the wine from the different barrels is put in a stainless steel tank to make the blend. The wine is finally fined and lightly filtered before bottling according to the lunar calendar (“fruit” day).

•Tasting notes: we want to enhance the freshness and elegance of a typical Chardonnay from Burgundy. A floral and fruity wine (citrus, peach) combines with mineral notes and a beautiful length. A good pairing wine for plenty of dishes.

•To serve with : seafood, grilled fish, white meat and cheese.

examples of what this complex and amazing terroir can yield. Though their wines are quite enjoyable young, their ability to age well is what one might expect from a master such as de Villaine. Much of this is due to both the diversity of his vinestock and his organic and biodynamic methodology in the vineyards, both of which Aubert stands by with great conviction. He also ferments his Mercureys in wood cuves, a style adopted from DRC.

more aromatic wines than its cousin, the Aligoté vert. True to its varietal nature, our Bouzeron is a liveley, fruity wine, but it also has a finesse and roundness that spring from the essential nature of the terroir. These qualities lend it great versatility. To best appreciate the freshness and fruit, it would be drunk young, within two or three years. To allow the wine to fully develop fullness and "fatness", age it for up to ten years. It should be served chilled, at about 54°F, as an apéritif, with seafood, or with a number of cheeses (goat cheese, Cantal, Beaufort, Parmesan, Roquefort, etc."
