WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS "The 2008 Capellania Blanco Reserva is the only white produced by Murrieta at this time and comes from a vineyard called Capellania, Read More...
the highest plot within the Ygay Estate, located at 485 meters altitude. It’s 100% Viura from 60-year-old vines harvested on October 6, cold-fermented for 30-40 days and aged for 19 months in new French oak barriques, with no malolactic. It has notes of chamomile, dried flowers, honey, pollen, beeswax and roasted nuts with great complexity and elegance, in a slightly oxidative way. Medium to full-bodied in the palate, it is round, with good amounts of glycerin, pungent flavors and superb balance. 19,500 bottles produced. It should have a good evolution in bottle. Drink 2014-2018."

Yes, this is one of the oldest wineries in Rioja, created back in the 19th century, and they keep their traditions, but now but each wine is selected from specific plots, something that they have done since the year 2000, a year that marked a big change in the winery. I feel more balance and better integration of the oak with the wine in recent vintages

vineyard called Zaconia, this wine was first developed by the estate's founder to emulate the great white wines of Graves. Four years in American Oak with a nose of quince, beeswax, verbena and honeycomb and a palate that manages both to be outstandingly decadent yet reassuringly fresh; almonds, agrumes and apricots jump from the glass, you will be especially impressed by the poise and power of the finish.

The nose is a fantastic blend of tropical fruits and minerality; think of green, honey dew and casaba melons being rinsed off in the waters below Bridalveil Falls (or some other granitic Read More...
water source): clean, refreshing, lovely. The palate starts off rich and oily with just a touch of sweetness that is moderated by cleansing acidity. Beautiful spring fruits abound: sweet quince, citrus notes (almost like lemon icing) and plenty of orchard fruits enmesh on the palate with a touch of earthiness and lemon grass on the finish. The final note, however, brings the palate back to the fresh stream water running over granite.
