QUINTA DO VALLADO 2011 RESERVA

WINE SPECTATOR 96 POINTS - “Sinewy yet refined, with impressive power behind the firm, crisp flavors of dark plum, olive and boysenberry, matched to notes of tarragon. Presents focused minerality midpalate, offering a long, vibrant finish of dried wild herb and slate. Best from 2015 through 2022. 500 cases imported.”

2011 Quinta Do Vallado Reserva received 96 points from Wine Spectator it is "Highly Recommended." This wine is a field blend comprised of more than 20 varietals from 90 year-old Estate vineyards, where as most wineries have switched to mechanical treaders fashioned after the human foot Quinta Do Vallado crushes by feet in large stone troughs known in Spain and Portugal as lagares. The winemaker describes this blend as very dark red, with crimson highlights with balsamic oak aromas, as well as fig and black plum and hints of tobacco. The palate shows great structure and balance. Mineral notes mix with the aforementioned fruit, leading to an expressive and complex finish.

“I believe it impossible to think of any other wine region anywhere in the world that has produced better wine in this year,” said British wine critic Jancis Robinson in relation to the Douro Valley 2011 vintage which is being heralded as the greatest vintage of the last 100 years or more. The Duoro Valley experienced perfect conditions for the 2011 vintage: cool spring, hot summer and just enough rain before the grapes were harvested; so as to plump them up and prevent the overripe dried raisin-y character that is so indicative of hotter years to come through.
