STEPHEN TANZER 91 "Bright dark red. Sexy aromas of tangy red berries, Oriental spices, espresso and flowers. Then creamy but very fresh on the palate, with expressive, very pure flavors of raspberry and strawberry. The smooth, long finish boasts lovely sweetness and verve. This wine also strikes me as being less massive than some past vintages."

and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tre is a wine of great character. A dense ruby-red color, this blend shows aromas and flavors of fresh fruit, wild red berry and tomato leaf. This well balanced, medium-bodied wine has fine tannins and a lively acidity on the finish.

LA Times: "Wine of the Week", April 27, 2013.

"Here's a Tuscan red that will roll with any summer menu. "Tre" is a blend of three grapes (mostly Sangiovese, with 10% each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) from Brancaia's three estates in Tuscany. The 2010, easygoing but with character and substance, conjures up the taste of blueberries and dark cherries and something darker and more earthy. Think of it as a strongly drawn secondary character. Maybe not the lead, but I'm happy to open a bottle for dinner at home with friends anytime.

Drink it with pasta fagioli, hearty pasta dishes or antipasti spreads. I'd drink it with meatloaf or a burger too." -S. Irene Virbila

tight structure will ensure longevity. Well-proportioned, but firm on the finish. Needs time to unravel. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2014 through 2025."

Cabreo Il Borgo debuted in 1985 with its 1982 vintage. Just above Greve in the Chianti region, the Cabreo holdings include 50 hectares planted to Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grown to produce Il Borgo. Chianti’s famed stony soils are ideal for making wines with great aging potential. At 300 meters in elevation, the densely planted vineyards produce low yields of grapes with concentration and complexity. Fermentation at controlled temperature with extended maceration enhances the wine’s rich body, color and texture. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are blended and matured in oak barrels and spend at least six months in bottle before release. The word 'borgo' refers to a small village, Montefioralle, that overlooks the vineyards. The nose on this wine is incredibly expressive: spicy fruit, raw meat, moonlit garden, plums and passion fruit, saddle leather and sea salt are among the multitude of wonders that arose from our glasses. The palate followed up quite well, from our notes: "Beautiful. Sweet, but not overly so-- ripe fruit, good tannins, herbals, notes of pencil lead darting between hints of ripe red plums, blackberries, black pepper and underbrush. So tasty! Balance-- a fine line strongly crossed over, a high wire act between being reserved and ebullient: very assured wine."

Layers of sweet red fruit, flowers and spices blossom effortlessly from the 2008 Fontalloro. The intensely saline finish that is present in the Rancia is found in Fontalloro as well. I am usually not the biggest fan of Fontalloro, but there is no denying the superb pedigree and sheer class of the 2008. This is a wonderfully, sophisticated, polished wine from Felsina. In 2008 the slightly drier microclimate at Fontalloro vis-a-vis Rancia is the main reason this wine is such a huge success in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2026."

tannin and high acidity. Sangiovese from Maremma at its best."

A blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon that's both seductively rich and brightly refreshing, from 15-year-old vineyards planted by the Chia family of Montalcino's Castello Romitorio.

Ghiaccio Forte is located in the "Maremma" region of coastal South Western Tuscany. The vineyards are situated on the hills facing the Mediterranean Sea and planted in the generous soil next to the ancient Etruscan enclave called "Ghiaccio Forte." The combination of altitude, southwestern exposure, and rich volcanic soil create in Scansano one of Italy’s most unique micro-climates. Now top Brunello producers like Castello Romitorio have snapped up these vineyards, and the wines are better than ever. Morellino di Scansano as kind of a cross between Chianti Classico's firm structure and leather/earth notes and the fruity exuberance of Rosso di Montalcino.

A balanced, harmonious nose of fruit, spice and nature. Notes of raspberry and strawberry tea leaf lead to rosebud and cherry tobacco, red licorice, red plum, minerality and trails of underbrush; a warm, inviting nose. The palate leads with cherry fruit and silky tannins, watermelon and satsuma plum with a touch of bramble. The acidity is bright and forward keeping the wine balanced as a layer of minerality and a dollop of cherry cola resound nicely in the finish.

The Tuscan project dates to 2001 when Giorgio Rivetti acquired 160 acres near Pisa. There is no Merlot or Cab planted on the estate and no “Super Tuscan” planned for the future. Giorgio Rivetti’s ambitions are to lower yields, constantly improve the farming, and bring to light the character of Regional varieties without International style blending.

the Fedrigo family resided until a few years ago.
The arch, dating from 1500/1600, was one of a series of seven arches along the hillside
path near S. Vito di Negrar. It is a name that awakens memories of the past for Luca
Fedrigo, which he wanted to instill in the wines. Luca’s philosophy proposes like a
young establishment but with an ancient hearth, dynamic and well-based, able to offer a product that is unique for its origins and which retains all the traditions. This blend is made of 40% Syrah, 40% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese aged in French oak barrels for 14 months and 24
in the bottle before its release. This is an extremely stylish and sophisticated wine
known simply as a Super Tuscan. The tannins are supple from the incredible blending of varietals and time in oak. The wine has an intense ruby red color and good complex fruit aromas without excessive hints of oak. With aeration after opening, the wine gradually releases delicate hints of mint, licorice, and pepper.
