styled Brunellos—a great cradle for a Bordeaux-inspired super-Tuscan. “Solengo” was originally created in 1995 by Giacomo Taschis, the same winemaker who helped create “Sassicaia,” “Tignanello” and many of the firstwave of great Super-Tuscans. As Antonio Galloni noted in The Wine Advocate, the 2010 bottling of Solengo is balanced, beautiful, and one of the best wines from a great vintage.

open and resonant, the 2007 is one of the bigger wines made at Castellare over the last three decades. There is an immediacy that is quite appealing, but the wine’s bombastic personality needs some time to settle down. Although delicious today, the 2007 should also age quite well based on its sheer opulence. It is best cellared for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032.

The stars are aligned when wine critics/publications The Wine Advocate (94 pts), Jancis Robinson (17.5/20 = "Superior Plus"), Antonio Galloni (Read More...
94 pts), and The Wine Spectator (92 pts) all applaud one wine.  Did we mention this winery is across the road from Flaccianello?  Yes, this wine is quite special, an outrageous value, and we are excited to bring it to you!

WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "Compared to the sober packaging of Le Redini, the 2010 Cavalli boasts a few design touches that evoke the catwalk feel of father Cavalli. Even the inside of the bottle reveals some of the Rococo aesthetic of the famous fashion designer. This is an extremely opulent, thickly concentrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc that peels back layer after thick layer. Sun-ripened berry, blackberry preserves, spice, cardamom, rum cake, leather and moist chewing tobacco all vie for your attention. Although it’s definitely on the ripe side, the great quality of fruit in 2010 shapes a soft, long-lasting feel in the mouth. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020."

ANTONIO GALLONI 94 POINTS - "The 2010 Tenuta degli Dei is the best wine I have tasted from Tommaso Cavalli. Vibrant, nuanced and wonderfully crystalline in the glass, the 2010 is compelling. Violets, lavender, graphite and plum notes flow into menthol, pine and cloves as the 2010 shows off its personality. Today, the 2010 is positively explosive. The inherent richness of these international grapes grown in Panzano is beautifully complemented by the underlying tension and minerality of the vintage. The 2010 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot and 15% Cabernet Franc, aged in French oak barrels, 50% new."

JANCIS ROBINSON 17.5 - "Impenetrable dark purple crimson. Concentration and depth of dark fruit underlined by pretty cigarbox notes. Open and concentrated on the nose, but the palate is less forthcoming. Elegant palate weight and prominent acidity, with just the right amount of oak. Compact slightly bitter tannins and built for ageing. Seriously good stuff... (WS)"

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "A dark, dense red, sporting concentrated flavors of black cherry, blackberry, sweet spices and black tea. The tannins are present and refined, leaving grip on the finish, as well as room for the cherry and spice notes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2024. 500 cases imported."

palate pliancy. The 2011 is quite typical for the year in its raciness, but it also boasts surprising finesse and brightness. In order to maintain an element of freshness in this warm vintage, proprietor Luca Martini di Cigala added 5% whole bunches, with stems, an approach that has paid off big time. wild flowers, mint, sage and blackberries. Although a wine more of region than variety, the 2010 impresses for its vibrant, structured personality and impeccable class. A big, full-throttle finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2022."

Our customers are all too familiar with the quality of the Brunello di Montalcinos that consistently come out of the cellars of Ciacci Piccolomini (whose origins date back to the 17th century). Now they are offering a wine that may seem to go against the grain of Tuscan standards, if not tradition; In 1989, in the absence of the high quality of fruit the estate expects for its Brunello’s, Ciacci decided not to produce a Brunello di Montalcino. This decision, however, coincided with the first harvest of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from their Estate vineyards. In a move that could only be described at the time as sacrilegious, Ciacci created a “Super Tuscan”! Yes, a wine made with those international grapes; Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Blasphemous! So, they called it “Ateo” which translates…”Atheist”, a wine that defies the prevailing belief system of winemaking in Montalcino, Tuscany and all throughout Italy! Fast forward to the current 2010 version of Ateo, the wine is not only accepted in Montalcino, it is a celebrated success story. The wine had a pinch hit role that found itself in the starting line-up! Only 1000 cases produced.

Fiercely independent and a man of mesmerizing intensity, Luca D’Attoma is one of the best winemakers in Italy. He consults with multiple clients including Le Macchiole, Tua Rita and Fattoria Le Pupille. Duemani is his personal property and winemaking follows his strict biodynamic philosophy.Azienda Agricola Duemani is the ownership property of superstar winemaker Luca d’Attoma (formerly of Tua Rita, and currently at Le Macchiole, pictured above). This winery is the perfect example of what happens when a world-class enologist finally has the chance to buy his own property. Starting completely from scratch, Luca leveled these rolling hillsides in Riparbella, just next to Bolgheri, and planted his fields mainly with his first love: Cabernet Franc. The passion Luca puts into the wines is obvious, as the project has been entirely organic/ biodynamic from the first day. With no neighboring properties, his vineyards are totally isolated from conventional farming. His vineyard density is unusually high, resulting in fruit of exceptional quality The estate is certified biodynamic by Demeter (http://www.demeter.net). As proponents of the principles of biodynamic farming, the cultivation and care of the vineyard’s soil is of the utmost importance to Luca and Elena. They employ various practices throughout the year to stimulate soil vitality and health which in turn provides beneficial nutrients and oxygen to the vines.

JAMES SUCKLING 90 POINTS - "Delicious soft tannins and juicy berry and chocolate fruit character. Full and round. Well-made Rosso di Montepulciano. Better than many Vino Nobles. Drink now."

There is a new vintage here which represents a new level of achievement for Fattoria del Cerro's entry level Rosso-a delicious, layered Sangiovese with bright floral elements and pure cherry fruit. The wine is also much more competitively priced as the importer came to the table with a price that is about $4/bottle less than the previous release. We also have Fattoria del Cerro's Tre Bicchieri winning Vino Nobile in the store, but for pure value and accessibility, the estate's Rosso is unbeatable.

cherry and berry on the nose and palate. Full and long. Chewy. The new wood could stand to have a little less barley flavor, but the fruit is fabulous. Takes off on the finish. Best after 2012. 5,000 cases made."

JAMES SUCKLING 95 POINTS - "Lots of ripe fruit with a smoky, meaty, bacon, and cherry character – even dried mango and other fruits. Full and round tannins with bright acidity and an intense finish. Loads going on here. New wood is a little overpowering now but will come around wonderfully. Give it three to four years of bottle age still."

WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "The 2007 Flaccianello della Pieve captures the essence of this great Tuscan vintage. It is a decidedly sexy, opulent wine bursting at the seams with rich red berries, mint and spices. The tannins are present but virtually undetectable under layer after layer of fruit. There is no question the 2007 is seamless, opulent and full-bodied. Readers who prefer more structured wines will gravitate to vintages such as 2001 and 2004. I find the 2007 utterly irresistible. It will also drink better earlier than some of the most classic vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027."
