TOMMASI 2010 POGGIO AL TUFO ROMPICOLLO

Poggio al Tufo is a new project in Maremma, Tuscany started by Tommasi, one of the most important quality producers in the Veneto since 1902. Seeing a tremendous potential to produce wines in this part of Tuscany, the family purchased 163 acres of land in 1997. The Poggio al Tufo property is located in Pitigliano, a historical Etruscan city situated one hour north of Rome. The vineyards are located in Alta Maremma, 1,000 feet above sea level just 15 miles away from the Mediterranean, the soil is rich in tufo, a mineral rich type of volcanic rock.

Tommasi is historically and today a standard bearer of the Amarone appellation, and one of the most important quality producers in the Veneto. The family owns 370 acres and only works with the grapes they grow, an important quality decision and reflection of their deep connection to the soil.

60 % Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
The grapes come from a single vineyard site called “Rompicollo.” This rich, elegant, full bodied wine is fermented in stainless steel and matured in large Slovenian Oak Casks for 12 months. Rompicollo has an intense bouquet of ripe red cherries, coffee and plums notes, with beautiful structure and persistent length. This is an unbeatable Tuscan Red for the price.
