as tame as you can put it; this is a ribald sweet wine with acidic backbone and hugely intense flavors of baked brown sugar, cinnamon cake and molasses. Powerful but still racy due to bracing acidity. About as good as it gets with PX.

that I have included in this report. For example, “Manyetes” was a project begun in 1999 that seeks out old vines. The 2009 Manyetes is a blend of 90% Carinena and 10% Garnacha from hot, south-facing slopes and comes under the “Vi de Villa” denomination mentioned in the introduction. It has a lifted bouquet with dark cherries, sloes, lavender and a touch of white pepper with fine delineation, all wrapped in a touch of warm alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with smooth, rounded tannins, layers of precise, peppery red fruit cut through with fine acidity. It has a firm tannic backbone and is quite masculine and tertiary, with an edgy, mineral-rich finish. This is very expressive of the grape variety, a Carinena full of personality and charm, though I would not touch a bottle for 5-6 years.

Made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo, this wine embodies ripe fruit qualities with a perfect balance of acidity and supple roundness on the palate, and a hint of new oak. Our Red Reserva is a traditional Rioja with the classic Murrieta signature and enjoys all the benefits of modern winemaking philosophy, equipment and techniques.
The Marqués de Murrieta Red Reserva pairs well with red meats and cured ham as well as grilled fish and dishes with rich sauces. We recommend you decant the wine half an hour before serving it at 60-65 ºF.

Vine work is adapted and controlled for each grape variety inorder to get a quality vintage of the Bullas D.O., the Monastrell, although some other varieties such as Syrah are planted. The wine Lavia is the result of the union of these factors and devoted work outside and inside the cellar. It is elaborated with the grape varieties Monastrell (70%) and Syrah (30%). The wine-making process also has a strict control. The tanksare small (5000 and 10,000 kg) and are made of stainless steel. The grapes enter into them via gravity action, avoiding the use of pumps. The entry-level Lavia is in tank for 1 year on the lees. The wine remains in repose until the get the perfect harmony from the blend. This wine is showing beautiful bouquet now that it's been in bottle since 2006. The color shows a concentration of violet at the core and on the palate; the wine is pure class. Soft, feminine tannins belie the burly reputation that Monastrell has been painted as by other wines and winemakers in Yecla and Jumilla. The flavors are still bright, with dry red berry fruits and earthy tones with structured tannins that fill the mouth. Lavia's Bullas Monastrell is balanced, fruit-driven and silky in its finish. This wine will continue to evolve in bottle for 5-7 years.
WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS - The 2005 Lavia is 70% Monastrell and 30% Syrah fermented and aged in stainless steel. It offers up a spicy, fragrant, earthy, blueberry-accented bouquet. On the palate it has excellent concentration and balance, pure flavors, and a lengthy finish with no hard edges.

Muga is one of the great names in Spanish winemaking and has been a cornerstone of our Spanish wine selections for at least 20 years. The “Prado Enea” is the longest lived and most traditional bottling from Muga—always an impressively balanced wine showing finesse and power; floral delicacy and deep black fruit. Neal Martin from The Wine Advocate recently visited the Bodega and tasted four vintages from four decades—the 1970, 1981, 1991, and 2005. As we’d expect, the reviews were filled with superlatives (and an average score of 94.5pts). We know these wines are great now, but what happens to a wine you suspect can age a long time, 20, 30, or 40 years down the road? The answer is in the series of reviews from the August Wine Advocate: “vibrant,” “amazingly fresh and vital,” “a complex, cerebral bouquet,” “a complex array of flavors,”... Of course we recognize most of us won’t age a wine 30 or 40 years, but the 2004 vintage is truly special in Rioja and this favorite bottling Muga is exemplary. It is one of those “now and forever” kind of wines. With a decanter and 20 minutes of patience you will see the many layers of greatness of the 2004 Muga.
