banks of the River Duero in themid-1980s that seemed to bring together the ideal conditions to become one of the best vineyards of the region. Ithad a gentle south-facing slope that ended in the river and different soils composed of gravel, clay and gypsum thatpromised to produce the nuances needed to create complex wines from Tempranillo. The results of his discoveryspeak from the bottle and more than a few critics have heard the call.

INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR 91 POINTS "Dark ruby. Explosive aromas of dark berry and cherry preserves, with smoke, game and violet accents. Plush and expansive, offering spicy cherry and cassis flavors and notes of candied flowers and bitter chocolate. Vanilla and cracked pepper build with air and carry through a long, sappy and gently tannic finish. Incidentally, the 2008 bottling of this wine is drinking very well right now, with plenty of juicy dark berry character and brightening minerality; no rush to drink it but no crime to do so now, either."

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS - "Juicy black cherry and red plum flavors mingle with notes of licorice, black pepper and toast in this firm, fresh red. Displays enough structure for food but remains balanced and lively."

WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS "The 2009 Condado de Haza Crianza undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrique where it ages for 15 months. It offers a lovely ripe, yet controlled bouquet of raspberry, kirsch and incense that blossom with aeration. You can almost smell that Ribera warmth! The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins over-layering a sweet core of red fruit. It is playful and joyful, belying its fine structure and citric fresh finish. This is a wonderful wine from Condada de Haza."

comparably modern, but with sense of balance and restraint that gives them amazing elegance and great longevity. Simply put, this is modern Rioja executed perfectly.
The nose of sea salt, loamy earth and cedar box leads to a palate of soft flavors and uplifting tannins; dried cherry with touches of dark florals violets). This is very refined wine but with the right tannic balance. Contino's Rioja also boasts a healthy 10% dollop of Graciano, which enhances the wine's color, freshness and ageability.

and vanilla on the nose, with suave tobacco and cedar nuances adding complexity. Sweet and open-knit red fruit flavors gain weight and depth with air, picking up licorice and cocoa powder qualities and a touch of floral pastilles. Cune has forever been Hi-Time Staff 1 or our top 2 wineries in Rioja. We have had the privilege through out the years of tasting their Gran Reservas as far back as the 50’s. Our reactions are always the same, we ooh and awe, treasuring every sip. Just recently Wine Spectator’s Top 100 garnered Cune Imperial 2004 Gran Reserva as their #1 Wine of the Year. A truly fantastic vintage and yes, we sold out earlier in the year. We are able to offer their 2005 Gran Rerserva, which is another stellar year for Rioja. Limited supply.

Graceful and silky on the palate, the wine evolves nicely in the glass and brings a fair amount of complexityand richness to bear for the price. The aim here is to keep the freshness. Forty percent of the wine is aged in concrete vats, while the rest is matured in clay amphorae and used oak. The result is a restrained, soil-driven red with earthy notes, black fruit, licorice and subtle Mediterranean herbs with some floral overtones and no traces of oak. The palate is medium-bodied, with clean, penetrating flavors, lively acidity and a long finish. A delicious, serious red showing balance and personality. What more can you ask for? Drink now-2018."

Husband and wife team Sara Pérez and René Barbier (Fils) are the children of two of the great pioneers of the Priorat D.O., Josep Lluis Pérez of Mas Martinet and René Barbier of Clos Mogador. Sara and René are both very well respected vignerons in their own right, so it seemed natural that they should start a project together. For this project, they decided to stake their claim not in Priorat, but in the slightly sleepier D.O. of Monsant.

The grapes for the wines come from an approximate total of four hectares of vineyards which are owned by four different grape-growing families in Falset as well as another small plot owned by Venus. One could call Venus a négociant project, but it is more accurate to say that it is a partnership between these four families and René and Sara. Venus is these small growers’ only client, so their vineyards are farmed in accordance with the rigorous ecological standards set by the couple. The grapes for Dido come from the Falset area, from vineyards with soils based on decomposed granite called sauló. These soils are poor in organic matter and they contribute to producing grapes with great ripeness and fruit flavors. The grapes for Venus come from clay-calcareous soils between Marçà and Guiamets. These soils encourage a slow, elegant and complex ripeness.

In 2006, he began working with a select group of growers willing to convert their old vines vineyards into organically- and ultimately biodynamicallyfarmed sites with the goal of unleashing the potential of Ribera by creating the purest expression possible.

STEPHEN TANZER 90 POINTS " Glass-staining ruby. Dark berry, bitter chocolate and potpourri on the perfumed nose. Spicy, penetrating black and blue fruit flavors show impressive clarity and lift, with a zesty mineral nuance adding bite. Smooth and seamless on the subtly tannic finish, which leaves juicy blueberry and violet pastille notes behind."

Silky and open-knit, offering juicy dark berry and violet pastille flavors and a touch of mocha. The floral note carries through on the finish, which features soft tannins and slow-building spiciness. As usual, this is a fantastic value.”

This year, the “Codice” is undeniable, a seductive mix of pretty, spicy Tempranillo fruit with just enough oak to add depth and richness. We shouldn’t have been surprised as the Eguren family also own Protocolo, Sierra Cantabria, Teso de la Monja and more. Marcos Eguren is one of Spain’s most respected winemakers—this “Codice” bottling shows what Marcos can do, even with fruit from humbler appellations.
