at the boundary of the marine layer, ensuring that the cool, coastal climate delays ripening well beyond the warmer vineyards to the east. The fourteen-year-old vines grow on sandy, low-vigor Goldridge soil, which helps reduce yields to near two tons per acre.

ANTONIO GALLONI 93+ POINTS - "Anthill Farms is on a roll. Anthony Filiberti seems to have the magic touch when it comes to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, as these new releases are brilliant. Even though they had been bottle not to long before my visit, the 2013s shows very well. Filiberti describes 2013 as an intense growing season with a harvest tha last three weeks instead of the more typical 2 months or so. As always, the Anthill wines are made in a lifted, aromatic style, with considerable stem influence and an expression of fruit that seeks ripeness at lower sugar levels. Aging in mostly neutral oak seems to allow the unique personalities of each of these sites to be expressive. Pinots make up the largest part of the range, but I personally am a huge fan of Syrah. These remain some of the most distinctive wines being made in California today. Best of all, prices remain incredibly sane. The only problem is finding the wines, as production is extremely limited."

"Anthill's 2013 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard is pungent and bold, with expressive savory aromatics, layered fruit and fabulous overall balance. This is one of the darker, more brooding wines in the range. Crushed flowers, mint, raspberries and pine are laced into the textured, super-expressive finish. Readers will have to give the 2013 a bit of time in bottle for the firm, incisive tannins to soften after which the wine should be absolutely fabulous. There is a lot to look forward to in the Campbell Ranch."

coming from the Pacific Ocean. This climate is well suited to the more delicate, early-ripening varieties such as Chardonnay because the fruit develops more slowly and consistently, resulting in wines of exceptional flavor, complexity, and character.

This Chardonnay has tropical aromatics with notes of citrus, crème brulee and integrated oak. It has a round, lush mouthfeel with balanced acidity and a long finish of orange peel, tangerine and toasted almond.

It’s easy to say that Morgan Twain-Peterson was born into the wine industry… so let’s start there. Morgan is the son of legendary Ravenswood winemaker and Zinfandel legend Joel Peterson. Read More...
At the age of 5, Morgan was able to distinguish Merlot from Zinfandel, and being the son of Joel, that made for some early learning of winemaking basics and eventually the essential techniques for fine winemaking. But Joel didn’t stop there. He went onto other wineries and regions to learn other methods, like working in the McLaren Vale region of Australia, and even working as a visiting winemaker at Château Lynch Bages in Bordeaux. Oh yeah…and he passed the Master of Wine exam!

Morgan only works with high quality fruit from high quality sites and ferments them in open top redwood and stainless steel fermenters then ages them in the sexiest French barrels from the coldest forests. The results are tremendous wines that range in style from opulent to elegant, yet taste exceptionally balanced!

ANTONIO GALLONI 90 POINTS - "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is terrific, although not quite the screaming value it once was. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, spices, mint and gravel meld into the voluptuous, racy finish. There are plenty of Knights Valley signatures in this succulent, deeply expressive Cabernet from Beringer."

What we like about this wine is that it reminds us of something from Burgundy, like a Macon, yet still shows its Sonoma roots. The wine has a clean nose of crème freche, apple, minerals and a slight toasted almond note. These carry through to the palate joining round peach, smoke, spice, and honeycomb. It strikes the perfect balance of acidity and structure.

Most Sauvignon Blancs at this price are crisp yet simple, but Buena Vista brings us a medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc showcasing aromas of sea salt, smoke, and citrus peel, such as lemon and lime. It also shows some warm spiciness, green cardamom, anise, sweet hay and honeydew. The lime peel and honeydew carry over on the palate, leading to a clean and fresh, lingering finish.

As the name would imply, this wine is in honor of The Count of Buena Vista, a tireless and passionate devotee of Californian wines. From prestigious vineyards across Sonoma, The Count's intriguing varietals intermingle seamlessly to produce an elegant and complex wine. Individual lots of Zinfandel, Syrah, and Merlot were fermented separately and aged for 16 months in American, Hungarian, and French oak barrels before final assemblage. The wine's bouquet opens beautifully with rich aromas of black currant, cherries, grilled meat, pepper, and just a hint of espresso. Smooth on the palate, the wine offers flavors of red fruit compote, plum, raspberries, and blackberry that give way to cardamom on the long, silky finish.

career that includes prominent wineries such as Jordan, Pine Ridge and Peter Michael. He specializes in small lots of vineyard designated Pinot Noir that express the unique location from which they came.

All the vineyards are contracted on a by-the-acre rather than a “per-ton” basis. This means he pays a set fee for the acreage guarantying the grower cash for his crop regardless of the tonnage. This allows him to prune, shoot-thin and drop crop for low yields that result in only high quality grapes. His winemaking style is a blend of classic and contemporary, utilizing cutting edge fermentation equipment paired with natural hands on winemaking, and an emphasis on balance. All the wines are naturally fermented and unfined and unfiltered to preserve their innate flavors and aromas.

This wine is crafted from blending several Northern California vineyard sites to create one comprehensive expression of elegant and opulant Pinot Noir. Vineyards include Widdoes, Wilson, Cap's Crown, and just a splash of Pisoni!

and quinine is marked by a hint of lanolin (no doubt from the Semillon). On the palate, medium-full bodied with a pleasant viscosity. Flavors of lemon, quinine, and grapefruit persist through the dry, mineral-laden finish. If you prefer oaky and/or low acid whites, then this wine is not for you. But if you love white Bordeaux, dry whites from the Loire or Savoie, or even some the cool old-vine white blends from the Swartland in South Africa, then this wine should be right up your ally. Enjoyable now as long as you don’t serve it too cold (a decant helps as well), given the zesty acidity and pleasing phenolics in the finish, we suspect this wine will age well. Enjoy from 2016 through 2023."
