licorice and cola. Rosso di Montalcino is one of Italy's most food-friendly wines (think pasta, grilled sausage and lasagna) and this wine is a good example of why. Fresh acidity and easy tannins offer a smooth and informal drinking experience.

Rosso’s from Montalcino are, in essence, “baby” Brunello. If you’ve always been enamored with wine from Montalcino, Uccelliera has to be one of the benchmarks. The wine is 100% Sangiovese, but we’re talking about a different clone than what is used in Chianti. Here we get a wine that has more of everything and by that I mean breadth and amplification when compared to Chianti Classico (which is why Chianti producers make a Riserva). With Uccelliera’s it’s an unadulterated love affair. It’s fresh, rich, and powerful, but being a Rosso di Montalcino, just plain easy to drink!

over the past decade. This may be the best Brunello ever released by this boutique estate in the Piancornello subzone of the appellation. Most notable and compelling is the seamless integration of flavor and texture that is not easily achieved with the finicky Sangiovese grape. The wine opens to a dark ruby hue with aromas of dried cherry, cassis, blue flower, ginger and balsam herb. You get lingering mineral tones that create a sense of focus and sharpness. I tasted the wine very young, but am confident of the aging potential of this timeless Brunello. It should be a delight to revisit in ten years."

rich finish. Salty and savory. Layers of gorgeous fruit. Drink or hold."

WINE ADVOCATE 93+ POINTS - Altesino's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino stands proud among its peers. No other wine I tasted among the new releases in Montalcino achieves this unique level of aromatic finesse and distinction. The bouquet is almost purely floral in character with a strong emphasis on pressed rose petal, dried violets and potpourri. The fruit tones are less emphatic and include bright cherry and red currant. In the mouth, the wine's compressed texture is accented by fennel seed and licorice. the 2009 vintage had more power and heat, but this version shows elegant restraint."

This is a pre-arrival with the wine expected to arrive in the spring of 2015

WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "Fattoria dei Barbi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino starts with a tightly wound personality that begins to unravel slowly, one delicate layer at a time. As it does, you become aware of dried fruit, cigar box, crushed mineral, plum, tar and cola. The wine puts on a beautiful display. I also loved the mouthfeel of this beautiful wine: It is tonic, tight and brimming with energy. Well-integrated oak notes give the wine a spot of softness and velvety spice. This is one beautiful Sangiovese. Stefano Cinelli Colombini has released a fine set of new wines and his base Brunello truly shines in the 2010 vintage. The wines are well priced and immediately attractive."

Sangiovese and the Montalcino territory. The wine offers a pristine narrative of both grape and place with crystalline aromas of cherry, blackberry, spice, leather, smoke and Mediterranean herb. The bouquet peels back one delicious layer at a time. The mouthfeel is similarly successful with deep concentration and complexity. It imparts soft layers of dried fruit and velvety tannins. Endnotes of espresso bean and toasted almond add length and momentum. There's even spot of chewy sweetness that is typical of the warm 2009 vintage."

This truly exceptonal Brunello satisfies even the toughest of critics. It is exceptionally powerful, yet elegant, made in a neo-classic style that is pleasing from the first sip. flavors as well as lightly salty undertones. Drink or hold."

WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "Almost salty in taste, featuring licorice, kirsch, raspberry and tobacco aromas and flavors. Supple in texture, with a light grain to the underlying tannins. Shows fine length, revealing echoes of cherry on the finish. Best from 2017 through 2030. 250 cases made."

ANTONIO GALLONI 92 POINTS - "Camigliano 2010 Brunello di Montalcino races across the palate with gorgeous depth and intensity. The style is super-ripe, racy and fruit-forward as this decidedly opulent Brunello shows off its distinctive personality. Hints of spice, cherry pit and crushed flowers add nuance on the resonant finish, but the 2010 is first and foremost a wine to enjoy for its unapologetically sumptuous expression of Sangiovese."

WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "From one of the most time-tested estates in Montalcino, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a beautiful appearance that is dark ruby and saturated, but not exaggeratedly extracted. In fact, the 2010 vintage is noticeably more elegant and feminine compared to past vintages from Camigliano that produces wine that often taste jammy and overripe. In fact, the mouthfeel doesn't even offer the obvious fruit you might expect. Instead, it shows a tight weave of spice, rosemary oil and blackcurrant. This wine is all about small details and needs a few more years to complete its evolution. Camigliano's wines usually stand out for the ripeness of the fruit obtained in this lower-elevation subzone of the appellation. In hot years, the wines can feel overtly jammy and sweet. But Camigliano shows very satisfactory results in the balanced 2010 vintage. Its Brunello is vibrant and pristine and does a wonderful job of portraying authentic Camigliano Sangiovese. This unique interpretation is distinctly characteristic of this specific area. I also wanted to draw attention to Camigliano's 2013 Rosso di Montalcino that turned out to be one of my absolute favorites."

from the minute the wine is poured from the bottle. As you should expect, it just gets better and better with each additional minute in the glass. It opens to a vibrant dark ruby color and blackish-garnet hues. The bouquet is ever changing and shows a long succession of aromatic characteristics that rage from dark fruit, plum, spice, leather, licorice, red rose, balsam and grilled herb. It's textbook Brunello from a great vintage and this side of the appellation (on the northeastern side) performs fantastically in 2010. This beauty should hold fifteen years or more."

JAMES SUCKLING 96 POINTS - "A ripe and rich intense wine with blackberry, plum and mineral character that goes to mushroom and peppermint. Full body, fine tannins and a juicy finish. So long and beautiful. Absolutely delicious now. But will be even better in three or four years."

WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "Caprili's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows unique aromas with undertones of forest floor and wet earth with grilled herbs and dark fruit. You also get a heavier tone of dried fig and Graham cracker that distinguishes this particular expression of Sangiovese. The wine is smooth and polished with a nice sense of inner elegance. Silky tannins give Giacomo Bartolommei's Brunello more immediacy and a more approachable drinking window. I very much appreciated the wine's overall elegance."

flavorful finish. This is dense, tight, powerful, compressed and incredibly structured. Needs four to five years of bottle age to come out of its dormancy."

WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a ripe and fruit-forward expression that bursts with energy and red fruit intensity even at this young stage in the wine's life. Thick layers of cherry, blackberry, cassis, vanilla and cinnamon give the wine a bold, opulent personality. The tannins are super tame and docile, even for this more structured vintage. The wine boasts a medium build with bright garnet and ruby highlights. I think Castiglion del Bosco does a great job of executing and delivering this softer style of Brunello that works so well as a companion to the hearty, wintery foods we love most. You can drink it in the near or long term. It has that level of aging flexibility. The 2010 vintage is a great one to taste and buy. Massimo Ferragamo's Castiglion del Bosco shows the fruits of hard labor and major winery investments with the 2010 vintage. This stellar vintage shows us what his vineyards are capable of because the quality of fruit is so good. I can't wait to try the vineyard-designate Campo del Drago Brunello that was not ready at the time of my tasting. The house style favors softness and opulence, but this vintage adds the structure and brightness for truly great wines and longer drinking windows."

WINE ADVOCATE 94+ POINTS - "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino represents a return to the traditional values of Montalcino. The bouquet is buoyant and bright with lingering tones of smoke, ash, balsam herb, licorice and soy sauce. Those kinds of aromas make Brunello such a wonderful wine and thankfully you get them in abundance here. Dry mineral and brimstone also give the wine a sense of focus, sharpness and cleanliness that is very appealing. The close is long, fine and polished. I look forward to retasting this bottle five years from now."

The wine sees one more year of oak cask aging compared to the base Brunello and you can definitely sense the extra spice on the nose. Those delicate balsam notes of root beer, ginger and rosemary oil are still prominently on display. Rich spice, leather and tar are followed by dark fruit, prune, blackberry and cassis. The finish is graceful and silky, but its length remains impressive. This is a terrific effort that promises a steady evolution ahead."

JAMES SUCKLING 98 POINTS - "Aromas of lilac, dark berry and sandalwood follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and an intense and savory finish. Very intense and very long. Succulent. Amazing balance and depth to this red. It's so beautiful to taste now but it will be much better in five to ten years. A triumph."

This is the star for Ciacci Piccolomini, year in and year out—this Brunello is highly traditional in style. The wine is fermented in glass-lined cement and stainless steel tanks and aged in Slavonian oak botti for 36 months. “Pianrosso” is absolutely gorgeous and rich brunello, with complex aromas of red fruits, flowers, licorice and spice, that only gets better with age.

WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is surprisingly subdued on first nose and a little unsteady on its feet at this young stage. Give it time and the wine gracefully brings out a long chorus line of aromas that hit the high notes and well and the low ones in slow increments. The bouquet is redolent of small forest berry, white ash, smoke, licorice, balsam herb and delicate spice. It's important to underline the extremely elegant and feminine personality of this wine. This Brunello has no place to go but up in terms of its complexity and evolution. Put it aside for at least five more years before popping the cork."

WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a dark garnet color and pretty layers of dried cherry, blackberry, delicate spice, leather and tobacco. There's a soft side to this young Brunello that has been finessed by the oak to render an almost-immediate approach. It looks ready to drink in three years or so, and may require less aging time than many of its peers in this vintage. The wine closes strong with bright acidity and very attractive notes of dark fruit and spice. Some Brunellos call out for a juicy cut of succulent red meat by their side, and this is one of those wines."

it hits the nose with a wonderful medley of ripe, dark fruit, spice, tar, tobacco, leather and dried herbs. The wine is impeccably made and the quality of fruit is outstanding. Ultimately, your patronage of this brand depends on whether you like this bold, softer style. If you do, this Brunello delivers satisfaction in spades. Fleshy oak tones of cinnamon and clove round off the finish. It is extremely soft and smooth to the touch. This wine can be enjoyed in the near or long-term. Donatella Cinelli Colombini has gained a loyal fan base over the years. She is an able communicator, but more importantly she has steadily maintained consistency in quality wines throughout last ten years that I have been following her work. I can't ever remember being disappointed in her wines and this batch of new releases is some of her best work yet."

Donatella Cinelli Colombini was born into a family of wine producers and her ancestors were owners of these Tuscan estates dating back to the end of the 16th century. Donatella has always had a passion for wine and was instrumental in greatly expanding wine tourism in Tuscany. In 1998, she decided to focus on winemaking and contacted the enology school in Siena to see if she could hire a good student. She was told she had to wait a year, however there were many “women wine technicians” available. This is how the Prime Donne Project started, eventually growing into an entirely female staff including the enologist. The wines of Colombini are refined, complex and harmonious.

The 2010 vintage marks an unprecedented year for Tuscany’s much beloved Sangiovese-based red, Brunello di Montalcino. Winemakers, the wine press, and seasoned wine professionals unanimously agree that this is the Brunello vintage of a lifetime, even outclassing the outstanding 2006 and 1997 vintages.
