of budwood. Some of these vineyards had unclaimed grapes, and since the quality was high, Tablas Creek stepped in and began to produce this "hometown" bottling.

Comprised of 45% Grenache Blanc, 34% Viognier, 18% Roussanne, and 3% Marsanne, the 2011 Patelin de Tablas Blanc shows fruity, floral aromas of honeysuckle, apricot and candied grapefruit, with a spicy mineral note emerging with air. In the mouth it's mouth-filling with peach and lemon zest flavors and a creamy texture, but kept fresh by vibrant acids. The finish is long, rich and clean, with lingering flavors of peach and mineral. Drink now and for the next 2-3 years.

Tablas Creek are nothing new (but they are still exciting), their Patelin bottlings are new. This blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Counoise comes from their Westside Paso neighbors who have planted vineyards using Tablas clones. In theory, this Patelin red should be tight, young, and tart…but on the contrary, this wine is rich, concentrated and immensely delicious. In fact, our buyer wouldn't spit this wine out! Deep ruby/garnet in color, the nose is loaded with Asian spices, raspberry, black cherry, and orange marmalade while the palate follows suit and adds hints of grilled meats, graphite, and cocoa. Rich, flavorful, and with silky tannins, this is a great value in wine, and one that just may make you ask yourself why you haven't tried these wines before!

the southern Rhône, though the blend of grapes is predominantly Mourvèdre, and therefore more like the solid, dry rosés of Bandol than the lighter Grenache-based Tavel.

All the grapes for this wine come from Tablas Creek's organically farmed vineyard. The 2012 Dianthus is cranberry in color, with an expressive nose of watermelon rind, rose petals, plum, and mineral. The mouth is rich but vibrant, with flavors of wild strawberry, pomegranate, plum and lime, and a long, rich finish that is both fresh and spicy. Pair it with Mediterranean cuisine, Spanish tapas, preparations with garlic and olive oil... or just enjoy it outside on a sunny day.

is bottled. The grapes are harvested then each varietal is separately fermented and barrel aged for 18 months. Doing this develops more complexity in each varietal and also allows for the very best blend to be assembled. The blend for this vintage is 53% Zinfandel, 35% Carignane, 6% Alicante Bouschet, 5% Petite Sirah, and 1% Black Malvasia.

The Zinfandel and Carignane come from the Johnson’s vineyard in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County. The fruit ripens at lower brix giving the blend red fruit high tones, bright acidity, and structure. The remaining fruit is grown by Dan Gonsalves in Oakley, Contra Costa County. This fruit gives the wine its dark fruit aromatics and much of its silky mouth feel and body.

distinct blackberry aromas.

This is a wine of weight and balance. The flavors are intense with extract of black currants and blackberry concentrate. A dusting of nutmeg and cracked peppercorns adds savory components while ample chewy tannin adds to the power and texture of the wine. The wine is almost purple-black in color. Thirty minutes of decanting will enhance the dark berry flavors. This blockbuster wine will go best with hearty flavors, like grilled and roasted meats, bitter vegetables, strong cheeses and anything with lots of garlic.

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Vivid blueberry, licorice and blackberry aromatics leap out of the glass, but on the palate the flavors are dense and delicious, with touches of spice and vanillin that give this a profile of cobbler à la mode. Features dense tannins, but stays polished. Drink now through 2022. 208 cases made."
