the nose, with majestic flavors of strawberries, currants, black cherries, sandalwood, and touch of rawhide in the mouth. Ripe, rich, and full-bodied, yet still shows acid on the finish. The modest tannin, good structure, and lively make this a great food wine!

ROBERT PARKER'S THE WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "McPrice Myers continues to churn out outstanding, singular and age-worthy wines under his McPrice Myers label. Both of his late release 2011s showed beautifully, and the 2012s are a step up. The 2012s buck the vintage stereotype and have enough tannin and concentration to warrant short-term cellaring. In addition, these efforts always have a savory, structured style that should appeal to both Old and New World wine lovers."

"Probably my favorite Grenache from McPrice to date, the 2012 Grenache L'Ange is 100% Grenache and spent 16 months in 20% new French oak. It offers beautiful kirsch, pepper and spice-box-like qualities to go with medium to full-bodied richness, a great mid-palate and a structured, tight profile that needs another year or so in the cellar. It's a rock star Grenache from Paso that will drink well through 2022."

"Starting with his whites and made in richer style, with classic apricot, ripe peach and exotic flower notes, the 2012 Viognier Larner Vineyard stays clean and focused on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and texture. This is a full-flavored effort that would pass undetected in a lineup of Condrieu. Drink it over the coming year or so."

charts good! While both of the Chardonnays are beautiful, and play in the clean, crisp and medium-bodied spectrum, itís the 2012 Pinot Noirs and Syrahs that are incredible across the board. The Pinot Noirs all see varying degrees of whole cluster and are aged completely in neutral French oak barrels. The Syrahs see slightly less whole cluster inclusion, but are also aged all in neutral French oak. In case you missed the prices/scores listed above, these are some of the greatest values in the world of wine today!"

"One of the finest Syrahs to come out of California, the 2012 Syrah Donnaís is inky black to the rim and offers up heavenly notes of smoked bacon, liquid rock, iron and assorted currant and blackberry fruit. Fabulously concentrated, with full-bodied richness, no hard edges and building tannin, this incredible Syrah comes off from sandy soils, was 60% destemmed and aged 18 months in neutral oak. Picked over a three day period in mid November, the fruit for this wine comes exclusively from Melville's Santa Rita Hills estate and is a combination of two different Syrah clones (Read More...
Estrella and Clone 99). The Estrella is from Donnaís block which is planted on well drained, nutrient deficient sand. The neutrality of this soil always lends an intoxicating and high toned bouquet of flowers and spice while the Clone 99 from Block I is planted on denser sandy loam soil, bringing depth and richness to the resultant wine. 15% whole cluster fermented in small 1.5 ton bins, total skin and stem contact averaged 30 days (7 day cold soak, 2+ weeks fermentation, and 1+ week extended maceration). From the press the wine was transferred directly to neutral barrels (5-20 year old French oak) where it remained sur lie with no sulfur until May when it was gently pressure racked for the first time and prepared for bottling in August.

Inky garnet in color, fresh and vivid aromatics of boysenberry cream, plum cobbler, allspice and mincemeat emanate from the glass. In the background, herbal notes of Mexican oregano, fennel seed, clove and chili powder intermingle with deeper components of liquid smoke, menthol and roasted blue corn. The palate impression is tender and polished with a firm presence finishing with significant weight and focus.

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "Another wine that represents one of the top values around, the 2013 Syrah Estate offers incredible notes of liquid smoke, ground pepper, olive tapenade and tons of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, textured and concentrated, it sill has remarkable purity and precision. Coming from the Sta. Rita Hills and aged 10 months in neutral oak, it's a gorgeous wine that readers shouldn't miss."

windier then Melville's Sta. Rita Hills property during the growing season, this estate has proven wellsuited for growing this aromatic Rhone varietal. The fruit was gently whole cluster pressed, transferred to neutral barrels (5-20 year French oak), cold-fermented at 45įF for three months and prepared for bottling in late March. Cold fermentation, neutral vessels and the avoidance of malo-lactic fermentation were employed to retain the wineís freshness and exotic expressions. Yields were 3.2 lbs/vine (3.0 tons/acre).

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS - "The 2013 Viognier Estate Vernaís is another outstanding effort from Greg that also represents a smoking value. Giving up classic apricot, pineapple and loads of floral qualities (almost a flower oil-like quality) to go with a medium-bodied, unctuously textured, yet still surprisingly fresh and focused style on the palate. Aged 6 months in neutral oak, itís an impressive Viognier to enjoy over the coming year or two."

Notes from Winemaker Nicolas Elliot: "Buxom 2012 is a blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Grenache, with the fruit coming from La Vista and Law vineyards. For 2012, Buxom once again looks to be one of the best wines of the vintage for Nicora. This wine never fails to keep me intrigued and on my toes. By selecting from some of the best barrels of Syrah, I am able to fine-tune it every year. On the nose I get licorice, charred meat, clove and vanilla. On the palate, there is dark chocolate, coffee and blackberry, with a slight note of smoke and tar on the finish. I recommend decanting if for four hours, and it often shows best the second day. This wine will easily age for 7-10 years."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "The largest cuvee from Nicora, there's a scant 198 cases of the 2012 Buxom. Made from 94% Syrah and 6% Grenache, it has tons of spice and white pepper to go with black raspberry, dried herb and leather nuances. Full-bodied, rich, decadent and sexy, with a big, heady finish, it shows a touch of its alcohol, yet is still a fun drink."

Notes from Winemaker Nicolas Elliot: "The Undisclosed was made with a lot of the same thought process that goes into the red wines I produce. The Viognier was picked very ripe and has all of the wonderful aromatic and viscous qualities that I look for in a Paso Robles Viognier. The Roussanne was picked with a bit more restraint and provides the backbone of the acidity while adding unique stone fruit flavors. This wine is very rich in taste yet still vibrant enough to enjoy on a summer day. On the nose and palate, there are amazing tropical-fruit qualities that remind me of mango, dried pineapple, and wet stone. These are coupled with pear, honey and apricot that is most likely from the Roussanne component. Even early in its youth, this wine is showing very well and will continue to age for many years to come. My best guess is that this wine will easily hold up for 5 years or more. This wine has gone through full malolactic fermentation adding to it's richness. This is very limited in production."

like GKG Cabernet Sauvignon and Stanton Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon out of Oakville. A handful of years back, Dave made this Petite Syrah-driven blend called Machete that blew our minds, showcasing loads of black fruits, hints of chocolate with this seamless texture from front to back, ending with lip-smacking, chewy yet integrated tanninsÖ. The wine seemed to have disappeared just as quickly as it was released with everyone clamoring for more! Yet for some reason the bottling was not reproduced in the subsequent vintages much to the dismay of Orin Swift followers.

Out of the blue last spring, we heard through the grapevine that Dave was resurrecting the Machete label with a 2012 offering and it would be released by summer. After much anticipation, the wine arrived in racy new packaging but after uncorking a bottle we were pleasantly surprised that the wine was reminiscent to our cataloged memory of the original and over-delivered for its price point! Well, now we have a limited amount of the 2013 vintage which for California was an outstanding year even better than the 2012 growing season.

Characteristics of this release as described by Dave - ďAn opaque, purple chroma is brilliantly on display in the glass. An alluring fragrance of bright floral notes, violet juxtaposed with intriguing mountain characteristics. The entry is big, dark, and brooding with concentrated berry flavors, black cherry, mocha, and delightful earthy, brambly notes. Soft and lush, the tannins are sublime which offsets a pleasing mineral finish.Ē

WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "White pepper, violet, plum, blackberry, vanilla bean, nutmeg, black tea and espresso notes mingle effortlessly, lingering on the finish. Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache. Drink now through 2030."

Please note: Machete is bottled with 12 different lables....yes, 12. So the bottle you receive may not be the bottle in the picture.

With The Prisoner chapter of winemaking behind him, orin Swift feels as if a natural progression has been made and an evolution has occurred. Orin Swift's ongoing pursuit of choice vineyards throughout California resulted in some extraordinary Grenache, along with exquisite Petit Sirah, and Syrah that was assembled together into an artful collage both in and outside of the bottle.

A blend of Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah. An alluring inky--Ā]purple achievement, the 2014 Abstract is replete with a vivid nose of red and black stone fruits, candied cherry, cassis, dried floral notes, and sweet oak accents. Fleshy and spirited, the wine evolves into a very complex flavor profile of dark berry preserve, raspberry jam, Asian spices, mocha, chaparral, and a hint of crushed rock minerality. An underlying acidity leads to a graceful and fine tannin chain that is seemingly endless.
