over the wine was adjusted in duration and frequency, depending on taste and yeast activity (one to three times per day). The ferments were pressed off between one and four brix and then returned to tank. Once dry, the wine was racked off lees and inoculated for malolactc fermentation. MLF was done in tank and barrel, and upon completion, racked into barrel for 20 months. Complex plum and boysenberry aromas combine with rich cassis notes and hints of pine and earth. The cold Yorkville nights preserved the wine's acidity and helped maintain the balance of elegance and alcohol that makes this wine so food-friendly. Twenty months' aging in French and American oak has smooted the palate and added a layer of vanilla to the long, concentrated finish.

with a variety of food! Winemaker Gary Brookman combines old world techniques with modern technology so the wines reflect the unique characteristics of the individual vineyard, or terroir.

Sourced from a low-yielding vineyard in Madera, the wine is aromatically complex with citrus and honeysuckle notes on the noseand a plush feel on the palate. Intense and vibrant, with tropical fruit and apricots, this richly balanced wine is a show stopper, and a great alternative for those who love a full-bodied Chardonnay! We’re always amazed by Miner’s across-the-board quality. This is frankly an exceptional Viognier. Aromatically complex withcitrus and honeysuckle on the nose and a satiny, fleshy feel on the palate. Vibrant flavors of tropical fruit and exotic flowers characterize this ever-so-alluringly white wine. Balanced by just the right amount of acidity, pair it with crab cakes, sushi or even stir-fry and you’ll be a believer.

to warm, sunny days and cool nights, and soils rich in sand and calcareous material. This results in a classic, cool-climate Syrah that is refreshing, rather than heavy or cloying. Murray added 5% Viognier to this vintage in hommage of his old Roasted Slope Syrah. The aromas and flavors lean toward bright red fruits...cherries, raspberries, currants, and cranberries, with just a touch of a floral/violet note (from the Viognier) with a spicy note dominated by fresh black pepper and a dose of sweet French oak. This wine is quite quaffable now, but you will be rewarded if you wait 2-10 years to drink this one.

the creation of the “Prisoner,” Dave’s popularity among wine connoisseurs exploded! Well, Dave has done it again, folks; the wine is absolutely stunning!

Petite Sirah may be winemaker Dave Phinney’s favorite grape varietal and wine. He has been growing and making it since the 2000 vintage. Massive and powerful with intense color and structure, a limited release Petite Sirah blend called “Machete” was launched in 2009. Declassified in 2010 and 2011, it has been reintroduced with new packaging for the highly praised 2012 vintage. The label concept has been two years in the making, and is decidedly unique in its various formats.

A blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Grenache, in the glass, deep, dark bluish-red hues can be seen with a band of ruby on the rim. Uplifted aromatics of ripe blackberries, mulled raspberries, acacia flowers, toasty oak, and herbal notes hit the nose in a pronounced way. Offering up robust flavors during the approach, the mid palate is exposed to an unadulterated array of crushed berries, dark chocolate, black fruits, and a tinge of creamy espresso. Finishing with principle, the glossy tannins are in alignment for immediate enjoyment or some time in the cellar too.

PLEASE NOTE: Machete is bottled with 12 different labels...yes, 12. So the bottle you receive may not be the bottle in the picture.

"The dark, black fruit from the Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petite Sirah play the leading role in this five varietal heritage blend. Red fruit elements emanate from the Grenache, while the Mourvedre lends an inky, earthy impression and weight to the palate. This wine is complex, concentrated, and well-structured. It erupts with endless plum, blackberry, and currant as well as anise, licorice, black pepper, and other savory notes. The acid and tannins are well-managed, balanced, and a perfect match for this ripe and generous Paso Robles red wine."
