SHAFER 10 CS ONE-FIVE
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "Shafer doesn’t miss a beat. After more than a month of intense tastings of Napa Valley wines in 2012, Shafer was a clear stand out for their consistency across the board. The Hillside Select Cabernet remains the flagship, but readers will also find plenty of equally compelling and delicious wines in this range.....Mocha, tar, spices and tobacco all flow from the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five. A rich, intense wine, the 2010 impresses for its depth and sheer power. This is far from an easygoing Cabernet. I imagine the 2010 might still be going strong at age 20. The cold, late season yielded an utterly magnificent Cabernet that will challenge the top labels of many other properties. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."We will happily quote Robert Parker, Jr. on this one. We have to agree when he says, “Shafer Vineyards, one of the most impeccably run wineries in the world, is a wonderful family operation that deserves all the success they have earned.” The first Shafer Cabernet became a benchmark, when it took first place at an international blind tasting held in Germany, where it outranked such wines as Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, and Chateau Palmer. Since that time, Doug Shafer, John Shafer, and Elias Fernandez have not rested on their laurels, but have continued their passion for excellence in grape growing and winemaking.
Shafer’s One-Point-Five bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon has become one of the “blue chip” wines of the Napa Valley. Year-in and year-out, this is sought after for its combination of rich, vibrant fruit and structure. The 2010 vintage is a short one, where quality is high, but yields are low. What does this mean?...it means get it while you can!
