SCHLOSS LIESER 2013 RIESLING KABINET, MOSEL

THE WINE ADVOCATE - 90 POINTS
The 8% alcohol plus 55 grams per liter residual sugar 2013 Schloss Lieser Riesling Kabinett is a very quaffable Riesling: light and delicately racy, lovely piquant and salty as well as juicy but quite pure and stimulating in the finish which is almost drying.

Schloss Lieser has a good market for botrytis wines, so 2013 was finally a good year for Thomas Haag, although hail in August, sunburn and heavy rainfalls in autumn reduced the yields significantly. Dry wines were rare but good in their lean, racy and salty-mineral style. Haag harvested all predicates up to Beerenauslese, but it was a vintage with rigorous selections.

----------------------------
Thomas Haag, the owner/winemaker, has a quiet intensity about him, much like his wines. He doesn’t bow to any popular wine making style; he makes wines his way and in a unique, terroir-driven style. Along with Tim Frohlich of Schafer-Frohlich, Thomas Haag is a rock star in the German Riesling scene. The winery is finally taking its rightful spot atop the Mount Rushmore of great German Riesling producers.

An exuberantly fruity style, with a minerally aroma leading to succulent peach, apricot and ripe pear flavors that feature fat notes of honey cream and spice. All of this is backed up by fantastic acidity so even with the sweetness, it is incredibly refreshing.
